The GSG 100 is the closest thing to a Dumble style amp to my ears. It also has three OD settings and several different tone options. The other two we can use just for fun to learn something else. IMHO the GSG 100 + Minotaur + two Analog Man pedals complete the D-question for the HX. Thanks for the video - it’s really interesting.
@NedJeffery totally. I never use the OD channel. On the Fractal I use it quite a bit. There’s also a bit of a sweet spot to get that ODS tone. Have to mess with the OD Level a bit
Your JohnM patch was sweet! The Grammataco sounded more dialed in than the new Aristocrat. I'd be curious to hear the Aristocrat after you've had a chance to work with it and the cab and then compare between that and your JohnM. Nice tones!
without the band the GSG sounds the best, but I can imagine that this very little bit more harsh Aristocrat tone might be better to cut through the mix. I mean it is not that harsh, just have like more noticeable grain.
You have an interesting way of setting up your chain. I have never seen folks in the Helix family put the amp on path 2A instead of on the first line. Could you explain this? It sounds wonderful btw. Good job.
It’s simply because I ran out of DSP on the first line to put it there. As you can see there are a lot of pre and post effects going on. The Grammatico Mayer preset I made is one of my favorites. I also love the Litigator specific one I made that’s on my website for a slightly different amp feel. Those are really dialed it!
Hello. Love that tone. I bought the HX stomp preset, but when I try to import it, I get the message: “HX Edit was unable to import this preset because it contains unrecognized models.” Any ID? Did you use any IRs for this preset? Thanks!
@@JonKaneshiroGuitar so this is embarrassing.. I updated the HX stomp, but not the HX edit software. Mostly my fault, but also partly Line 6’s. lol HX edit software update as well and the preset imported perfectly. It sounds great, good job!
They’re great for sure, but without some extra love from some EQ blocks they just don’t do it for me like the GSG100 does. But if you go through the video you’ll see me going through some of my presets based around the Litigator and GSG. They just feel more full than stock parameters.

Damn, the most authentic Mayer tones I think I’ve ever heard from the Helix. You really nailed it!

Definitely PFG!
Thank you! Really happy with this one. Recording the POD Go version tonight.
The aristocrat is my favorite new amp in the update. I love it, nice sounding video by the way.
Thank you! It’s great!
Aristocrat has the chirping tone and I love it
Listening back, I can hear what you mean! I need to experiment more with it!
The new Aristocrat is my fav, and now my main preset.
Love it!
Good job man! 3 of my favorite D style amp models right now as well. You have a good ear for the JM tones. Excellent.
Thank you!
@@JonKaneshiroGuitar - Checked out your store and was curious, is there a link for all 3 of these presets or do you have to buy each separately?
@sboy1955 I didn’t create any preset for the new amp unfortunately! Just one for the Litigator and one for the Grammatico.
@@JonKaneshiroGuitar ok

Yeah the GSG just does “it” for me!
I've never gelled with the OD channel on the GSG. It's better clean. I don't even use the FET boost.

Good idea! I haven’t had a ton of time with the new firmware yet, but am planning to soon.
Thank you everyone for not giving me a hard time about calling the Aristocrat amp the Aristocat amp. Haha😅
It actually makes sense, as it came from the CATalyst :-)
@ninetydegreeplanet haha!😂
That would be Thomas O’Malley’s favorite amp! 🤣
@robertshamansky1912 haha! O’Malley the alley cat😂
Naturalmant! The a-ris-to-cats!
For lead overdriven LP tones I think I actually prefer the new Aristocrat to the other two, it's also easier to dial in than the gsg imo
I need to plug in my humbucker guitar and give it a try!

nice job- great playing and tones
Thank you! Means a lot to me.
These sound great. I'm tempted to add a Stomp to my FM9 rig lol
Do it! I have a stomp version too.

By chance have you updated your firmware?
Feel free to email me though if you have trouble!!
@@JonKaneshiroGuitar Yes, I forgot to mention that. I just updated to 3.70 today. Also tried restarting both the HX edit and the Stomp unit.
Hmmm. Let me check it out when I get home today! We’ll make it right, don’t worry. Haven’t had this issue with anyone trying to upload it.

What pickups are in that guitar?
This is a Mike Lull SX Custom. I’m running Lollar Blondes and a Lollar Low Wind Imperial. They do the John Mayer thing really well!
Thanks for the answer man! Great videos
@@pookievanderbilt6889 thank you! These Mike Lull guitars are pretty much all I use. They’re amazing!
Is this also on the pod go?
Not yet, but hopefully will get my hands on a pog go soon!
@@JonKaneshiroGuitar that would be awesome, it recently got a firmware update and I feel like it’s very good for the price
@juanpaju8096 it sure is. I need to return the Tone Master Pro before I get the Pod Go.
Have a POD Go on the way!
ligator and aristocrat are the best
