The world of mechanical keyboards is a vast one. It can be overwhelming, confusing, and most importantly, expensive.
Now before you go looking at the keyboards, it’s crucial to know what type of switches you’d like first.
There are a ton of different sounds and feelings and getting one you're not sure of can be a huge waste of time and money. Get the right sound and feel.

im still crying over the stabs on the switch example keyboards
Exactly, cuz those were cherry MX blues, and the man who made it intentionally removed all the stabs. He also removed the plate as well to make the worst keyboard ever.
personally I do not thick they should really be talking about this topic.
@@ur_hot_cupcake he is not talking about the iAtneh he’s talking about the keyboards that the video shows with blue red and browns
same, they haunt me in my nightmares
That dude with the hentai keyboard probably has memorized all of the numbers and names of each key
Is that not normal?
Glarses is the one reacting to it, not the one with the hentai keyboard.
Hamaji Neo is the one that made that keyboard. Amazing content and I highly recommend
_what numbers?_
Ehh you should be able to memorize most of the keys on a keyboard if you know how to type anyways
Those switch example boards are gonna make me cry
Fr. Probably the worst examples they could've chosen.
"often very silent" shows and absolutely screaming keyboard
Heads up! There are other switches than Cherry MX!
What?!!! Now wayyy
😱
Gateron: Im you but… exactly the same. And a little cheaper.
no cherry mx is the only brand of key switch ever to exist and you can’t prove me wrong
@@xelloe gateron, tecsee, kailh, c3, wuque studios, hmx, bsun, kineticlabs, novelkey, JWK/Durock, Aflon, Outemu, Prevail, Akko, KTT, Everglide, etc.: am i a joke to you?
"don't buy blue switch." it's like saying :
don't buy taco 🌮,
or don't but pizza 🍕,
or don't buy sushi 🍣,
or don't buy steaks 🥩.
nah, everyone have their own preferences,
hence there are linear, tactile and clicky switch.
I like my switches' loud and show dominance so I chose blue. Kinda like peeing straight into the water of the toilet bowl instead of shooting to the side.
how does being loud equate to dominance?
@@whysmile9412 that's exactly what a silent pisser would say smh
not loud enough, get box jades instead
lol me to
@@rad1atanot loud enough, get arctic foxes instead
Most knowledgeable people in the hobby will actually dissuade you from trying to decide what switch you think you’ll like based on a key switch tester.
I chose with a switch tester when first getting into the hobby and ended up finding out in actual full board typing i like a completely opposite kind of switch.
If you don’t have the opportunity to test on a full board anywhere start with a set of budget switches - even if they end up not being your favorite they’ll still be plenty usable, and when you eventually upgrade given your new knowledge, you have the first set to practice lubing on :)
1. Tactile
2. Linear
3. Clicky
to the title; jokes on you, i bought me some box jades!
Nice sound, innit? Got me some Navies for my RK keyboards, personally.
@@jesuszamora6949 not a fan of the sound, but holy the feel is awesome.
@@pvddx The navies have a more meaty sound, though they are a bit heavier.
Personally, I don’t know if I can speak for everyone but the majority of the people who are getting into keyboards will always want clicky first, and then switch to tactile
Except for zeal clickys which are awful
For my first build I immediately started with linear switches and haven’t swaped
I had blues then redd then box whites i always love clickies ❤❤❤
hel;l no i wanted a linear when i first started but then switches to tactile because it is simply better
@@luner_ghast6856 went from tactile to linear to max cherry switches. Still undecided on which switches are best though
issue is, cherry mx blue sound terrible for a clicky switch, as all click jacket switches sound terrible and all other clicky switches sound much better.
Love my blue switches
Psycho
same
Same
From bue to black, red, and back again on blue(low profile switches)
Have you guys try other clicky switch?
As a mech keeb “snob” I would like to inform the reader that linears are not often silent, unless you purchase silent linears
Blue switches are so satisfying though, when it's not in the dead of night. At daytime it sounds the best with noise from everywhere else
@@ToastedBread_ I have g915 tkl and I LOVE IT... It doesn't get that loud as the normal profile switch but still gives me the sastifying sound
@@ToastedBread_ when it's quiet, yes. When it's not quiet like your neighbors, then it's perfect
I take my blue switches to office.
Not sure why people find it to be that big a deal, honestly. It's not like it's got a fucking solenoid in there - it's not that much louder than a mouse click, and certainly not as loud as someone slamming the keys of a rubberdome keyboard to get it to actuate.
@@jesuszamora6949 💯
@@jesuszamora6949 a mouse click is present for a split second, a keyboard IS NOT
@@jesuszamora6949 imagine hearing that noise FOR SOO LONG, not everyone is into that, thus i won't use my blue switches when there's someone near me, out of basic human respect to not piss off everyone i see, i have red switches which i use instead, and it's nice as well.
Blue switches the best ones had many different ones bit the sound And the feel Is JUST awesome
Brown switch gets that feeling without the loudness of blue
Imma need that first keyboard for reasons🙏💀
Typing one handed
Only switches I want are the ones in bed when the lights are off.
Oh wait we're talking about keyboard switches?
Ayo 📷🤨
😭
We love the Henta-i.
True
My wife loves blue switches and types super fast….
She's not the one...
I like blue switch and many people hate it. Idk why, I guess it's too loud, not when I'm wearing headphones 🤯
Idk why I found the blue switched satisfying
@@4hoodgames i know, right?
clickies aren't bad, blues are
the main issue is they feel like noisy linears and are sometimes mushy, it's not always about the sound
If you don't want to buy a sampler, you can do what I did. I went to a couple of tech stores nearby and tested out their keyboards, ones with switches like razer green, razer optical, brown, reds, etc. I ended up choosing the razer hunstman elite v2 because it was on sale and I like the tactile feel (I also already had a razer mouse so it made senseto stay with the brand). Yes it is loud but it's not a problem for me because I always wear headphones on like 80% volume when playing, so I can't even hear the keyboard. After 3 or so months of use, I love it and highly recommend it.
Razer keyboards seem nice enough (even though their switches are essentially rebranded Greetech), but the Synapse bloatware is an immediate turnoff.
I personally like cherry blues more than linear switches because they just feel way better and way more responsive.
Clicky itself isn’t bad. Box Jades/Navies are beloved after all, but cherry blues tend to have a less sharp click to them in comparison.
Get a tactile then, it’s like a clicky but it doesn’t click
I hope you live alone or in a super well noise dampened room because you contribute to noise pollution and I feel bad for people around you
It’s because you’re buying cherry switches, try others, like holy pandas or gateron lions
I dont get why people like quiet keyboards ngl, they feel less like you actually hit the button you wanted to hit and more like a misclick
I prefer the feeling over the sound. The perfect keyboard would have great tactile feeling while remaining silent
Him: "often very silent"
Me: sees the sound test and laughs hysterically
But why? Are you going to give actual reasons, or...?
The word "THOCK" id gonna end me AUUGGHHHHG
i think mx blues are too rattly which sorta amplifies the annoying sounds that come with clickies, but kailh makes a lot of clickies that have less rattle (although they are still clicky and some people may naturally still find them at least SOMEWHAT annoying)
If you need more help with finding a good keyboard i would recommend buying a keychron v series or maybe a Ciy gas67. Also for switches if you want a strong tactile feedback on a budget get the jwk t1s and to make these even better springswap with a heavier spring and lube them. If you want a smooth linear switch out of the box you should purchase some gateron china joys
My recommendation, linear is nice for those who prefer a smooth feeling key that has the same resistance all the way down, Tactile are great for those who like that confirmation they pressed the key. If you like clicky you’re either a child, lying or hate anyone in a 5 mile radius.
I love blue switches and always will
Don't ever recommend that switch tester in 2022. Please.
They never recommended that switch tester, that was just a picture to show what it looks like
@@JMlolVal they literally said "we strongly recommend picking up a switch sampler"
@@bugcapoo9310 the og commenter said the the score esports said that they recommended switch tester that was on screen which they didn't they just showed it as an example
@@JMlolVal It's all outdated bullshit. No one wants cheap ass unpopular switches that aren't relevant.
im in pain from the example keyboard BRO THE RATTLE I WANT TO CRY
I had a Cherry Mx blue Keyboard that was Wayyy to Clicky and loud and now i got a Membrane one that is 60% And honestly its better for me cause i dont really feel a difference in performance but I like the Damper Sound of it and honestly think Mechanical keyboards aren’t needed at all
The space button gotta be loud asf tho
I am greatly regretting my decision to purchase a non hotswappable pre built keyboard with blue switches.
I did the exact same and I’m now waiting on my first DIY kit with everything swappable!
..just learn how to solder. it took me 15min. id rather spend $20 on solder + $15switches than $80 'hot swappable'. >.>
@@winstonveluz3970 i dont wanna mess my only keyboard up. I only have a thick solder, cant do micro stuff
The first one was VIA GLARSES not VIA HAMAJI NEO
Actually it's from a hamaji neo video featuring glarses.
the black boi in the start of the video, is actually glarses, fucken comedy gold for tech nerds
I like this video, it's pretty informant about each switch
Be careful. Remember once you tock, you never tock back.
There’s nothing wrong with clicky switches it’s all down to personal preference lol. If you look outside the main brands like cherry and gateron there are plenty of very good clicky switches. It seems like you’re just talking about pre-built keyboards with cherry blues inside a cheap plastic housing with flimsy stabilises.
Yeah, just not blue switches. Best types of clicky switches are box jades and box navy
Damn seeing hamaji neo at the start took me back.
Biggest problem for me is what type of keyboard I need. Both for gaming and for work :(
I started with blue ones bc the clicky sound motivated me to get better at gaming. Then I switched to red and now Im getting a blue switch keyboard only for typing. Blue is awesome 😎
I just love it when my stabs sound like nails on a chalk board
Keychain v1 is basically a cheap custom keyboard but only the blue switches are available rn
I used to be a pianist so resistance of a key (or its coil spring) doesn’t bother me much
I dislike it more having a keyboard that wasn’t built to be opened up many times
And I dislike when they got too much space open and tiny stuff goes in between the keys
And some other shit but yea not too much the force I need to press a key unless it’s ridiculously high
Bro look at those dandruffs hiding below the keys of that keyboard
The guy in the first part of the video is glarses and you should definitely watch him (bc I couldn’t find any credit to glarses in the video or in the description)
Blue switches are nice, but the click jacket is an inferior mechanism to generate the click compared to a clickbar. If you're looking for clicky, you're better off with a Kailh Box Jade or Navy, or a Chosfox Arctic Fox.
Also, brown switches aren't REALLY tactile. Honestly, it's hard to get good a non-clicky tactile sensation in the MX style. I hear the Kailh Box Royals are pretty good in that department, though.
You legit use the worst possible gaming keyboards for the sound tests lmao
The only reason you buy blue switches is for a Stickless Arcade Stick that uses Keyboard Switches. That noise is a good indicator you pressed a button.
I love blue switches. Had them on my red dragon when I got my first keyboard and have them again on my Logitech G513 Carbon
When people only focus on how it "sounds" compared to the actual factual differences between the different switches, remember kidos, there are more options than just the cherry MX switches.
Once you know that you'll be using different switches for different games, OSU, I'll use reds, other games I'll use blue, typing, I'll prefer red. all personal preference, just gotta find the right one for you.
Not a single board in this video sounded or looked good. And the description of a linear switch was not at all accurate.
Talking enthusiast level, any switch is fine if it’s made well enough and tuned to a liking
My A4tech keyboard: 🤠
Cherry mx speed for gaming is my favorite so far. But... up next I'll like a glorious modular keyboard. Just so that I can but MX cherry speed or Reds on the WASDFQER (and) SPACE (and) control [I use that instead of shift] keys, but replace every other key with a blue switch😂 because typing with blue switches just feel amazing. Maybe it's a personal thing, but I feel like anyone who's done a thesis would agree that blue switches are the best😂
So I belong in a maximum security prison for liking clicky ass keyboards
brown outemu switches are just as loud as blue but take more force to press. Me likey the sound
I LOVE the clicky ones. It’s ASMR for me. I just bought one. 😁
I remember my first mechanical keyboard. Twas a clicky one. Now I wouldn't even consider it.
literally all three sound exactly the same lol
Anyway to make my Onn wired gaming keyboard sound better? It’s the older model, the full sized, metal housed, blue switch keyboard. I think I have room for foam. It has swappable keycaps but soldered on switches, and I don’t have a solder station nor the skills to solder. Any suggestions?
I have clicky ones, I hate them. Thanks msi 💀
As a clicky keyboard enjoyer, even for gaming, if I lived with someone that said not to buy blues then I'd move out.
my mang (typed this on clicky g915 tkl)
Kailh clicky switches lineup is good, even for me who always stick to linear like it
I hate that i know every single sauce on that 1st keyboard keycaps
If you like clicky switches, THEN BUY THEM. Don’t let the internet tell you what you should like and shouldn’t like. As long as the noise isn’t bothering those around you
*Me buying the loudes switches to annoye the whole vc*
Misleading clickbait title
Yeah for real, my gf forced me to buy a quieter keyboard lol
Brown is probably the best eventhough i havent had any experiences of having keyboards😅
i like my keyboard LOUD i want my neighbours to hear that im busy typing
I got a $40 black web Keyboard like 6 years ago, still use it to this day. I’m missing the 2 key on the keypad somehow but it works.
I've got blues switches and my bedroom is next to the living room and all they hear is clicking
I always play in a computer café. When I finally able to buy a. Computer and a mechanical keyboard I wasn't used to the feeling. Sooooo... I switch the switches on my keyboard to the one on the computer café I always go too.
my first keyboard, i got blues. I didnt know how loud they were 😅
If Glarses the keyboard lord says it's bad;;; it's bad...
love these things but when the guy with a bad mic and one of those starts spitting coms, idk if the enemies are 2 clicks north or what!?
I love how the first vlip is Hamaji Neos 's HentAi keyboard
analog switches: exists but not mentioned
i need that first keyboars for no particular reason
just bought the corsair k70 lux with cherry mx blue switches . i dont get it i got a bad copy or the blue switches are just hard to press i feel like im making effort to press the keys
I didnt think the colors meant anything when i was buying my first keyboard so i picked blue 💀
Man I just want a silent keyboard
I love getting hearing damage when I type too long of a paragraph mid match.
I only use blue switches for enter and space bar (might get a few more just for esc, caps lock, and num lock)
The rest of the switches that I use are brown switches, red, and black switches (red and black switches are for WASD)
I usually use linear for gaming and clicky for typing.
Which ones best for gaming? I don’t mind noise i need performance.
red or silver speed for cherry switches. Linear switches are the best imo for gaming. Silver speeds were specifically designed for gaming. reds were designed with gamers in mind.
HAMAJI NEO(I literaly watched that video and im still only like 20% sure thats the right person)GLARSES AND SHOOBS FEATURED IN A SCOREESPORTS VIDEO LETS GO
They have same texture as birch
Yeah cammam is right
i build my own keyboards i recommend you get banana split switches pre lumbed and a pretty afordable board and nice keycaps
Idk why you even bother to show examples if they are all unlubed, plastic, rattly trash boards. Hell, they sounded the freaken same to the clickys from how rattly the damn thing was.
my man glarses made it
Rthe first one is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen
Which one are the switches that makes it sound like someone is popping bubble wrap while they type? No I cannot explain it any better.
That's hardly a narrowing down of the switches, but the Kailh Box Jades might fit the bill for you.
I never owned a mechanical keyboard before, but I do know the different switches, so from that I would say that if you are new to mechanical keyboards then brown switches are the best, because they are quiet, easy to press but still give you a nice feeling of actually pushing buttons and sounds good too
Lekker switches: hold my beer
the facts that you used mx browns for tactile really makes me mad
