I think that Hollywood should stop putting out the sequels, prequels and reboots and give young moviegoers what we experienced and release the classics. Film historians unanimously cite the 1930s and 1970s as the best decades for American cinema. I'm not a Quentin Tarantino fan, but I agree with him that the 80s were a mediocre decade for film, but movies today make the 80s look great. But I think that even films like Ghostbusters (1984), Predator, Indiana Jones trilogy, The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Jaws, Rocky, The Wizzrd of Oz and other classic films would be good for Hollywood. It certainly worked for them during the pandemic when drive-in theaters were making a comeback.
Here's the catch: the execs will fly off into the sunset on their golden gliders the size of a commercial jet. What we're left with is fond memories of times when movies could be manifests and art at the same time, and the junk we're being served where it's neither manifests nor art anymore. Oh well, I welcome our new culture overlords from Asia. At least their stuff is still fun to watch.
Never in my 57 years have I seen Hollywood so creatively bankrupt. In the (late 70s)80s, all these "modern franchises" were original ideas - Terminator, Star Wars, Predator, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Rocky etc. These days it's all remakes, reboots, sequels, prequels blah, blah. They have ZERO ideas.
I'm convinced that good ideas are still out there, it's just that Hollywood isn't listening. Prioritizing the correct ideology has suffocated creativity among Hollywood's current elites and those who pander to them.
The irony is there is a mountain of material out there that would make for great shows and movies, all the novels and short stories that don't have major publishers and go largely unread but are better than any Hollywood script.
There is some incredible Star Wars and Alien fan-fiction out there. If these were filmed they would earn a fortune, but we will never see this happen because Hollywood execs think they know best.
'Their' business model is now: rewrite every franchise with women replacing white men, queers replacing white men men, gays replacing white men, transsexuals replacing white women, and finally replacing white women and white men by every other race or gender or lifeform...That's a lot of ideas! - Sarcasm off.
Hollywood is too narcissistic to ever have regrets about or admit guilt for anything it does. Don't hold your breath. Film studios will go down in flaming bankruptcy and still be patting themselves on the back for their trash productions and blaming the audience for their demise.
Hell yeah! I used to go to the dollar cinema once a week to see the movies either again if they were good enough, or just to catch something I missed. Even if it was still a buck, there's no way I'd waste my time on this drivel they keep churning out.
I remember having to choose between Titanic, Forrest Gump and Amistad one weekend. All good choices but I only had 5$. College. We went nearly every weekend when we got married but never ever now
Plus live action Transformers but you're totally correct. Unbelievable how they've squandered their cash cows for beef flanks when they had decades of filet mignon in front of them!
I love Transformers so much yet I couldn't even finish watching the latest movie. Dropped it like 20 min in. 🧍♀️. All I care about is Avatar right now@@carlb5558
Hollywood and Disney have destroyed themselves and there's no one left to hold a funeral. I have been in fandom, actively doing conventions and such, since 1979. I owned a comic shop, had dinner with Anthony Daniels (C3PO) and sat with Jimmy Doohan (Scotty) in a hotel hallway at 3:00a.m. and talked heart issues after his heart attack. I love Ryan Reynold and was looking forward to the third Deadpool movie, even though #2 wasn't really up to par. But, when the Marvel show runners told us that the fans needed to shut up and go away (ie: give us your money but don't say anything about the way we run things), that tore it for me. I'm tired of being lectured by people 20-40 years younger than me who haven't got a clue what fandom is. Don't tell me what to like, who to like, or who to vote for. Do your job, make movies that people love, and just do the other stuff in your own circle. This granny is over this guano and movies aren't even on my radar anymore. I'm done.
Godspeed Mam. I am forever grateful for my Parents introducing me to old Trek when I was growing up in the mid 2000s. Waking up extra early on a school day just to cram in an episode of TNG while eating breakfast. Its hard, but I've learned to not be sad the era of legendary franchises is over, but to be happy they happened.
I stopped going to the movies after the first Star Wars sequel. Rey was cast and written so badly I gave up hope for movies ever having the same effect on me (and the theater audience) as they did when movies like Aliens and Cocoon were on the screen. But after watching one beloved franchise IP after another gutted and burned in the worst possible ways I came to the conclusion that it's being done on purpose. Hollywood execs may not always be the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they've never been so oblivious to the audience that they'd allow the same mistake twice, let alone a dozen times. This is either the purposeful crashing of the entertainment industry to clean out a system overrun with degenerate predators, or the final triumph of Cultural Marxism. I believe it's the former, which would explain the high number of Hollywood mansion sales and lack of A List actors at award shows. Which, although painful to see, will lead to better days ahead for everyone involved.
@@scifiwriter98I just hope you're right. I was just wondering what the motive could possibly be for Hollywood to continually cut its own throat. You could be on to something.

@@Wolffman109 Not going to happen. "Woke" is intrinsically a post-modernist ideology, which should more accurately be called "anti enlightenment," because it was founded in direct opposition to values that rose to prominence during that era, like individualism, logic, evidence-based reasoning, natural law, and objectivism. Post modernism is militant solipsism, and therefore, any and all precepts that stem from it can not and will not EVER work, because they are antithetical to reality itself.
Ultimately I think Disney tried to quietly pivot to a News/Politics Entertainment brand after watching all the actual news orgs sell out and trash slingers like Fox make billions selling outrage. This is why every single franchise they own mutated into controversial pandering instead of storytelling. But it blew up in their face, as it turns out most real people hate this shit.
As the expression goes "go woke, go broke". The last two years of movies has been brutal and the fact that woke Hollywood wants to bash the paying customer should serve them right to be losing money and going broke.
Well the point is, they don't care. They're ideologues. It's like it a Tiger tried to kill your kid, so you knocked it out with a hammer. It's not gonna wake up and learn it's lesson. They don't change their stripes 👍🏻
I wish the fans would change, and admit *they* are the problem. The only reason Hollywood still make Ghostbusters 7, Karate Kid 8.5, Star Wars 13, is because people still pay to see it, including the majority of Nerdrotic subscribers. The "hated" Disney Star Wars alone did well over 4 bi.
You should've done that before hollywoke went batshit crazy. What you're claiming you're doing now with your spare time seems a 1000 times healthier, more productive and educating than watching movies (even the good ones).
As a filmmaker and story teller. I had the absolutely honor to grow up in the late 80’s early 90’s and be influenced by giants. What people don’t talk about is how the independent film budgets from 2-15 million got absolutely annihilated from Covid regulations that accounted for almost half their budget. Take in the fact financiers are taking their cue from the industry’s corporate overlords and well you get almost destruction of that tier. So there is now a huge hole where I hypothesize we are about to see is our equivalent to the 70’s era/Scorsese. This tier will be incredibly crucial for the larger scope of the industry The age of the independent/decentralized filmmaker is upon us. The battle is here. We get to set the tempo!
It would help, but the creative bankruptcy wouldn't just "go away." It would need to be rebuilt. This is a 25 year decline, at least. They would need a serious rebuilding process, one that would probably take decades. And considering they can't get big money without the DEI and ESG nonsense (since it's people like Larry Fink at Blackrock pushing it), they would be faced with this massive rebuilding absent both creativity and money.
From the time a movie is planned to release can take years. Even if they didn't approve another woke mess, you'd still have 2 years of crap that is already on the works. 😊
I don't even remember the last time I went to see a movie in theatres. It has to have been over a decade ago. I honestly find it weird that anyone still cares, and have for a while.
The real question is, "Does anyone even care (about Hollywood) anymore?" Today, I went to the grocery store and dropped $60 on what amounts to a couple of meals (and I'm single). The other day, I had to put $50 of gas in my not-huge car. At the beginning of the month, I had to drop off my rent check. I'm not dropping $20 to go to the movies for myself...good, bad, or the current ugly. They aren't making the movies I want to see, anyways. I'm certainly not wasting money on "Paramount+" or "Disney+" or "Netflix" or any of the other (so-called) "Premium" streaming services. I really could care less at the current moment about the s*** that Hollywood is making. It's obvious that "it's not made for 'me'" and that they don't really care, either. I watch your channel, Gary, because I like YOU. But I haven't been in a theatre since...2020?...and I have no plans on going back to one any time in the near future. As far as I'm concerned, it's far too late for "Hollywood" to change course...and they're not going to anyways.
You nailed it! The little bit of disposable income available to me is NOT going to the Hollywood weirdos and the junk they're churning out, that's for sure.
I love your comment! This is what it's like for normal people. They don't have any reason to consume modern pop culture. Your comment should be pinned!
I find it terribly hilarious that they’re targeting a younger audience that keeps saying how they can’t afford anything and have no disposable income while removing the audience that does have spare cash.
Or like in comic books and games, no one who actually invests doesn't care about replacing characters and stories with woke independent women or men who want to be those women. I just find it funny the only reason they have to stop will be because they can't afford it anymore.
It's all part of the indoctrination of the masses, they don't give a HOOT what you think as long as you think like them. I'm in the same boat laughing my head off.
Imagine paying a licence for an institution that hates their primary audience. Here in Australia the government uses our taxes to fund ABC and SBS. Both are very leftist and woke.
Couldn't disagree more guys... market forces mean algorithms choose what is produced and delivered. By default an algorithm can only look at what people already consume and can only ever therefore suggest some for of repetition. Subscription-only BBC will result in 86 episodes of Strictly, 250 cooking shows and 1oo soap opera episodes per week. No sport, no news, no original movies... yes the occasional original drama will make it to the screen but with 6-8 episodes max. There will be nothing that costs too much to make a financial return in 12 months or less and that's exactly BBC's point of differentiation. There is a demand for programming that requires an IQ higher than your shoe size to enjoy, trust me, and it would be a shame to lose it. 🙂
Unfortunately Disney stock is up 30% ytd, imo due to riding the broader market, darling Iger coming back but mostly to Peltz trying to take control...which now looks like it won't happen.
Except for that Woke Funding, pushed by companies like Blackrock and Vanguard. People voting with their dollars by not spending money to see "woke" movies is a good start, but if you turn around and invest with "woke" Blackrock or ESG funds, you are fighting on both sides.
Funny how women can make billionaires of the Kardashians and Taylor Swift but they don't bother with strong independent blue haired Mary Sue's. Same with WNBA. They still blame men tho for not giving away all their time and money watching these movies.
The thing is, there have long been strong, kick-ass female characters. In the 60's I loved watching Emma Peel in "The Avengers" (the SpyFi series, not the marvel one). Why would they need to re-cast James Bond as a woman when they had Giacinta "Jinx" Johnson (Hallie Berry's character in "Die Another Day"). That way they could release twice as many films, and I'd definitely want to see it (with the right performer that is). But it's more about destroying good properties rather than creating something new.
We don't need a sequel to twister 1: Bill Paxton carried that film you can't and shouldn't do it without him 2: The film is a one and done flick it never needed a sequel because its a dumb disaster movie about storm chasers They will just make a narrative about climate change
The problem to me is the concept of "movie franchise". Twister was a good film. No reason to make it into a franchise. Star Wars was a good trilogy. No reason to make it into a franchise. Terminator 1 was a good movie, 2 was a great movie. No reason to make it into a franchise. Once you franchise you stop making movies and start making money. And that - to me - kills the fun.
@@nikolajwinther5955 When do sequels become a franchise anyway? When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s it was a given that if a film was good and made money there would be a follow up at some point. Then a FINAL third film. It was always three. Then greed set in and it started with Rocky and Trek. Rocky 4, 5, 6 and so on....and it became an in joke and was highlighted in Back to the Future 2 when Marty is scared by the CGI shark coming out of the poster for Jaws 14 or whatever it was....Today though you have a Hollywood so out of ideas they are going back and looking at successful solo films and giving them sequels decades later. And bringing back films like Terminator and Indy when they were concluded in three film arcs years ago...
Based on what happened during the Disney board meeting, Hollywood has no intention on changing their ways. Just leave entertainment to content creators and independent studios.
B movies are the way to go. Just like the greats began with small budget movies, this could the time for great movie makers to cut their teeth on small budget film with the mantra 'reach for the stars!'
Yup. Like many people, I already spend more time watching output from content creators (like Gary) than actual TV shows or movies, and advances in photo-realistic AI are only going to make the situation worse for the big studios.
When I was 13 I had a paper route in my small town. Saturday I'd bus to the newspaper building and pay for the week's papers, then take my profits and go watch the Saturday matinee, play video games and come home broke. I saw Tron, Search for Spock, War Games, Empire Strikes Back and a lot of other great movies. Now I have significantly more disposable income and hardly ever want to go see a movie.
We need to scrap thhe word "reboot" and implement 'regurgitate.' Because that's what Hollywood is now... just a massive regurgitation of movies and stories that have already BEEN DIGESTED. And, of course, it's always way worse seeing your food the second time.
True. batman and robin hood usually the two that I think can survive reboots indefinitely some movies managed to get a second or third out that did well but few did it where it would actually be better back then some were fresh ideas, others were amalgamation of older movies or books so it was their first run on the silver screen so much new on the internet they could just option tons of creepy pasta or horror instead they went full tumblrina

@@MiniLemmy As someone from that generation, I don't think that's the problem. It's the corporations that are void of creativity. Just money making machines trying to get as much as they can, even if it decreases its longevity. We can see this in the gaming industry as well. Indie games are growing thanks to their developers being creative (including Gen Z), yet bigger corporations are slowly losing customers. People that blame a generation don't understand that it's a combined effort. Each generation raises the next.

A personal anecdote: I happen to be white and have been married to a Latina of African descent for a about a decade and we have 3 kids. My wife joked with me the other day stating she never realized we are in an "interracial relationship" or given it much thought (nor I) until Hollywood and the woke agenda pointed this out to us. Well, we got a good laugh about it. Real and descent people in the real world interact on an individual basis, not a group basis.
Races is basically a made up construct used in Europe to justify wars, where they said that Germans are a race or French people are a race. So, the same white people made up races to justify killing the other people. Now Muricans make up races, like "Latino", which is basically mostly Spanish people :D Or they put all Black people into one "race"
I will never go to another modern day movie again. (Or Stream/buy one) They went too far, and now it's a principle thing for me. It's been tilted in the Woke favor for a long time. How many dumb, act like a little kid Dad characters, with the Mom being the smart, the responsible, the condescending, the always gets her way, the only adult, characters have there been? All of them? How many 98 lb girls with perfect make up, in heels and Opera Dresses, have kicked Soldiers, Mercenaries, Outlaw Biker gangs asses without breaking a sweat, while the supposed hero male has barely held his own, against the same? Now we are conditioned to put up with that crap and think it's "good" compared to the obscene new stuff they pushed to, and hit the wall. NOPE. No more.
Nor I. I don't even stream anything made after about 2005. Meanwhile, I collect as much stuff from the 70s and 80s on physical media as possible before the studios try to edit out everything that doesn't conform to the message.
IMO the “degrade men to make women look better” thing is coming from the CCP. Look at the numbers in depression for the average Western (usually American, but not always) male. Might come in handy for an invasion.
Movie theaters need to rent old movies, charge reduced ticket prices to regain profitability, people like going out but will no longer pay premium prices for excrement
I'd pay to go see a re-release of older classics on the big screen, even it were for the third time like with Indiana Jones and Star Wars that have already had theatrical re-releases way back in the day. The big screen is a fun activity, but currently I just can't justify paying the premium price of a theater experience when most new releases are dog shit and whatever is left just seems so uninteresting. It's literally the flip-side of the gaming industry coin; the big industry "movers and shakers" are creatively bankrupt and rely on an already exhausted supply of customer goodwill and nostalgia to fuel their machine that doesn't produce anything new that's worthwhile - their whole bread and butter nowadays is to dig up the graves of the long dead and exploiting the deceased's loved ones with a macabre puppeteering display. Good God, what a state we're all in nowadays, huh?
TCM classics at Fathom events do that. They have studio Ghibli too. This year there's Blazing Saddles, White Christmas, and The Fifth Element - to name a few.

This tier will be incredibly crucial for the larger scope of the industry
The age of the independent/decentralized filmmaker is upon us.

Nope. Needs to go!
I don't even remember the last time I went to see a movie in theatres. It has to have been over a decade ago. I honestly find it weird that anyone still cares, and have for a while.
Let it burn.
Sound of Freedom last film I saw in theater.
I buy old, pre-2012, DVDs for $1.
The real question is, "Does anyone even care (about Hollywood) anymore?"
Today, I went to the grocery store and dropped $60 on what amounts to a couple of meals (and I'm single).

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a company in possession of massive wokeness, must be in want of even greater brokeness.

I cant believe they failed when they made all their action movies for women.
How could this have happened
Funny how women can make billionaires of the Kardashians and Taylor Swift but they don't bother with strong independent blue haired Mary Sue's.
Same with WNBA.
They still blame men tho for not giving away all their time and money watching these movies.
Must be men's fault.
Because nobody wants to watch action movies by whiny women. Not me.
not only actions movies its in everything horror,comedy,drama... lesbian stuff or lame assemble cast of 7 different ethnicity.

Star Wars was a good trilogy. No reason to make it into a franchise.
Terminator 1 was a good movie, 2 was a great movie. No reason to make it into a franchise.

I recently saw Princess Mononoke in cinema. The room was packed! Not half-empty like with new releases.

The loud 1% have turned into 20% over the course of the last 5 years.
And its only gonna get worse.
Cool it with the antisemitic remarks.
@@Jadty I literally have zero idea what part of my comment you though were offensive towards jewish people, but if you care to elaborate I am happy to remove it.
@@Blixthandthere woke. Can my "wife" eat them. She keeps complaining about human souls.
@@BlixthandI’m pretty sure he’s just quoting American Psycho. I’m not exactly sure how the joke pertains here, but he’s not being serious, just saying it ironically.
Loved the Costa Del Sol tune. Grats on 1million!
Holy crap, how did I not know about this channel before. This is gold.
As a Whovian, I just gotta say hearing that not only is Nucti Gatwa already leaving Dr Who after his second season but that the BBC may soon become a thing of the past....AHHHHHH it's like your first breath of fresh air after working 12 hours in a Human Cess pit, just amazing.
"If you don't like what you heard, thank you for listening this long."
Still the best sign off to date.
It is pretty clever
@@curtiskretzer8898 yeah, it's a "catch more flies with honey" deal.
The only thing better is that lowfi fairy fountain outro music @ 13:10.
great update, thanks.
Congrats on 1m! 🎉🎉
The hilarious thing being Bob is still in Full denial "everything's fine! Look Moana 2!" Mode 😂😂😂 dude is in a crumbling building and can't face reality
(This is after the investors/shareholder meeting)
A great and spacious building with no foundation upon the Earth. Yet when the land shakes, it will crumble all the same.
I know that moana 2 will fail at the box office.
Everything IS fine for him. Didn't he sell his stock in Disney? Dude has his money either way. People like that don't work because they have to. They either want to or have an agenda to push.
@@jonathanbaker4361This. Bob Iger gets hundreds of millions for ruining Disney, while facing no risk of his own in this. His career is anyway over, he will never get another gig as a CEO anywhere else. So yeah, for him it’s all about squeezing that lemon as hard as he can, while keeping the investors in the dark.
We are taking a stand and will not support any woke, racist dei... Movies it games. They can't exist without us and it's time for the entertainment industry to learn that the hard way💯💪🏿💪🏾💪🏼💪
Congratulations on the 1 million dude!
Damn. Alamo? I live in the Austin area and always enjoyed my viewings at Alamo. Luckily we have a Flix as well and their popcorn reigns supreme IMO.
I wonder if this will be the year when a single movie will *NOT* reach a billion dollars 🧐
there`s always clowns that will go to watch anything out of habit.
Deadpool
It'd be funny if the only thing that manages it is _Despicable Me 4_ (the sixth film in a series which was already tired by the second).
Dune definitely deserves to, everything else...ehhhh.
@@SuperVincent0000 Neither Deadpool movies broke $800M. Now that Disney owns Deadpool...
Congratulations on reaching 1 million subscribers! 🎉🎉🎉
let’s help Overlord DVD reach similar numbers
I really liked that you had Dragon Quest music playing in the back round at the start of the vid 👍
Aint no fucking way are they going to disgrace Gladiator with a second film
I would LOVE to know what Fairy Fountain version of the song Gary used for the outro this time. Sounded amazing!
Other countries can live without Hollywood. Merit matters in any job.
I don't want to start a comment war or anything but other countries aren't doing so well too. Europe is on the same path. Asian countries too except Japan.
@@n4ughty_knight. Your comment doesn’t make any sense.
@@n4ughty_knight As the economic downturn affects many more people, there'll be far fewer to stay complacent with the current state of Hollywood, or continue to fund it. Both the industry and the wider culture are in an endstate, approaching collapse.
It’s all part of a global plan. The WEF are winning
@@n4ughty_knightnah kid, everyone part of the "nato gang" (or all those other names and groups they give themselves but are exactly the same countries) is going to crumble. "3rd world countries" are going the ones ruling you now like how you did it to them.
