    When it comes to the crunch it's only the actual Silver that will be worth something. Not proof, high relief or low mintage coins. I would just buy well known government backed 1oz coins or well known bars... People won't care about anything but the silver value of first currencies go south big time..
    Although, collecting is fun...

      The foundation of my stack are American Silver Eagles and generic bars & rounds. Collecting the rest is fun but I mostly stack it as cheap as I can get it. Thanks for watching. 👍

    I have 22 oz of gold, and 450 oz of silver! I must admit that I am now beginning to enjoy coins like the Krugerrand (I own 25), and there comes a time when it's not always about the return. There comes a time (if you can afford it) where it's time to buy the coins that you enjoy. I have reached that time, so I bought the "Krugers", and I love them. I must confess, I only bought one to start with, then another 24, and I am pleased I did! Keep stacking everyone!

    This is perhaps the best primer for anybody considering silver. It also argues strongly for putting a large percentage of your silver investment into well-known brand generics. They are the preferred way to go both for flipping and for long-term investment (silver not gold). In fact the only real argument for ASEs and Maple Leafs is the confidence play as you adeptly point out.

    in the past when I bought silver and had to sell it, I found that the coin dealers who will give you spot for silver, wanted specifically---- silver eagles, canadian maple leafs, chinese pandas, etc. rather than junk silver and bars. Those were the ones they wanted. (I am not saying that this is the right way they should do business... I am just saying that when i tried to sell bars and less popular coins, they acted weird and wanted to give me less.) They wanted very recognizable coinage that they KNOW they can trust at a glance... and more importantly... coinage that they know thier buying customers of silver can trust at a glance.

    • @silverbeancounter
      @silverbeancounter  Před 6 lety +2

      +mydogjesus recognizability is a big deal. In my area, dealers pay $1 to $1.50 over spot. A hair under spot for generic. Interesting how local markets vary in terms of price.
      Thanks for watching and for the comment.

    • @mydogjesus
      @mydogjesus Před 6 lety +4

      No problem... I think people should visit their own local coin dealers (like you just said) and ASK what coins those locals prefer, and which ones they pay the premium dollar for. (Meaning; which ones can I at least get spot for) so that when you do buy silver, and have a need to sell some of it, you will always get back what you put into it, or at least get back 'close to' what you invested (even if you have a short term money emergency and have to sell at a time you would prefer not to.) :)

      +Carol Foley unfortunately the prices of the 2001 90% Silver Commemorative Buffalo from the US Mint is still selling for well below your purchase price. Average is about $100 for either proof or BU strike. If it was an MS70, it would sell for much more.... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hold on to it. It is still considered a nice collectible.

      Just my opinion. like stamps, most items SOLD NEW as 'collectible' will never recover the premium you paid over spot price. SCARCITY determines a premium over spot price,
      almost always, and when people sell the public brand new coins (or anything) as an 'investment', they are taking you to the cleaners.

    So I have not made any purchase yet. I'm just curious, when buyiing silver is there an over spot acceptance? I'm looking at Scottsdale Mint and the maple leaves over spot varies on quantity but its about $2.00. Thoughts?

    • @silverbeancounter
      @silverbeancounter  Před 5 lety +1

      That's not bad. I'd shop these following sites. All very highly recommend dealers:
      Provident Metals
      APMEX
      SD Bullion
      JM Bullion
      Monument Metals
      These are my favorites. I either wait for a sales announcement then buy. Or when I'm ready to simply place an order, I always price compare at these sites and select the best deal.
      Have fun!

      @@silverbeancounter Thank you for the recommendations. Currently, started watcing Dave Ramsey and have been enjoying his take on building wealth. Though, I'm not sure what his thoughts are on gold and silver. Since I already have my investments ill work on my 6 months cushion and then get some silver. I love talking finances.

    • @silverbeancounter

      I'm a fan of Dave Ramsey as well. I used his snowball method to pay off all our consumer debt. Hit the small one and knock them out one at a time. Living on less than what you make is a simple message to follow and I agree with him.
      Gold, however, Dave is not a fan of. He calls it a worthless rock that only goes up in value with fear.
      Not an accurate characterization IMO. Many financial advisors aren't a fan of precious metals. For me, and this is just my humble opinion for my own investment strategy, PMs are a good part of a diversified portfolio.

    Here in the UK, if you buy Britannia coins, then you do not have to pay what is known as Capital Gains Tax. That is to say that if you make a selling profit of more than £6000.00, then you do not have to pay an additional 16% tax to the government. Any other bullion bars, rounds or coins from other countries do not apply and tax may have to be paid.
    This sometimes applies to other countries, but not all and I'm not familiar on how this might work in the US.
    Nevertheless, this is worth considering if your country has these tax laws, or if they might implement them, particularly if the price of silver increases.

      No tax in AZ, TX, UT and others. As it should be, because the Constitution states money is silver and gold, so tax should never apply in any state in the USA, if these corrupt governments would just follow the original Constitution!!

    I just buy the cheapest that I can get for one ounce bars or rounds from Apmex or any similar reputable merchant. I don't buy this stuff on eBay. I am not saying that all silver or gold on eBay is fake but eBay is known for having unscrupulous sellers with various fake merchandise. I laugh at calling old coins junk silver. If someone thinks it is junk, I would be willing to take it for them. The only real difference is that the junk silver has a little bit of copper added to it and that makes it similar to Stirling silver. They only do that because pure silver is soft

    I was watching one of your other videos where you said about diversifying and your 401k. I've heard other guys into silver who say stocks are digital illusions of wealth. I take that with a grain of salt I just wonder why some take such a dramatic stance. I also diversify. Metals , stocks, property, custom and production pocket knives, guns, stamps, antiques, ect. I just wonder your thoughts on these guys (I won't mention names but I'm sure you can figure out who I mean) and why they are so convinced silver is the only way to go.

Will APMEX buy them back when and if silver ever moves again in my lifetime.
