She always sang the story. I did notice on occasion Pia tends to yell a held note instead of singing it. If she could turn such notes into something else - maybe light and lyrical instead of full power - it might add some playfulness. Jennifer Lopez advised Pia to listen to many different singers. The really great singers put personality into their songs. Not trills. Not flourishes that oversing. Those kill a song. But expression. It makes all the difference. Barbara Streisand adds unexpected variations, though she could be mechanically perfect if she wants to. Judy Garland's famous live performance of, "Over the Rainbow" in clown face where she cries is packed with passion. Any of her live performances on CZcams are a treasure. Look for one titled "Judy Garland - Swanee, 1962" . She totally sang the story, and the song took care of itself. My mom used to say she could sing the he77 out of anything. Plus, Judy Garland had a voice that moved around a bit at times and you thought it might fail, but it never did. That uncertainty made it beautiful.
