That melody is pure evil (in Mozartian standards). He was just so genius that created subtle variations in tone to represent all the evilness of die Königin in this melody, without losing the characteristic sound of his Art and of that epoch. Pure evil and genius combined! Damrau's a genius in performing the character that properly.
+ Greg Jonson Mozart has an enormous sense of Humor Greg... there is nothing Hateful in this aria's Music but indeed the words she speaks are full of hatred... I doubt that Mozart could actually write Hateful Music, he was the most Celestial Being in Music, unbelievably Gentle and Elegant (quite opposite to his "vulgar" and extreme humorist real life self. You know one of his most famous quotes is: "Ive been shitting through this crack so many years now and yet it hasnt been torn apart" :D :D :D)... I had never enjoyed opera either. Then my car radio got stuck on a classical station. The first time I heard the song was during a violent thunderstorm. A metaphysical experience I hadn't dreamed of.
This is outdoors, so a microphone is absolutely necessary. No voice is powerful enough to triumph over nature, why do you think we built concert halls?
It’s not really just the volume though . We classical singers are trained to really enunciate so being too close to the microphone is a nightmare as it picks up all of that and then some lol 😆
This piece would take everything out of you. Takes a tremendous amount of control. Diana is an amazing singer. I'm not an opera fan but it's interesting to hear how different each singer is.
