You said it… I mean it was a roller coaster ride after Sr passed…
But I always thought that DEI was going to be a new powerhouse team for the ages and hearing all angles of DEI from Ty, Tony Eury Jr. and now Steve Hmiel… Makes it understand the downfall of DEI. Only a portion…
Sure Teresa wasn’t there from time to time to tell a story or what’s DEIs future plans… I feel bad for her because after Sr passed she was probably going through the autopsy, sponsorship contracts and other things that’s behind closed doors that we may never know for sure… but like I said I feel bad for her because she was trying everything to maintain DEI but finding the right people to help the team afloat must’ve been difficult…

Same. DEI has always fascinated me more than any other team in the sport. The characters, the story, the tragedy, the triumphs, and the “what could have been”. And again, I contend that DEI could have been on par with Hendrick today even without Dale Sr being alive. They had everything they needed. Teresa wasn’t equipped to be a LEADER and she woudnt delegate the necessary things to the necessary people and the egos, paranoia, and lack of continuity ate it from the inside out.

So now you are making new chapter in a different way 📚 PS It's so true - Dan Marino lost due to like one interception never got that ring, never got back to the Superbowl....

When he died, seems like people were stuck, lot of uncertainty, lack of confidence and communication. The 1 person that may have been able to get things going was Dale Jr. Maybe he was too young. Maybe it was Theresa. Maybe he wasnt given the chance.

Steve was put in a position where he could not win. No matter who was the crew chief for Junior it was not going to work. Once Tony Jr went to Waltrip it seemed like they just sort of grabbed whoever they could for Dale and unless you just happen to trike lightening in a bottle and get real lucky you're not going to have a whole of success that way. And apart from that one win there was nothing salvageable from that 2005 season.

  • @hamonryechinaski180

I don't know how Jr kept a civil tongue in his head when Tony Jr was talking about purposely hanging him out to dry AND left out all the times leading up to that, like the broken back axle thing, thst led to the nonsense.
Tony let it all be about Jr and I really didn't like that. Glad this balances things up somewhat.
Jr is great at holding his hands up, learning and admitting his mistakes...Tony Jr seems unable or unwilling, so both Tony Sr and Jr must been a nightmare without Dale Sr.
It's a damned shame. Losing Dake Sr was a disaster, letting the Tony's ego become part of the DEI nightmare (with Theresa's decision paralysis exacerbating everything) with Jr battling the pressure of 'being Jr', being pulled sll over the place AND dealing with the death of Sr. He had a bigger excuse than the Tonys...

I am not sure if Teresa ever understood what racing was about especially the nuts and bolts of the operation. It threw her for a loop when Juniors father died. Because he handled it or delegated that responsibility to someone who could get it done. For Teresa it was on the job training right then and she did not handle it correctly. I think Jr and his sister could have helped in that regard but I think Teresa resented that type of input. For a thousand different reasons.
