Growing up, my friend had a paw-paw tree grove in his backyard. Some of those trees were 16 inches in diameter. There were times when the fruit fell from the trees that the bees would be swarming all around eating the paw-paws. Those trees were once very common in the area but experienced some sort of blight back in the 70s. Sad that my adult kids now have never seen or eaten a paw-paw fruit. Thanks for the memory recall. Fabulous garden!

Paw-paw trees play a vital role in my family's history. It was quite a shock when I found them growing in several spots in my NC yard! Haven't seen any here where I am now in Ohio, where they should be pretty prevalent.

Between human based climate change and nothing being done about it and also an extended El Nino this year & may stay for the next few years. It's gonna be difficult to grow things outside. You will have shorter growing seasons & erratic temperature changes. you're gonna need to use greenhouses wind tunnels, etc, because growing outside is gonna be near impossible in the next 15 to 20 years.
Little tip: when growing zuchinni, or winter squash or anything like those, when they flower, there are two flowers. Male and female. Take a q-tip or a paint brush and take the pollen off the MALE flowers, and put that pollen on the female flowers insides.
It is hot, hot, hot, here in Talladega Alabama. I've harvested out the last of my mustard, and Swiss Chard. I have a big patch of heat loving Ne w Zealand spinach thriving, and two Russian Scarlet kale-that I need to harvest. My herbs are thriving, and I have ten trays of basil in the dehydrator. I'm getting great production from my squash and cucumbers. I lost one vine, and am waiting for replacement seedlings to sprout. My first wave of tomato plants are flowering and setting fruit, and I am getting my first cherry tomatoes. The peppers in my raised bed, and GreenStalk tower are also flowering and setting fruit. The strawberry plant in my tower have slowed down with setting fruit, and are putting out runners. I only have a few open places left to fill. I am considering purchasing a Lansing Cherry tree next March, but need to find space for it first.

I did the straw bale gardening a few years back, and hated it. I did all my research, bought several books and followed the instructions to the letter. I didn't have a trellis like you (It would've made a difference). The bales won't support tomato cages, they're just too flimsy. Also, none of the books mentioned what is now termed as "smooshing" your bales. As the center of the bale breaks down into beautiful soil, air gaps form which stops all growth on the plant. You need to compress the bales as they decompose to prevent the air pockets from killing your plants. The smooshing could lower the level of your plants so I would account for the lowering of the plant when stringing it up (give them some slack). You can also insert potting mix or soil into the bale by making a hole and just shoving hands full of soil into the bale then pull the straw back together. I have a Paw paw patch which is taking over my yard. I planted three varieties shortly after the purchase of our house. It took eight years, eight, to finally start getting fruit. Now 25 years later I have more fruit and trees than I can handle. I love your gardens and plantings and I really enjoy watching and learning from you. Thank you for what you do.

Your garden looks great. I don’t know how you get it all done. Do you can your harvest? You have inspired me to become a more neat and organized gardener. I also love flower gardening. Its tough keeping both going in this drought here in the upper midwest. I only grow what we process as pantry staples like tomato, tomatillos, peppers, a few potatoes, leafy greens, garlic, onions, raspberries and finally this year blueberries and grapes. I learned I need to net the grapes with organza mesh bags bc the birds got them all when they got the size of my hands!! They were so tasty too. Blueberries look awesome this year so its time to get them netted! I just wish my fruit trees would give me something. Happy gardening!!

You have so many tomatoes! I really need to get on this string thing. I've had 2 big tomatoes with chewed up tops this week because squirrels or birds can stand on the cattle panel they're up against and have at them. Now the rest of them are bagged up in mesh!
I'm in Wilmington. Raspberries that grow well for me are fall gold, caroline, and heritage but I like geritage the least. Blackberries- Ponca and Vonn do best for me.
The ambrosia beetles got my fig trees this year. Apparently a lot us here in Louisiana were hit with them. I cut mine back to the ground and they're trucking it from the roots. Hopefully they'll make a full comeback and fruit beautifully next year. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
Terrible. Some locations need everything covered. Here the one wood chuck has multiplied. Tops of beet root, tender lettuce, chard, decapitated 2 Roma in pots waiting for transplanting and starting on Roma in the garden. THAT'S ENOUGH!!! Getting low voltage wire.

We live in Hawaii and grow avocado like a weed but I’ve noticed when some are doing bad when we add iron either by pounding a nail in it or sprinkling some rust they do pretty good, maybe checking your iron in your soil my help good luck and thank you for your Content!

Dig your garden. Finally subscribed after watching your videos for at least 4 years now I think. From 3600 ft up in the Trinity Cali Coastal range zone 7a to 8a. With 21 kinds of figs mostly in the greenhouse. The ones I brought inside didn't lose their leaves. I had 3 Violette de Bordeaux and 1 Brown Turkey survive 5 feet of snow last winter without die back. Lost about 10 fig trees though. Mostly Chicago H.
You had some barrels sitting between your trees that are black and thinking that's to warm up during the sunny days in the winter to retain heat next to the plants. Also you have a water collection system which looks interesting. If you have done videos on them please list those otherwise would love to know more
Your garden looks fantastic! I've been looking to see if astringent persimmons could be grown in North Carolina, so I was happy to see you had one. I grow the Super Sweet 100s cherry tomatoes and they have amazing flavor and very easy to grow. They will get heavy though so make sure they are supported well. Meyer lemons are wonderful and I am also glad to see you have one of those as well. BTW, Cara Cara oranges are my favorite. Super sweet always!!
Hi Anthony. I recommend you look into Hidden Rose/Mountain Rose Apples. They're similar to pink pearl in that they have red flesh but are often considered better for fresh eating. Pink Pearl is great too but really shines when used in baking.
Thank you for sharing a tour on your garden, I love watching. The lemon variety I got is the Eureka, I like them better than the Mayer. Try planting Papaya and Plum .Im a senior with a lot of medical problem, but I still do gardening because I love gardening.
Growing caramello this year also, the plants are super healthy and vigorous, but here in Waxhaw NC the aphids seem to favor them. Keeping them at bay with spinosad and mostly just blasting them off with water.

Always love a good garden tour! I ordered some Cascadia this year because it is supposed to be resistant to fusarium wilt. Even though I plant in containers, I have had issues with the wilt which must have contaminated the potting mix I normally use. I'm excited to see they could be a good producer when I plant them.

This one video is really about 8-10 hours, believe it or not. It condenses down to 35 mins, but these garden tours are tough because of how lengthy they are. The filming, editing, viewing and timestamping all this footage takes a very long time. It's why I do very few of them anymore. But I still like to do a spring garden tour, tomato tour and fig tour annually, since people really seem to enjoy them.

With regards to the brassicas you have in your garden, do you ever allow them to go to seed? If so, what is your method? Do you leave broccoli, cauliflower and cabbages on the plant (no harvesting) to encourage seed production? I would like to learn more about doing this on my own plants to save seed, or self seed in and around my garden for continuous brassica growth every year. Is this achievable do you think? 🤔
It is a challenge. It’s an 80-100 hr a week commitment. 40-50 hrs a week for the full-time job, 30-40 hrs a week for CZcams, 1-2 hrs a day for the garden. But nothing easy is worth doing 😅

Would love to hear if you figure out what’s going on with the DSJG as far as it being green when you cut back, but ultimately not growing back. I’m having the same issue here is central Texas with a number of my fig trees, DSJG being one of them. I suspect cold damage in sporadic places that is not seen (lower down trunk) & may be preventing adequate sap flow.. So frustrating 😢 On a good note, your yard n garden look absolutely amazing 👍🏼

I didn't know you could grow oranges and lemons in NC. I'll have to see if they're viable in 8a where I'm located in the middle of the state. These are 2 fruits I've always wanted but they aren't listed in the list of viable fruit trees on the NC State website. Is it because you're close to the coast or can they grow further inland?

Growing caramello this year also, the plants are super healthy and vigorous, but here in Waxhaw NC the aphids seem to favor them. Keeping them at bay with spinosad and mostly just blasting them off with water.

Always love a good garden tour! I ordered some Cascadia this year because it is supposed to be resistant to fusarium wilt. Even though I plant in containers, I have had issues with the wilt which must have contaminated the potting mix I normally use. I'm excited to see they could be a good producer when I plant them.

This one video is really about 8-10 hours, believe it or not. It condenses down to 35 mins, but these garden tours are tough because of how lengthy they are. The filming, editing, viewing and timestamping all this footage takes a very long time. It's why I do very few of them anymore. But I still like to do a spring garden tour, tomato tour and fig tour annually, since people really seem to enjoy them.

With regards to the brassicas you have in your garden, do you ever allow them to go to seed? If so, what is your method? Do you leave broccoli, cauliflower and cabbages on the plant (no harvesting) to encourage seed production?
I would like to learn more about doing this on my own plants to save seed, or self seed in and around my garden for continuous brassica growth every year. Is this achievable do you think? 🤔
Impressed that you can manage all that and still have a full time job.
It is a challenge. It’s an 80-100 hr a week commitment. 40-50 hrs a week for the full-time job, 30-40 hrs a week for CZcams, 1-2 hrs a day for the garden. But nothing easy is worth doing 😅

Anyhow, I had watched one of your Dwarf Tomato vids and decided to do that this year, 25 plants with 9 different ones. Starting to grow since our weather finally warmed up. I am also starting corn now in transplants and plant them where my Garlic is when I pull them up. I also have 2 Pepino plants so trying something new :) Also got a quince tree hope that works.

Would love to hear if you figure out what’s going on with the DSJG as far as it being green when you cut back, but ultimately not growing back. I’m having the same issue here is central Texas with a number of my fig trees, DSJG being one of them. I suspect cold damage in sporadic places that is not seen (lower down trunk) & may be preventing adequate sap flow.. So frustrating 😢

I didn't know you could grow oranges and lemons in NC. I'll have to see if they're viable in 8a where I'm located in the middle of the state. These are 2 fruits I've always wanted but they aren't listed in the list of viable fruit trees on the NC State website. Is it because you're close to the coast or can they grow further inland?
