The Albert Lee signature model has always been one of my favorite Ernie Ball Music Man guitars. And now Sterling by Music Man has created my FAVORITE version: the AL40P. This new model for 2023 is an absolute STUNNER of a guitar that comes equipped with P90 pickups. I bet you never though P90s could chug or be good for hard rock and metal, huh?
Well, let me tell you something...THIS GUITAR IS A SECRET RIFF MACHINE!
Enjoy my demo of the Sterling by Music Man AL40P Albert Lee model.

What a guitar! Would you believe me if I told you it was only $600?!
Check it out on Sweetwater: sweetwater.sjv.io/rQXxJd
I believe that it would appreciated by your viewers if you would also demonstrate the clean sound of each of the pickups. Clean sound without crunch, distortion or ambient effects. You demo was very good. However, it is helpful to a viewer to hear the clean sounds.
@@larrytrujillo5672 I appreciate the feedback. However, I don’t see any issue with a small amount of reverb on the guitar sound. It’s such a common effect and I only add a small amount after the tone shaping. It doesn’t color the tone that much.
I will consider your feedback though.
@@larrytrujillo5672 also, I did use a clean tone @ 5:08 with light reverb
I have the one in Sherwood green and it's just awsome. Highly recommended. Very comfortable and playable with great tones. Buy one.
Hi Sean Pierce, I have 2 Sterling Albert Lee models with humbuckers. The first one is from 2022 with a Daphne Blue finish and the other is a 2018 in a Dark Cherry finish they call Trans Walnut finish. Their neck profiles are a little different, but other than that and the color they're the same guitar. I liked the first one so much I bought a second one as a back up. What sold me on them was the neck profile, fretboard radius, balance and the weight. I don't see anything wrong with the pickups or electronics either. They're the most comfortable playing guitars I've ever had. I've owned 16 others guitars. I also have a Telecaster and ES 339 that I don't play as much.
I got the Daphne blue in 2018, just fell in love with it. I only had a fender strat 1994 and was really loyal to it till I saw Daphne. Vintage cream looks amazing though! I am so tempted to sell it and get this one - it sounds the same though!
Thank you both for your words on the SBMM Albert Lee HH. I'm about to purchase my first electric guitar and I've decided a Daphne Blue Albert Lee HH is the one for me. I love the toggle options for the two humbuckers. And it's a damn cool looking guitar!
Yeah, cool review and thanks for having done it.
I've just purchased this precisely model with this vintage cream colourway.
PS I'm lookin'forward to play it 😊
Just bought one from Sweetwater and agree with everything Sean said. By the way great playing. Thanks for the honest review.
Awesome! Thank you for watching! This has me looking at more expensive Music Man versions
I absolutely love this guitar. If it had stainless steel friends, I would order it right now. I’m on the fence. Congratulations for 10 K by the way!
i say it's worth it! i had no idea what the price was...it's only $600! at that price i wouldn't even expect SS frets.
so just in case you want it: sweetwater.sjv.io/rQXxJd
I have the cream white one. I love it. I have 14 guitars and this is the one I cannot put down. For now. =)
Hey hey... wassup SPJ! LOVE that guitar! Incredible value and a stunner in looks if you ask me! Those P-90s sure have some chime to them... and then right into some Killah classic rock tones... and beyond! And Music Man Sterling comes through with great features you normally expect in a much higher priced guitar! Awesome video, as always! 😎🎸🤘
Thanks Laz! Definitely agree. The chime is off the charts!
I’ll show y’all the next one soon 👍 let’s just say it rules…😉
Some cool Post Rock riffs there...
Thanks! I like that riff. Gotta turn it into something soon
This is a fantastic guitar. I've had it for about 5 weeks and the quality is extremely good!!! I've had a couple other Sterlings that were 'meh' at best, but this one is a keeper for sure. I like playing it as much as my main guitar which is an actual Music Man Albert Lee HH. I can't believe what a good value this is. And yes, the block inlays called out to me, lol.
I’ve been hearing that about Sterlings being “meh” sometimes. I’m surprised because I quite liked what I’ve played.
I’ll have some Shorts coming out of the other new models soon.
That is badass
It is!
Dang, it sounds good. Almost a 12-string timbre sometimes. Seems like nice tone in the highs. P90s win again.
Damn ! I wish this guitar was my lover
uhhhh....
I want one now too
I want two: one to keep stock and one to mod with some humbuckers for the REAL heavy stuff
Pop and locking tuners on this thing, get a good set up…and that just might be it.
Fantastic review. Thank you so much.
Locking tuners would be awesome. But I love those pearl buttons. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Planning to buy one (a Cutlass) for my growing collection 😊 After two Fenders (Strat and a Tele), one Gibson LP Special and a Squier CV Mustang this is the perfect excuse... 😊
Awesome! Thanks be played the new Cutlasses and they are awesome. If you’re in the US, may I humbly request you use my Sweetwater link? It’s in the pinned comment.
It’ll take you to the Albert Lee but you can shop for anything else and whatever you order I’ll get a small cut of to help fund the channel. It would really help a lot.
@@SeanPierceJohnson I live outside the US, but anyways thanks for your attention 👍
I'm new to your CZcams Channel 🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶 Thanks for sharing 🎸🎶
Welcome! Thanks for watching
Daneletro danoblaster. Hidden beast of a guitar
i've been looking at old Dano's from the 90s lately. but i think anyone would agree a Danelectro Baritone is something special
Does anybody know if there are any after-market locking tuners that drop in without modification? Thanks.
I have the Ernie Ball Music Man Albert Lee SSS. I would like to convert it into either P90's or even HB....
I remember the SSS version! Such a classic. I don’t think they make them that way anymore really
They do upon request@@SeanPierceJohnson
Keith Richards himself was using a music man when touring with the expensive winos
Could you please tell me if it had exceptional tuning stability?
Stay in tune really well! It helped that the bridge was decked on the body and I didn’t use the whammy bar. But I like this guitar that way.
Sterling and I have a love/hate relationship. I want to love their offerings and keep getting tempted by them, but I’ve been burned far too many times by questionable to outright bad QC. How’s this held up for you in that regard?
Interesting. Well, I borrowed it from Sterling so it was at their showroom and available for artists to check out.
They may have set it up but I don’t know what else other than the usual final QC in the states.
I was quite pleased from the get-go.
How much does the guitar weigh? I have 2 AL40HH models one Cherry finish 7.5 lbs., the other is a Daphne Blue at 6 pounds. Both of them turned out to be the guitars I really needed. The size, balance and weight were perfect for me. The neck profile and fretboard radius fit my hand just right. The humbuckers sound great with the 5 position switch as well.
I never weighed it when I had it.
Can the pick guard be removed? or it a a pick up package?
It’s like any normal pickguard…it can be removed. But aftermarket guards for this guitar aren’t readily available.
Did the P90s on this model give you the 60 cycle hum?
Yep. Like any single coil they will. I used a Revv G8 to keep that it check
IF it was alder body, I would say sold.
These are 800gbp in the UK
So nearly 1000usd.
Shame.
Weird…they are $599 right now on Sweetwater. Import taxes & fees suck.
I'd put 9s on it. just sayin'
I like 10s
That’s a pos. Get a real one
What is "real" anyway???
