Jan Brady feels overshadowed by Marcia, so she sets out to accomplish something that Marcia has yet to do! #BradyBunch | Now streaming on Paramount+ Where to watch: para.mt/BradyBunch
Yes, as a child actress the show writers always gave her the sad, neurotic storylines and she did well. In Real life, it seems actress Eve Plumb wasn't happy with the constant underdog character BUT ALL The Kids played "archetypal" characters Very well.
One of my fave episodes--I grew up with them- I am three years younger than Cindy in real life and I am a middle child --- Jan and Peter were always my faves! Kim
They ramped up Jan's whole self image problem here; it was no longer merely unwanted freckles, buying a black wig, or having to invent a boyfriend ... and it became a recurring thing in seasons to come. Even in the final season she was insecure and doing the wrong thing (making so many campaign promises while running for office in school and then casually saying to a sibling that she'd never actually _fulfill_ them). "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" became a massive cult quote during the 80s and 90s--- before the word meme was a part of our everyday vocabulary --- I think it was the most known Brady Bunch expression, beating Bobby's iconic "Mom always said Don't play ball in the house" and Peter's famous Humphrey Bogart line "Pawk chaps ... and appa soz".
"....I think it was the most known Brady Bunch expression, beating Bobby's iconic "Mom always said Don't play ball in the house", and Peter's "Pawk chaps and appa soz"....." ...ummmm, Honey... does, *"...OH, MY NOSE!.."* ...ring any bells!?? ..ha-HAAA!!
@@PhilAlumb Right. Too bad the writers didn't choose a different tactic. I liked the early episode where Jan got a locket in the mail from an anonymous friend. Then in the end we learn it was Alice, doing something special because she too had also been a middle sibling.
In this case, Jan's teacher unwittingly sparked this entire episode to play out as it did--- with Jan dumping the awards in the closet out of frustration and then becoming understandably defensive when confronted. Being made to feel inadequate when compared to Marcia was bound to cause Jan to eventually (and maybe even a tiny bit irrationally ) vent her irritation.
@@PhilAlumb .... I'm pretty certain you yourself did something even mildly irrational out of frustration, irritation or annoyance, particularly around Jan's age---we all do. Besides, the awards weren't damaged, just treated disrespectfully, however, such an overreaction should never be condoned... and wasn't by the parents
I saw an edited scene from this episode where Jan rigged an explosive on Marcia’s type rider under the key “B” for boom. But at the last minute Tigger comes racing in and throws himself over the typewriter and saves Marcia! Well, that what happened to Tiger. The Humane Society sued Swartz and Swartz was forced to watch an endless loop of Gilligan’s Island strapped to a dentist chair. True story.🙏🏿
@johnnelson3665 I am sorry miss. I didnt mean to hurt you so bad emotionly that you had to make those accusations without knowing the facts. I didn't realize you were such a sensitive lady.
I remember reading once that Eve Plumb's favorite lunch from the studio commissary was baked beans. She'd eat them by the ton and enjoy letting nature take its course around her fellow cast members.
@@PhilAlumb Apparently, everyone thought it was funny to a point, except Maureen McCormick who didn't find it funny at all, so in a way I guess Jan got her revenge on Marcia.
*SOCK IT TO HER, JAN!* (0:18) ...this, is the CLASSIC moment that moved Jan to the forefront of the Brady Kids.... the Movies, the memes, the "..Sure, Jan.." GIF's, the Pop culture movement of the 70's / 80's, ALL revolved around Jan's ONE neurotic, insecure 'moment' about "...Marcia, Marcia, Marcia..." (1:22), that we're STILL talking about, DECADES later ....I guess Jan got that last laugh on Marcia, hmm!? (3:07)
They should've done an alternate version when they say to Jan, "Well, Jan, Marsha is just better than you, and that's something you have to learn how to live with."
No one is any better than anyone else, we are ALL created in GODS image !! It’s all vanity what you’re saying. It’s NOT a competition, we are all individuals and are not in anyone else’s shadow, only the pressure that one puts on their own self.
@@Stephen10528...Yes, she felt Maureen's personality was more showy & Outgoing and, then, the Obvious Beauty. Maureen is Charismatic and Honest and she's genuine a sweet sensitive person in Real life.
Maybe I have too much time on my hands but why did Carol's girls change their last name to Brady when they already had a last name even though their dad died? I don't get it.
@@PhilAlumb .... OMG, stop acting like Jan committed some heinous crime. At worst, she was guilty of a childishly impulsive Brady Bunch reaction----not an unconscionable act of retaliation rivalling something straight out of the Sopranos.
Jan was always jealous of Marcia; Marcia was a risk taker since the beginning of the Brady family. Marcia took a major risk breaking the rules to win the "Father Of The Year " award without having any fear of the consequences for risking getting injured by mailing the letter. Successful people are risk takers like Marcia was one that became popular to many throughout.
The most iconic line from the show.
And then, someone was smart enough to turn it into a Drag Name
Pork chops and Applesauce is 2nd
Sure Jan 🙄
Mike's ability to ignore yapping teens is prodigious.
Eve is a fine actress.

Not good as Maureen McCormick. 🤣
I think Bobby was the best actor
Jan was always my favourite
Jan and Peter were the best, imo.
Best line: "Oh, Hi" (0:49)
Eve Plumb was the best actor of the kids.
😆
She was a budding GODDESS, you mean!
Actress?
Marcia Marcia Marcia!
It would have been hilarious if Marcia said "Jan Jan Jan!"
@@steveboone1498... Marcia couldn't be bothered.
As a middle child and my older brother being 3.5 years older than me. I lived this.
1:06 Mike don't be silly. Jan has no awards.
Jan got the victim award.🥇
I know how jan feels bc i. A middle sister of two sisters as well!.. i understand and empathize with her l.....😊❤..... Mary M
Me too. Team Jan!

@@RBS_ What an oversight on my part! Dammit. Thanks for reminding me of that one. I love "Oh, my nose!" a lot.

The episode scripts made Jan a neurotic, chronically unhappy character. It was.... over-kill.

Marcia is a blue ribbon. Jan is more of a participation trophy.
Yes! 😍
Did she win it for raising a prize hog?
And yet Jan is way more successful than you.

Jan has such pretty hair
This is a popular scene
Jan was..neurotic.
That part was classic. Marsha got her nose broken that made her famous. You got a love Hollywood.

Jan should have tried to be the school artist in charge of posters after seeing that drawing of a pom-pom girl.
