This question came up in The Poke Office Discord recently - If I had $1000 to invest in Pokemon today what would you buy. This question about pokemon investing got me really excited, and I've been thinking about it ever since. I immediately knew that I needed to make a video about it!
So here it is... if I had $1000 to invest in Pokemon today, I'd buy this! Let's talk about some different options. Maybe Pokemon Evolving Skies... or maybe some of the later Sword and Shield era sets. But then again, we have Scarlet and Violet era sets that are really cheap right now..
Specialty sets always seem to do good... but Japanese Pokemon cards are a hot ticket item right now. What would you buy? Here's what I would buy if I had $1000 to invest in Pokemon Today!

I spent about £1000 last year and it got me CZ master set. As well as (Sealed)....Paldea Evolved ETB + 10, 3 pack blisters + Charizard Premium Collection + a few lunch boxes & some tins. Cant wait to see what it'll be worth in 5/10 years' time.
Love Celebrations long-term prospects too. Chilling Reign has tons of arts, Crown Zenith, Lost Origin, and Fusion Strike are still great values too.
We have already invested in celebrations. We finished the master set, promos and jumbo cards. Aside from that we have a sealed etb, the celebrations ultimate premium collection, the lunch box and the mini binder set. I would love to add the first partner pack bundle. Celebrations was the first set we mastered and we love it.
I’m investing heavily in Paradox Rift.
At $90 a box it’s a steal.
I have no doubt people will like it a lot better in the future when they start getting used to the new pokemon of S&V.
Plus the downside risk is low since boxes have never really gone below $70.

True but value wise out of boxes if you open the packs i think this is the worse investment. Out of 36 packs normally you are gonna probably get 100-150 in value from cards if you're lucky on average 9 out of 10x from these boxes, because if you dont pull 1 of 2 most expensive cards in the set then you lose money hard and technically if you dont pull the best card you essentially lost money on the set. Their is only 1 card worth 600.. lol and next is 225-250 so for $600 a box it is 100% a rip off. I would say best bet right now is get some paldean fates. You got the charzard & mew & gardevoir & iono & clive & then some of rare special holos like pickachu & charmander this set has a lot of nice cards and good value cards. I spent 500 on 120packs for the set, and i pulled the charzard & mew & 2x iono & clive a very good bang for your buck set
I just purchased an ES Booster Box for $460 + Tax. I know It's around marketprice but being a long term investment, its so good.

Collect what you like in Pokemon. Hold it long enough it all goes up.

2 ES booster boxes is probably a great move but I would only buy 1 plus 2 Lost Origin booster boxes. There is a deal for 12 Fusion Strike 3-pack blisters for $120 on ebay so I'd buy 2 of those as well. That's a quick thousand bucks spent with a little more diversification. Spending $1000 2 months ago would have been getting Chilling Reign booster boxes before they jumped. Probably still not a bad idea to get one now before they hit $200.
Now that 2021 is rotating out, I personally think CR FS (even AR and BrSt at this point) have better chance of spiking for higher % gains in the next 24 months
I’m personally really bullish on lost origin and the 151 UPCs. I know they’re super available right now but those promos are top tier. Also the Charizard UPC is still a great option even today.
I just spent like 3k on 151 japan booster boxes yesterday on top of the 2 or 3k I spent in 2023 and plan on buying more before they get too expensive. Not to mention all the money I put in to English 151 pc etbs and booster bundle/tin displays.

I have a massive sealed collection.
Evolving Skies and Japanese 151 booster boxes are the king and queen of the current investing moment. But there is one booster box that was not mentioned here that I think people need to focus on some more, and that is Brilliant Stars.
I would also debate whether to buy two 151 ETBs or one PC 151 ETB.
Also, it is good with these newer sets to consider keeping some of your powder dry. We will eventually see a set down the road that will bring us another Umbreon SAR and Gengar SAR. Those will be the sets one needs to be ready to get booster boxes of.
i’d definitely spread out my choices i think lost origin is a sleeper set for investment and would also buy some cz and last probably buy a booster box of paldea evolved some 151 and paldean fates
I would just dump it all in 151 English.
The fact is that that set will be top 5 sets of all time. English will always do better the Japanese in long run.
There has never been done with what they did with 151. It’s a phenomenon. And more then likely they will do a 251 and sow on. Will be super collectible in the future.
Japanese 151 booster boxes have the masterballs, which will always make that wanted. Single cards, english.
I'm thinking about picking up an Evolving Skies booster box. I just don't see it go down ever again.

I think it all depends on how long the person that asked is planning on keeping stock and if he is really planning on keeping it 5 years. I think ES will be a 2k box in 5-8 or so years. So at $400-$460 its a great buy. I just bought 3 for $1,230 shipped. If he's trying to make some money quicker, then yes I agree, Fusion Strike, CR are good ones. Me personally, I'm buying Evolving, Team up (up even at the $1,900 price), Unified Minds, Fusion Strike, Chilling Reign, Paldea Evolved and of course, a ton of Japanese 151 booster boxes.
I say get some brilliant stars booster boxes as well as any swsh sets with TG cards and some crown zenith. These art cards will hold up in the future for sure.
I agree with most of your ideas. Im wary of slabs and singles. They can be a great investment but its definitely more of a gamble. Also buying sealed cases gives you a better price but takes up a lot of the money. I think the big question unanswered is what the person's expectation is with his/her pokemon investments. I would forego evolving skies and try to get pokemon center etbs. Those increase in price as soon as it sells out. Also two or three booster boxes of each set for diversification. Love japanese specialty sets. Japanese 151 would be my choice even though prices have gone up. Enjoyed this video. Thanks.

My main goal personally is to have a little bit of every set since I started. So whenever a new set comes out, I buy enough to open and hold a bit of it as well.
That way, I’m never guessing - I will have some of the winners in stock
If you want the safest bet for price appreciation I'd say buy Sword and Shield BBs and Pokemon Center ETBs. Singles can appreciate but modern singles tend to depreciate for a time before going up. That said the likelihood of them going up is lesser than sealed product because sealed product is inflationary by nature simply as a result of scarcity, supply and demand.
I'm just starting my investment collection, looking to start over the next month or two with 2x Paldean Fates PC ETB, 2x Regular 151 ETBS, 1x Paldea Evolved Box, 1x Silver Tempest Box, 1x Chilling Reign
good thoughts and very nice opening! I had a similar thought to the 1k question. I think I would diversify sets with big chase cards. For example Brilliant Stars, Chilling Reign, LO, FS, Silver Tempest (maybe). If I had money left, then I would do an evolving skies. I think the time to double on those sets will be much shorter than evolving skies and I already missed the boat for getting evolving skies at a reasonable price. But there are so many strong sets available that are still extremely affordable

I would do something very similar to what you did. Evolving skies booster for sure. And then a little of this and that. Of what I feel is best to grow in value
Currently I would definitely grab some Japanese four 151 boxes and then 9 Shiney Treasures. Those are currently my top two favorite sets that I want to collect for now and the future.

Great video because it makes you think. I think I would focus my funds on chilling reign and Japanese 151. I think I would get 3 of each and just hold on to these sets for about 5-8 years. I think if you get great deals, the 1k will be enough.

I wish I can tell everyone all my personal investment strategy. But in the stock market. It's always foward thinking. Ill give you one example. 10 years from now when you look at Obsidian Flame set and all those possible insane looking charizard, imagine how u would feel. Or maybe you like more of all the pokemon like 151....... see where im going? In the end buy what u like. Worse case, you can have a breaking party.....🎉
I’d buy 18 divergent tins and get the equivalent to a booster box of evolving and astral and half of brilliant , and have a lot of change left

Great vid bro! I am gonna pivot to thoughtfully grabbing sealed products here and there to sit on as my main approach to 2024. Had a ton of good luck on pulls the past few months don’t wanna assume thats normal (most recent was demi-god bulbasaur line out of a magneton mini-tin loll)

When you say Astral Radiance is a sleeper set, how do you see it gaining popularity down the road (and hopefully increase in value) when this set was not popular to begin with?
To my knowledge, team up was not a popular set to begin with. Only recently did people realize how good it is.
Astral radiance has some excellent cards in the set in my opinion. Time will tell if it will gain popularity or not
The evo skies makes sense to me too but with the price of those master balls in jpn it would be likely that they become higher than most from EVO SKIES BUT i loved your list at the end

If I had $1000 I would buy 1x Fusion Strike booster box, 1x Chilling Reign booster box, 1x Lost Origin booster box, 1x Astral Radiance booster box for $500, I would then park $350 in a celebrations upc, with the last $150 I would buy a set of Pokemon Center exclusive Evolving Skies etb's

I would love to see $1,000 put into singles. Singles are a lot easier to manage bulk wise. Be nice to see both versions like with sealed. One with just a few big long term holds that grow slowly and one plan with potential for doubling
Sealed is king and a much lower risk.
@@VenomizedZilla sealed is also a lot of bulk, which adds to shipping and storage cost. I personally could not see having $10k of booster boxes sitting in a closet. Then in year two adding another $10k in more booster boxes.
Imagine going to a card show to work deals. “Hey I have $20k of booster boxes to sell/trade, they are in my U-Haul in the parking lot.”
Each person has to do what’s best for themselves, and singles call to me more than most sealed.

Ok so this is a little over 1000 cad, but I would go with sealed mini tin sets from 3 of my faves to collect, crown zenith, celebrations and 151. 151 pokemon centre etb and a booster box each of brilliant stars and lost origin. There is more i would add, but right now i just want to open stuff lol.

Depends on what you’re looking to do with it. I personally think the pc exclusive ones will be much more sought after

An equal buying of old and new products seems good to me especially 151 and hidden fates. Now instead of 1k investment for 5 years how about 100 investment for 5 years.

@MusicPairADeez I know it's so easy to overspend. Luckily I have 4 months left to pay with no intrest if paid back by then. Have some savings luckily to cover if need be. But don't think people realise how addictive it can be and easy to overspend 😢

I hope you have savings and a nice bag in your $401k before you spend $1,000 on a 5 year hold of Pokémon. Say you 5x within those 5 years and now it's 5 years later and you just sold your booster boxes and now you have $5,000 good job now what? You should have all your finances and retirement funds figured out before you spend hundreds/thousands on Pokémon products. If you just focus on bullshit investments with your small bag of capital then you are going to get nowhere. Learn some skills that will earn you more $ over buying Pokémon Products the opportunity cost of wasting your money is much greater when you are cash poor. Suggesting this guy buy any sets with his money is bad financial advise. I don't have $1k and I'm just getting back into Pokémon and maybe I'll spend $20-50 on some Pokémon product I like and may sit on with my entertainment budget but until I have my 401k maxed and a super healthy emergency saving I'm not too worried about making small few hundred dollar gains because with todays inflation you need about $4 million to retire and $1k worth of Pokémon is not going to get you anywhere close to that and I'm not worried about investing into pop-culture items until I am already close to that #.
