    Just tried this on my Columbia jacket that had FRESH sap on it after trimming my outdoor tree and I must say... AMAZING! And it took the dried sap off my hands as well! Yet to try it on dried set-in sap but I have a feeling it'll be just as great, thanks!

      It should work fine with the set-in sap. I've had it work with pants I put through the washer and dryer. It just might take some additional "elbow grease." Let me know how it goes!

      @@MyflagstaffhomeAZ When my husband showed me what had happened I was like oh no those were expensive clothes how am I going to get this out😯 I read that rubbing alcohol was the answer but like you said it evaporates so fast and I only had a little bit on had. Then I came across your video and hallelujah it worked. And with just a little squirt and barely any effort. We just got our backyard renovated so there's lots of sap coming out from the cedars. With this hack I'm not going to stress out anymore when my husband and kids come to me covered in sap. Thank you so much 💕

  • @fly4doe2
    @fly4doe2 Před 3 lety

    Thanks. Makes sense chemically. Pine tar / pine sap are wood bio-products and so is isopropyl alcohol...so presumably they should be soluble in the alcohol.. Kind of genius to slow the travel of the volatile liquid by using it in hand sanitizer form. This should work for common ink-pen stains too, especially if you don't have rubbing alcohol or cheap hairspray available. The ink base is isopropyl alcohol. I wouldn't try vodka, whiskey or tequila in place of wood alcohol...those are a different kind of alcohol.

    • @MyflagstaffhomeAZ
      @MyflagstaffhomeAZ  Před 5 lety

      Hi Jay! Hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather we've been having in the northern part of the state! In answer to your question... I have tried using hand sanitizer on our composite deck and, yes, it does work. I had to use a toothbrush to scrub it off, but it did come off. I'm not sure how it would work on wood, though. I would try it on a spot that is not terribly noticeable. I'm thinking it might remove the stain, so you might need to touch up the discoloration. If you do try it, be sure to rinse it off really well so the alcohol and sunlight don't cause it to bleach out. Once again, try it in a place that won't be terribly noticeable for starters until you know what happens. Let me know how it goes! --Jennifer

    What about a dot of sap, how to remove sap from microfiber couch?

    • @MyflagstaffhomeAZ
      @MyflagstaffhomeAZ  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I've never tried this on microfiber or on an indoor couch. When I tried this on a patio cushion, I put hand sanitizer on the fabric and agitated it with a toothbrush until the sap was gone. Then I rinsed it with a hose and let it dry. It worked perfectly. I suppose you could try some version of this. Once the sap is out, you could really soak or dampen the area to get the alcohol out of the cushion. I would recommend that you try it first in an unnoticeable area on the back or underside of the couch first to see if it works. You certainly don't want to make it look worse than it already does, so proceed with caution.

      I got to thinking about your comment. You mentioned that rubbing alcohol didn't work. Did you try hand sanitizer? The alcohol in the sanitizer should remove the sap, but the gel it's in should keep it from evaporating so it has time to work. Let me know if you already tried that. The only time I've heard of it not working is when the fabric was nylon.

      Thanks for your response. I'm wondering about the nylon in the fabric. That might have something to do with it and, of course, the fact that the shorts had been washed and dried a lot over the years. Too bad, though. I wish it had worked on even a tough stain.
