that would be great if all the sheep in the pews were reading their bibles and knew if the preacher was preaching the Word of God! So many preach lies and the people in the pews calling themselves 'Christian' don't even know they are being lied to because they have never read the Word of God! Look at what Joel Osteen is preaching. Look at what Bethel is preaching! Look at the mormons and what they believe! They all call themselves 'Christian'.

Beware the ecumenical movement is trying to bring every denomination back into a one world church. Denominations are okay. A denomination, as long as it is biblical, is okay. It is when the denomination sets the traditions of men over the words of God when a denomination is wrong. For instance when a denomination states that salvation is by works (baptism) instead of the grace of God. Salvation is not of works.

All who became part of the church of Christ described in the NT were baptized after they believed and repented. That is how a soul is saved. The church is the body of Christ . . . it is made of the saved . . . the baptized . . . who believed and repented. How many times in the NT was the question asked, "What shall we do?" and the answer was repent and be baptized? Submission to the Word of God for remission of sins, very much like Jesus' submission to the cross.

1 Peter 3:20 because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It washes away your sins:Jesus then sent a disciple named Ananias to Saul to tell him, "And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on His name" (Acts 22:16). It was evident that Saul had believed, for he had called Jesus "Lord" and then spent three days praying. But he wasn't saved yet, for he still had sins that needed to be "washed away."We are saved by repentance: We have all "sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). So Jesus said, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish" (Luke 13:3). We are saved by Faith: Jesus said it this way: "Except ye believe that I am He, ye shall die in your sins" (John 8:24). We are saved by grace: "By grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, that no man should glory" (Ephesians 2:8,9). No one can "earn" salvation, no matter what he does nor how much he does.We are saved by the Holy Spirit: The Scripture says, "Ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God" (I Corinthians 6:11).We are saved by all of these together. None is more important that the other, none can be excluded at the cost of another.

Scott, God speaks to us through, creation, conscience, and more importantly..Christ! Whose life, teachings, and most importantly His redemptive work for you and me, are found in the Word of God. He said “heaven and and earth shall pass away, but my Word shall not pass away”. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing, by the Word of God” Rom.10:17. Jesus himself said “ John 12:48, “ He that rejects me, and does not receive my WORDS, has one that judges him, the Word I have spoken shall judge him in the last day”. These discussions are not contradictions, but a matter of UNDERSTANDING! God wants us to dig out the truth, do the work, on what is really taught! He could have written the Bible in an essay, but it is 66 books bound by a common theme, written by 40 or so authors over 1500 years. It shows the story throughout of God’s workings for us to the end ...with believing on the crucified and risen Messiah as our personal Savior and Lord. We have all broken God’s moral law (see 10 commandments), and are guilty before Him. Christ came into the world to take our just punishment, he stepped into our courtroom paid our debt to God, so that if we trust Him and turn from sin God saves us! You get a new Spirit and heart, and heaven is our destination!

All Jesus’ disciples were baptized including the Lord Himself. I think the thief on the cross as you described was n exception the Lord made and of course those who are physically not able to be baptized as the Lord COMMANDED, He will of course judge righteously. But the crux of the matter is that the Lord commanded that faithful followers be baptized and we see that all of His faithful followers were baptized. Paul downplays the baptisms he performed because in that passage he is rebuking those who are factioning themselves off based on who baptized them. Paul does not, as far as I can see, “downplay” the commandment of baptism, as He himself was baptized as soon as he heard the Lord’s voice and the scales fell from his own eyes as well.
Baptism is an extremely important step in our salvation, otherwise the Lord would have written it as optional. He however wrote it as a commandment, again, He HIMSELF also being baptized by John the Baptist in order to “fulfill all righteousness”. The writer of Hebrews also states that baptism is an archetype for the crossing of the Red Sea: it cuts off Satan’s/Pharaoh’s earthy dominion over us and we DIE to our flesh and we are raised with Christ. To be a faithful CHRISTIAN, we must follow all the commandments of the Lord Jesus as written in the Word of God. It’s not optional. We can not rationalize it. The Lord is coming soon, illustrated even more by recent events. Let us prepare brothers and sisters! The King of kings is nigh! We must be blameless! Spotless! Repent! Come out of the fallen church! Learn to be a king and a priest today to be able to escape the Great Day of God’s Wrath and be raptured (only the faithful will be taken up off of the earth!), and rule and reign as kings and priests to God and the Lamb when the 1000 year Kingdom comes!
There is a judgement seat of Christ! To give to all ACCORDING to their works! Let us run the race! Time is almost up.

Water baptism (a Jewish tradition to announce becoming a new convert into Judaism) was used to show the world that you are a new Jew. Jesus used this same tradition for showing the Jews of a new believer in Christ. The word 'baptism' is used predominantly as a synonym for 'becoming a believer in Christ'. To teach that water baptism is a requirement to be saved is a misunderstood church of Christ doctrine.
Using Phil's story of prisoners being let out of prison to be baptized...what would happen to those prisoners, or bed ridden converts in a hospital or nursing home unable to get dunk'd? Are they doomed to hell because of not being dunk'd? No!

I don't discourage anyone from water baptism but rest assured that it is just symbolic. We are to be BAPTIZED IN THE HOLY SPIRIT...
1Cor 12:13 - For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free-and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
Matt 3:11 - I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
John 3:5 - Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Acts 1: 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
What water is Jesus talking about?
John 7: 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
John 4:13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
Romans 10: 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Was the thief baptized on the cross next to Jesus before he said he would be with Him in Heaven?
    Its symbolic...

The Bible clearly states everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved. It does not say everyone who calls on the name and is baptized and water please stop adding to scripture and mutilating it

This was so refreshing. I come from a church of Christ that believed they were the ONLY ones saved and all others were lost. Even other Churches of Christ that didn't believe like they did...lost too. I left and joined a Christian Church. I am considered a lost soul and was disfellowshipped. My own mother told me that she hopes i live long enough to repent and be saved.

Jesus said "If you love me keep my commandments." Also John 14:21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.(The love of Jesus is conditional.) And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”Jesus also told that apostles that after He returned to the right hand of God that he would send the Holy Spirit to remind them of all the thing He had told them. So, the four Gospels were about Jesus and the good news. John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. The remainder of the New Testament was the Spirit speaking for Jesus. There is only one truth, one way...so If you belong to a congregation that is doing everything according to the teaching of Jesus and Jesus through his apostles via the Holy Spirit then you are a member of Christ's church. Jesus prayed for there to be no divisions, but in the U.S. alone there are an estimated 35,000 denominations, many of which have opposing doctrines. We as humans make errors in regards to Christianity because we take a preachers word for gospel. Instead we should have the mindset of the Bereans Acts 17:11Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." They examined the scriptures to verify what they had heard was indeed the truth. Jesus addressed some trouble causing Sadducees. And like them, this is how we humans make errors. Mat 22:29 But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God."Remember what Matthew 7:22,23 says, "On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Verse 22 does not say "FEW" will say to me. He says "MANY" For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matt7:14Hope this helped.

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath,But a harsh word stirs up anger. Many people in the world say we can not judge, however Matthew 7:1,2 says: 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.It means don't make judgments without knowing the facts. It also does not make Christians the final arbiter of a person's soul.In 2 Timothy 4:8 we see this: Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.God is THE righteous judge...and I sure am glad about that! What I am saying that in the New Testament there was one and only one church, many locations but just one church. Jesus prayed to God for unity. Even in the days of Paul the spirit of the antichrist as active (that essentially means false teachers). Galatians 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.Paul was saying that the gospel had already been preached and they had no right to change it. The gospel does not evolve. He said that if the apostles or even an angel from heaven taught something different they were to be accursed! That doesn't leave much "wiggle" room for any other doctrine, no matter how good it may sound. For instance, by that scripture we can tell that the Mormon religion is false. Their founder said an angel handed him gold plates. Jesus, through Pau,l said it cannot be so. Let the New Testament lead you. Don't believe anything you are told about Christianity by teacher, preachers or friends. So many blindly believe. Like I told you in my last "letter" Matthew 7:22,23 should scare the wits out of anyone proclaiming to be a Christian. Some people say that all you have to do is call on the name of the Lord and you will be saved, but they never read the next few scriptures to see the meaning of "calling on the name of the Lord' means.Romans 10: 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Calling on the name of the Lord means having the gospel taught to them. So, here is what I would recommend and it is ALL scriptural. Make sure your Christianity is established and does exactly what the scriptures say. Remember the Church did not begin until the day of Pentecost after Jesus returned to heaven. The first Gospel sermon was taught that day, so from that day onward you will find what a Christian MUST be and what the church Must be. Let the scriptures alone lead you, don't trust anyone with your soul.Make sure the church is set up just like the New Testament church. A congregation is not lead by the preacher. A congregation of the N.T. church was overseen by a plurality of men that met the requirements of elders. A congregation also has men that are deacons. Both groups must meet scriptural qualification found in Timothy and Titus. The N.T. church met every first day of the week. They partook of the Lord's supper every first day, not quarterly, not annually. They must preach the gospel and the truth of the Bible only. The Bible is their authority...for everything. And it also helps if the congregations that meet these requirements are the LOVING, TRUTH SEEKING INDIVIDUALS that they should be;) Don't take my word for it...that would be trusting another person with your soul. Find your answers in the written word. Pray to God to help you find the truth and study and search like your soul depends on it...because it does.Kelli, you are in my prayers.

@ Kelli Hall - Yea. That is what Jimmy Swaggart & his bunch think. They are so disrespectful about other Pastor's. What the real problems that the Swaggart's have is they have a judging problem & are filled with envy. I used to try & watch them but it got down right nasty with those people. Both pastors I heard them trashing are really wonderful pastors & do a lot for their congregation & surrounding areas of their Church. Jimmy Swaggart is extremely critical of one because he is on President Trumps pastoral team.

When Phil speaks he makes things simple to understand. Sometimes when Jase speaks it sounds like he is thrashing around and looking for complicated answers. To me it is simple. If the Lord tell us to do something then as an act of faith we certainly do it.
