    With the frilly shape you get more leading edge surface area, which can help with surge lines and better (but peakier) efficiency at a higher pressure ratio. But it is overall less adiabatic efficient because it has more leading edge area to heat the air up. Sharp leading edges will cause more heat and eddys.
    Still a fine wheel but it's a cosmetic display without any real benefit over some other billet version that looks more like a Garrett billet.

    Nice review dude! just a quick input form my experience I have a speed3. I bought a used stock k04 with a batwmowheel upgrade they said it had around 5k on it. I don't know who built the turbo. I loved it while it lasted I had full boost 2800rpm( stock is 3k) and it held 22psi to redline I never tried to push it higher. I ran it probably around 5 to 10,000 miles and it did let go. Was going up hill and heard a pop the bearings let go but that batmowheel flowed some air for such a little turbo.

    Not related to these particular compressor wheels, but I have a few questions. I bought some billet compressor wheels from you a couple of years ago but I never got around to doing anything with them as I had other problems with the car. Anyway I have a pair of Garrett T04R's still in perfectly good condition that have the original cast 6+6 blade wheels. I bought some billet 7+7 wheels from you and I was thinking I might as well get some rebuild kits as well and freshen them up before I swap the comp wheels out. Should I find some place to rebalance my turbos after I do this or will they be fine? I was also wondering if you know of anyone that has already tried swapping out cast 6+6 wheels for the billet 7+7 wheels? What kind of difference should it make?

    • @73powerstroke56
      @73powerstroke56 Před 4 lety

      When the machine something or forge somethings as well and melt something together like tires one side can be more dense then the other side. Even though they appear the same and measure out the same. What I mean by dense is one side could be harder or softer. Tires and rubber for instance. When they make a tire it goes in to a moot. Well one side of the tire can for instance be pressed together with more rubber but being molded the same way. That's why we have to balance our tire and put weights on the wheels. Other wise as it rolls around at high speeds it will cause it to wobble or bounce around. A balance mark is just where they took away some metal or added metal on that side because the other side has less or more metal. A compressor wheel that isn't balance on a turbo can cause premature wear on ur seals and bearings. Could in worse case scenario brake the impeller shaft.

    In lieu of opinion, why not just build an engine and change absolutely nothing on it but the compressor wheel and run tests on an inertia-roller dynamometer to see which wheel makes boost faster and also which one spins up the roller the fastest overall, from which you will gather the most overall power when wheel is finally spooled up?
    Literally no other channel on CZcams does this. You could become THE go-to channel for intelligent turbocharger testing.
    There is a gigantic hole in the CZcams channel lineup that you can take advantage of.
