Yamaha makes great saxophones. This is even a semi pro. A 62 or a Custom gives you even more quality, resonance, proyection and intonation.

Mark VI ;-) Definitely, especially the lowest notes and the highest. My Mark VII tenor had been stolen and I was very sad, but after having bought a Mark VI I wasn' t sad at all any more...
All Selmer sax are diferent , are hand made , and there are good mark 6 and mark 7 , not so good mark 6 and mark 7 ,

Os Marks dispensam comentarios. O que me surpreendeu foi o som do 32, isto porque tenho um muito conservado, que coloquei um tudel 62 da Yamaha e o som ficou top. Nao tenho a tecnica que voce tem, alias passo longe, mas meu som ta chegando... estou feliz.... tenho tambem um custon 875, e olha que o 32 com o tudel 62 ficou show. Uso uma Meyer 7. Vi que to bem de instrumentos, quem sabe um dia chego um selmer desses. Belo som, parabens pela demonstracao que serve para estimular os que estao vindo atras. Abs.

Sorry mate, but that is not a Yamaha Yas 32, by looking at the picture it looks like a 62, the 32 is not bell engraved and the key guards do not have screw down felt bumps. But let me just say that you sound great though. thanks
So...isn’t this a tacit admission that parity exists between pro Selmers and student model Yamahas? At lower volumes the student model Yamaha has timbre similar to an alto clarinet. The altissimo seems more stable on the Yamaha and it also sounds more in tune in the upper end of the high register and the lower end of the low register. Pushing against the resistance at volume produces a brighter edge on the Yamaha, to be expected. As a solo instrument in a pop/smooth jazz/rock/funk setting the Yamaha STUDENT model outperforms the PRO Selmer models. To get the best of both worlds just go ahead and get the true hybrid - Ishimori Woodstone. That’s what I did.

Yamaha 32 is not a Student Saxofone, its a good intermediate Sax, i have a tenor from 1990 and its a very good sax, also have a Tenor Mark 7 and its great too, a litle more projection sound , best metal quality, and more timbre .
@@ruicalcada1664 Sorry, intermediate. I am not really sure how much sonic difference there really is between the various lower level saxes (those models which are not properly regarded as "Pro"). In all honesty, the Pro models - 62, 82Z, 875EX and EXII are relatively close sonically. Most of the sound is the player, after that the mouthpiece/ligature/reed combo has the next greatest impact. The neck after that. Once you hit the horn, the sonic differences diminish. In general, the farther you move away from the larynx and embouchure, the less impact on sound you have. This is why a great player is equally identifiable on a "cheap" sax vs. a top of the line professional sax. Truth be told, older Selmer Mk VIs are very inconsistent with intonation. The newer horns are more consistent top to bottom and often times have improved keywork and functionality. The metallurgy, on the other hand, is felt more by the player than it is heard by the listener. This is especially true once recording effects are applied. Unless one is wealthy or is playing for an income, it makes more sense to focus on finding a good mouthpiece/ligature/reed setup than it does stepping into a $5,000 sax. Just my .02 of course.

Yas 32 has no deep sound, probably because it’s an entry level. Mark VI and Mark VII have more volume and a strong projection.

Would like to see the Yamaha pro horns up against the Selmers. The best comparisons would include the Yamaha YAS-82Zii Custom 82Zii and the Yamaha 875EXII
Or even the 62 model 4 With a V1 neck.

All great sax! I still prefer the VI, because of the harmonics and sound. VII is excellent also. I had de Custom EX and loved it, really easy to play, but not the deep and rich sound as the VI. Greetings form Mexico!

o yamaha 32 é um pouco mais brilhante, tenho um Yts 32 dos anos 90 e é super afinado, mas não tem tanta projeccão, nem timbre do que o meu Tenor Mark 7 de 1980, o yamaha não tem graves tão profundos, embora seja um bom saxofone, chaves mais suaves e macias, no entanto não têm tanta ressonancia no metal . .como o mark 7 .

Gracias, Osvaldo. Yamaha siempre es recomendado. Si vas a comprar un 23 o 25 nuevo, quizás te convenga un 32 o 475 (ahora se llaman así) seminuevo, ya que es bastante mejor. De todas formas el 23 o 25 van muy bien. Saludos!

Un 23 bien calibrado es un saxo muy bueno, vi incluso profesionales tocando con ellos en festivales de jazz.los 25 no los conozco.
@@JavierCavacini , sim, concordo a 100 % , tenho 4 saxofones todos comprados usados, com excelente timbre, os sax mais recentes perdem mta qualidade de timbre, até os novissimos Yamahas e Selmer serie 3 são todos mto brilhantes , pelo menos para o meu gosto . .

El Mark6 me gusta un poco mas el sonido, pero en los bajos me gusta un pokito mas el Mark7 a pesar que me parece levemente desafinado en algunas partes. Y el Yam 32 me gusta mas en los agudos y en gral me parece muy afinado en todo el registro, aunque su sonido levemente mas brillante no me gusta tanto, pero no deja de ser excelente igual que los otros... yo tengo un yas 32F, pero toco tenor. Gracias x el video, muy bueno!, pero la prox sin micro x fa.

Los logo púrpura sí son más antiguos, y son más buscados porque tienen un sonido un tanto más oscuro y con más armonicos.
El 52 es el modelo intermedio (igual que el 32, solo que cambian de nombre porque el 32 se hizo para Europa y el 52 para Estados Unidos, pero es igual), y es un gran sax. Si lo encuentras en ese estado, y a buen precio, vale mucho la pena. Saludos!

I have a yas 32 as well but I don't seem to get the jazzy sound that I want like how you're playing. Im using a yamaha 4c since im a beginner. What would you suggest as a mouthpiece for a jazzy sound?
There are a lot. Beechler is great, also Barkley, Meyer, Claude Lakey, Vandoren, Guardala, Lebayle..

I have a YTS 62 Tenor, but the real problem is that don't have deep, pop music very nice but playing jazz with the time you need more deep tones
Yes, for Jazz, a old one, a King, a Selmer Mk 6 or Mk 7, a Conn 10 M . .
Try now the same with a YAS 62 of 1999 in state of 32. And you'll see.... For less price you'll get one of the best sax in the world.

I don't know why the Mark VII is hated so much. I sounds fine to me. I have a Mark VI tenor. A friend bought a Mark VII tenor in about 1976 and I had a blow on it. It felt fine. What's the problem? Man, Bird could pick up any old antique sax and he always sounded like Bird.
I have blown a Yamaha alto and a tenor (while trying a mouthpiece in a store) and they were great, too, but they are a copy of the Selmer. I would rather have the real thing.
I have a MK7 tenor and a MK6 tenor. The MK6 tenor is way better, not just for vibrant resonant tone that projects well and has great focus, but also for weight and feel of the horn. The table keys on the MK7 were place so far away, by mistake, according to a source I know. It is true that a well preserved at set up Mk7 plays fine, nothing wrong with it, although the tone is a little dead in comparison, but more importantly, the thing feels clumsy to hold and play which equally detract from producing the fullest tone.

Mk 6 its more light in Kg, Mk 7 more heavier , but Mk 7 cost more 500 Eur New in 1980 then Mk 6 . . ., today a used Mk 7 is 1/2 price , from a Mk 6.
@@ruicalcada1664 When my MK7 was set up perfectly it played fine, but as I mentioned, the feel of the horn was not for me. They play tested the horn and went through the designs initially, and overdid it on table keys, making them way too big and too low to reach for 90 percent of the players, every key appears almost double the size, which is silly really. So I wouldn't go back to an Mk7 simply because a Mk6 feels closer in key work, the guy testing the horn had huge hands apparently, which was not meant to be implemented in the Mk7 design initially, they swapped testers at the last minute, a big mistake. Also the taper of the neck does not produce as snappy or bright a tone, which can always be dulled down later if needed, or mellowed out through sub0toning or whatever preference, blowing softly etc, it's easy to take away from a full palette, harder to add if it is not there to start with. True there are bad mk 6's, that said has anyone actually bought a bad mk6 and done it up properly, my money is on the fact that it will still blow most other horns away, particularly mk7's. If I had to ditch the Mk6, then I'd rather play a totally different horn that is not designed for an 7 foot giant.

Não concordo muito consigo, os yamahas realmente são bons saxofones, tenho um Yts 32 de 1990 super afinado, mas os saxofones mais recentes perdem muita qualidade sonora o timbre é mais pobre e brilhante , são todos mto mais parecidos, mais homogeneos, mas isso tb acontece com os Selmer mais novos, o tipo de metal do passado tem outras caracteristicas de ressonancia que os sax de hoje não têm, eu tenho um Selmer SA 80 de 2006, e o tipo de metal é mto diferente do meu Tenor Mark 7 de 1980, não tem NADA a vêr, parecem de marcas diferentes ...

O Mark VII percebe se uma inconstância na afinação. O Mark VI bem superior em relação ao Mark VII em sonoridade e afinação. Yamaha 32 levemente mais Brilhante que os demais bem afinado. Porém o sax bem indicado pra música moderna Pop

@@JavierCavacini , não se esqueçam que estes saxofones dos anos 50, 60 , até inicio de 1980, eram todos feitos à mão , pelo que comparações de 2 sax, são mto relativas, e tb há determinadas boquilhas que casam mais com um sax do que outras, até metal versus ebonite, há bons mark 6 e bons mark 7 assim como mark 6 menos bons e mark 7 menos bons também . .
Eu falo por experiencia própria, tenho um super afinado YTS 32 de 1990, que não sei como, o afinador não sai do verde do Fá # agudo ao Sib Grave.. mas por outro lado não tem a profundidade de graves nem ressonancia de timbre de metal, nem projeccão de som do meu Tenor Mark 7 de 1980 .

3 different sax in any ways...
This is fantastic! All of the horns sonds great for their costs! Of course, selmers have a better tembre, but yamaha yas 32 is a student horn and selmers are for the professionals! So, it's not right to compare them. It's not right to compare selmer and yamaha saxophone in principle! There are no worse or better horns! There are just two companies, that see the saxophone sound different. The times change and the sound changes, so why doesn't we change? Why do we compare? These horns sounds perfectly, so we just choose the best for us!

Thanks for for opinion. I´m not trying to see which one is better, but trying to show that a student sax sounds really good comparing to the best saxes ever. Besides, these are the saxophones I had available. As you said, we choose the best for us.

Try to hear with better speakers. Anyway, a lot of people liked the semi pro Yamaha. It´s also a great sax.

The tonal difference isn't great enough to warrant such a huge price difference. I bet if you didn't show the sax you were playing no one would be able to guess which is which.

altho for me the yam was the brightest out of the bunch .....the mk6 swung it for me ...but in all honesty i agree with zippity plus with all the zillion effects people seem to play thru today without seeing them ...i dont think anybody could actually tell one from the other .......great playing by the way .....

Los 31 no los conozco. Los 32 son modelos semiprofesionales (en EEUU se llama 52 y en Europa 32). Están muy bien la verdad pero no llegan al sonido del 62 (sobre todo los viejos) o de los Selmer. De todas formas el sonido está en uno y es mejor empezar con algo intermedio para que luego aprecies más si tocas uno profesional.

Quem fala Selmer é porque não sabe o que está falando. O Yamaha intermediário é mais afinado e brigou de igual para igual com os modelos pro da Selmer. Yamaha melhor. E deixem da fanatismo por marcas!!!!

São saxofones diferentes com caracteristicas diferentes, mas desculpa nada tem a ver com marcas tem a ver com qualidade de timbre, os King também são excelentes saxofones, os Conn 10 M, os Martin Comité , os SML . . .tens excelentes saxofones sem ser Selmer, mas os Selmer tb não são todos iguais são instrumentos feitos à mão em 1950, 1960 até 1980, tens alguns melhores e alguns menos bons . . .

El Yamaha suena más parejo en todo el registro . Me hubiese gustado escuchar un Custom " En mi opinión es superior en todo. .
Gracias por tu opinión! Tuve varios años el Custom EX875 y suena tremendo. Comparado a los Selmer, el Custom (a mi entender) tiene un sonido más brillante, cálido y más controlado. De todas formas, yo sigo priorizando la calidad de sonido que brindan los armónicos, y no encontré nada aún parecido al Mark VI. Saludos!
Ok ! si , a mi entender ... los Selmer Añejos tienen ese timbre particular que se lo da los años de estar sonando . Habría que ver los Custom "como sonaran dentro de 50 Años"" Intuyo que los superará ampliamente a los ya conocidos Selmer MarkVI. Saludos cordiales .

Aren’t you comparing pro saxes against the Yamaha non-pro model? You’re comparing a $5,000.00+ MkVI against a $900.00 Yamaha. Why don’t you grab a 875ex ii or and 82Z...or the Atelier model? Better yet, grab a Yanagisawa AW020 or silver model. Apples and oranges and even at that the Yamaha ripped.
Well, first of all, these are the saxes available for me to record. Second, I wanted to notice that even a semi pro sax can compite with the best saxophones also. There are differences, of course, but if you read the comments, there are even people who prefer Yamaha. That´s the key: comparing a $5,000 sax with a $900.
