      Fluffer Pupper it’s a type of internalized oppression, not unlike a black person who doesn’t like black people. Many cis non heterosexuals desperately want to be accepted by cishets. Instead of coming to the conclusion that some people are just gonna be homophobic, they try to find a justification for why one might be that way. This leads them to look for a scapegoat which usually takes the form of either trans people, enbys, bisexuals, or anyone else in the lgbtq community that isn’t exclusively gay or isn’t cis.

      I think it's kind of an issue with well meaning liberals who think "sexuality/gender shouldn't matter", "LGBT people are just like you". It sounds nice but in practice it's quite heteronormative because it basically discourages any distinctive queer expression of sexuality and gender. After I first came out to my straight friends as gay, I felt like I had to prove that "this doesn't change anything about me, I'm still the same person" but in hindsight it's clear I was experiencing internalized homophobia and I'm still kinda working on it.

Gay people can of course think on their own, I'm by no means saying that people have to agree with my point of view - I was just expressing it on a video that I agreed with. Just saying that is ignorent. Why do you have to lump us all together? You certainly didn’t take a poll. :T also how are we “excluding” :T you are literally including everyone you want to and not asking first. Another thing, what is the lgbtq? Other than “everything that isn’t str8” here’s a news flash…. THE LGBT IS EXCLUSIONARY. It’s designed to be. So is POC. Both these terms are basically saying “everyone I like” because saying “I don’t like so and so” or “we are different than so and so” sounds wrong. But guess what? Both are horribly wrong. @@atallus_ my favorite part is when you called all gays, bi people, and lesbian bigoted. :T you are in fact a bigot. You are a bigot because you are still forcing the term community which implies plenty of bigoted things. You are ignorant because you speak in this way completely against the point. Even twisting it to try and say it back. “ you don’t know the history” oh look the ignorent are claiming the opposition doesn’t know better. I’m a gay man. You know they literally changed around the letters to put lesbians in front of us? You know by adding trans and queer they completely crapped all over the progress we caught for because people like you wanted different? Again, how are we a community? You still haven’t answered. That’s just a cult term they use to lump us together. Go look at what that word means. :T go look at the time each definition put. I know all the things the lgbt ACTUALLY DID. All you know is the good stuff they told you they do and how great it is. You are an enemy of gay, lesbian, and bi people. Saying you aren’t homophobic doesn’t help. You are like one of those people who says “I’m not homophobic, I just don’t think gays should get married” I blame people like you more for the hate crimes, suicides, and abused kids. Why? Because if not for the lgbt we would have done what we wanted. And gay would just be a normal thing. Not some celebrated thing you need to have pride in or you hate yourself. Pride and the lgbt are political movements. To suggest someone is against themselves for being against them is inherently homophobic. Even if you don’t think that word fits you… remember all the crap you said. Even if you don’t hate us you are still terrible to us. And I would rather have a hateful neighbor than abusive siblings.

      @voilaviolamh I'm not trans and my comment is not specific to the video. It's a comment on how this is in general a moronic argument to use. If we're talking trans issues, you are downplaying the very real effects discriminatory attitudes have on marginalized people. To voice those feelings helps normalize them and validates those who hold them at any level of severity. Thus, they feel justified in their bigotry while those targeted feel unwelcome and unsafe. It stands to reason that a trans person being told they don't belong in the community would get defensive about it because you are claiming that they don't belong in what is possibly the only place where they don't feel othered, out of nowhere and with, in my opinion, bogus reasoning. A lot of the time accusations like this are used the context of politics, and I hope I don't have to explain to you how big an effect political decisions can have on the downtrodden. It is ridiculous to claim that your opinion is invalid if, again, you betray at any point that the subject concerns you, and only something that someone very lucky to be able to view the subject as totally divorced from themselves could say.

    • @its_the_bird
      @its_the_bird Před 4 lety +29

      EXACTLYYY agh like, I don't mind at all if people call me bi instead of pan. There are some people that argue that pan people can like nb people, but bi people can't, and that seems like a weird way to target bi people as somewhat transphobic, and also it's a weird way to sneakily further ostracize or fetishize nb people. I'm sure some people don't view it as that, and it's fine to have different interests, but it's not fine to basically say bi people as a whole are less progressive somehow.
      For me, I feel I am pan because I notice a person's personality first as my way of being attracted to them (that's just my personal reasoning and identity, though). Before I started T, I used to feel I was gay with some bi leanings (mostly biromantic, as I had fallen for a few women, but was mainly interested in men both romantically and otherwise). I now just think "wow, cute person! wowee" when I see or am around someone that is my type. That type is wider now, and more amorphous. I have a hugeee thing for creative types and people who enjoy pondering most anything, so that to me is the most defining aspect of my sexuality; it is based on person to person without their gender affecting it much or any. I used to feel different varieties and levels of attraction to different identities of gender before (when I felt somewhat bi leaning), if that makes sense.
      I have no qualms with how people identify me under the larger Bi umbrella, but people saying only pan people can like trans or nb people is pretty whack. No one should feel forced to change how they identify their sexuality based on how other people view it.
      There are some nb people that identity as gay or lesbian, and it may be more difficult for people to understand currently, but it's absolutely valid for someone to have individual preferences and interests, as long as they aren't based on ignorance or prejudice. Some trans people wont date other trans people because of dysphoria they tend to get from that, and that's absolutely fine with me, because they want to take care of themselves, and realize they could become toxic to themselves and/or others because of how they experience and feel things. I used to not want to date other trans men before I fully came out, and that was due to deep rooted self esteem and dysphoria issues, but now I am more than happy to date other trans men.
      whew I went on a big thing there. Sorry lol. I haven't been able to talk many LGBT+ nuanced things with people lately ahhah

      @@its_the_bird Fucking same my dude. Being pan doesn't make someone above or somehow "more woke" than bi people. Everyone has their own relationship with labels and their definitions, but identifying as something similar to someone else does not justify hate.
      I have also encountered a lot of people who think that people identifying as pan is disrespectful to bi people because it is ignoring our history and I'm just like. Bro- It's MULTISEXUAL history. As in PEOPLE WHO LIKE MORE THAN ONE GENDER. Not just bi history. By that logic we should never evolve or change our language ever because it's "disrespectful to history." Like even though Marsha P Johnson identified as a drag queen doesn't mean that she is not a part of TRANS history. Just because it is not the same exact label doesn't mean that it is not our history.
      Overall I think people just try to find ways to make themselves feel above people when in reality, we should just respect each other and our differences and our similarities and experiences and choices because we're all on the same team and go through the same struggles of being multisexual.

      And I just hate when some people say that Bi are not attracted to trans people (including NB)
      I mean I get why some people wouldn't want to date trans ppl, like it can be pure transphobia but sometimes it's just that the other person is not willing to go with everything that comes with being trans in a relationship, but that doesn't mean you have to generalize :')))

      I came out as a gay man in 1984, I'm a cis gay man but I don't think that term was around then. Anyway I joined in with the LGBTQ civil rights movement and marched, wrote letters, helped create our local LGBTQ Community Center. Those of us who were out never questioned who belonged, we welcomed everyone. Because we were all fighting against the same discrimination and seeking the same civil rights. It's better now, but we are all still fighting for the same thing, everyone belongs, always have and always will as far as I'm concerned!!!

    Sad to see that it is still a problem, especially among lesbians. I used to hang out in lesbian circles in the 90's and felt ostracised because I'm pansexual and trans. But there wasn't any place else to go back then for a masculine presenting "girl".

    This reminds me of a conversation I had with my girlfriend at the time. She and I disagreed on wether asexuality should be included in LGBT. In my eyes, asexuality is a diverging form of expected sexuality and therefore belonged to the LGBT community. In her eyes, asexuality isn't something people are systematically being discriminated on, such as gender expression in the workplace or same sex marriage. We couldn't convince one another because we saw the essence of the LGBT community differently. She saw it as a political united front who fights for human rights, whereas my focus layed more on the social community aspect of it. I believe the community can be both, but I understand why people get anxious about making a less precise point by "diluting" the message. But I believe that's why having subgroups for political action makes sense. There can be a Trans chapter in the community, that doesn't require boundaries between other chapters/letters.

    • @lacvna.
      @lacvna. Před 4 lety +7

      asexuals are pretty discriminated against. most arguments i've heard about ace people not being in the community is because if they are cishet (romantically) then it'd make no sense since they don't experience ssa/sga nor gender dysphoria. the good arguments (against it) will say that it's not inherently lgbt when they are cishet (romantically)
