    Probably the best rev 4 demo I've heard so far. So musical in many ways, instrument wise and played by a very talented musician. Hats off Jim!

      Yeah, and a lot of this can be attributed to the dual layering with slight variation in the vintage tolerances. Kudos to the author for taking the time to do this.

    Amazing demo. Will all of these patches sound the same on a prophet 5?

    • @synthuniverse
      @synthuniverse  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks for the feedback! Yes all of these patches will sound the same - only with 5 note polyphony of course. Just bear in mind that any patches that use unison (such as Octave release) will be monophonic on the P5, as it doesn't have the polyphonic unison. Hope that helps and be sure to check out the sound bank videos linked in description if you're interested.

      Thanks for sharing! Yes he is probably already working on this. I still have questions though over the quality of the components and long-term durability of his synths - as well as the core sound. Although the Prophet is expensive, it's very well made and feels like it will last a lifetime. Worth saving up for in my view.

      @@xntricity6446 many thanks for the feedback! I imagine the Prophet 16 will tempt many people, but I doubt they will reproduce the magic of the P5. The envelopes, filters and even the Vintage knob are what give it something special. Good luck saving up (that's what I had to do to get my P10) I'm sure it will be worth it. • @synthuniverse
      @synthuniverse  Před měsícem

      Thanks for the feedback! I wasn't in manual mode so the knob positions in the video don't correspond with the sound settings - that's why it sounded different. All the sounds are available as part of my Prophet Sound bank - link in description, thanks

    I have a novation summit. Should i get the prophet 10 module and control it with that or do you recommend buying the prophet with the keybed?

    • @synthuniverse
      @synthuniverse  Před 4 měsíci +3

      I guess it comes down to space and money. if you have both then I would buy the keyboard version - it's a thing of beauty and well constructed with a nice keybed. But to save space and money I would buy the module to get the same sounds. Another consideration, is that with the P5/10 keyboard version, you don't get any additional performance controls (ribbon or buttons), just pitch and mod wheels, so you could use your Summit fine to control the module.

    • @synthkatt
      @synthkatt Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@synthkattI have both prophet 5 and Novation summit and keybed on both is superb. Weigh up your options, do you want to physically play both at once or Sequence primarily. I do a mix of both so opted for keybed. Of course getting the P10 keyboard version is pricey as hell.

    have you ever compared the Prophet 5 to Repro-5? Would be interested to see what you think!

    • @synthuniverse
      @synthuniverse  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for your question! No I haven't - but to be honest, I use analog synths not just because of their sound, but because of the musical inspiration I get when interacting with them. Personally I don't find software synths inspiring to use - even when they sound good.

    • @RayyMusik
      @RayyMusik Před 2 měsíci

      I had used Repro-5 for years until I decided to get the real thing. Repro-5 sounds really good and is a bit more versatile, but *nothing* compares to the basic sound of a Prophet-5/10. It sounds like it looks: a bit archaic but also natural. You seem to literally hear all that wood.

    • @joshtackett
      @joshtackett Před 2 měsíci +1

    This sounds amazing! Which do you like best between the Prophet and the Hydra? I write film music and am looking for an amazing Poly

    • @synthuniverse
      @synthuniverse  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Thanks for the feedback. The Prophet and Hydra are of course very different beasts. For sheer breadth of sound design the Hydra is best as it can do V/A, FM, and wavetable with modular synthesis levels of modulation. The Prophet has a more limited palette, but the analog quality and character of its sounds are arguably unrivalled and when layered and used with external FX it can still create amazing soundscapes - it just takes more effort. Good luck with your search

    • @synthuniverse
      @synthuniverse  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Later in the video and in the description I summarise how I do it. If you use a DAW then you can run the Prophet through a stereo reverb or other stereo plugin which will convert mono to stereo. But for recording I would always use layering and panning separate tracks as it sounds much richer. Good luck with it!
