I paid 5 cents for a pack of Topps in the early 60's.

I'd be a buyer at those prices as well. I got $2 a week allowance in 1995, so I don't think I'd save for a decade to buy this pack.

Back in the early 80s, I used to pay a girl named Miranda $3 for a handy. I would have been set for a year for the cost of on card. Crazy.

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. And to think that I thought paying $23 for a pack of Topps Finest back in 1993 was absurd. Topps is laughing all the way to the bank!

Getting an autograph used to mean something. Same thing with a relic. It used to seem like it was an impossibility to get one of those cards but now that market will become saturated as well.
I know this is late but I just bought a few packs of cards today for the first time since the mid 90s and ended up with 2 memorabilia cards... a Noah Syndergaard jersey relic and a Robin Yount bat shaving. If I can pull that just from 5 packs in a clearance bin at a local Walmart I imagine there's plenty of relics available.

R W what do you mean? An autographed Chris sale can go from anywhere to 200$. That is one of the cheaper cards in the box.
the acuna worth $500 apparently but still to spend that much when you get could go to a game and try and get his autograph, which would be way better
It's only valuable if unopened and 25 years from now you sell it.
Love watching the Break but these autos should be all number to 10 for the price. Only rookies have chance to appreciate.

That’s what I thought too. I collect prospects and instead of tearing open case after case looking for players I just pick what I want on eBay and get exactly what I want. I’ve been doing that for 12 years.
You're right man. Think about what you can get with 1000 bucks. Basically any rookie, relic, on card auto you can think of.
But you have to admit if you were to own the entire case could you imagine how much money it will be worth honestly I cannot complain I think the Patrick mahomes rookie card Jersey rookie card sold for $6,600 that is ridiculous sick fort $1,000 you could have bought them Michael Jordan rookie Fleer set either way you still come out a winner for certain let's keep collecting

Most cards are base 50-75 more than likely with those low numberings of makes. Also certain cards could be worth more, like the duo jersey signing cards. More than likely get most of your value back in a pack.
I think of it as for some dentist who makes $400k a year....

@@sicfrynut That's what irks me the most about Topps. Nine out of ten autos I pull are complete nobodies. In the early days of autograph cards, they didn't include every random guy who wore a Major League jersey for ten minutes. I don't even buy hobby boxes anymore because of it.

For those who I have seen here that think that this product is overpriced, and proverbially "sentenced to death" due to a potential over-production situation, I honestly don't see it going down that way. I started collecting in 1974, and I've seen all of the smart moves made by the companies, and the many errors and disasters as well. That obviously does not make me an expert on the topic, but I know enough, and have seen enough, to see how the individual companies responded to both "wins" and "screw ups". That all being said, the vast majority of the manufacturers made some huge mistakes. Upper Deck being the obvious kings of the over-producers. Hell, they weren't only over-producing, but they were essentially scammers, which was evident, and still is actually, with the Griffey Jr. rookie card. During the "boom", everyone fouled up. And they did so on a gargantuan scale! I honestly believe, based on interviews with current heads of Topps, as well as with the changes that they've made which we can see with our own two eyes, that they (Topps) did indeed learn their lesson and I doubt that we will ever seen them commit any major blunders ever again. If you aren't aware if what has been rumors, and what has been fact, one place where you can learn about what all went down during the truly blunderous boom period, I suggest that you check out the documentary titled "Jack of all Trades", which is currently available on Netflix. There, you will hear it from some of the people involved with what all went down at the time, as well as those in charge now, and others. As the other companies fell by the wayside, Topps overcame the boom disaster and have continued to go on creating product that collectors want.
There are definitely many ways to polish a turd; and this is one of them.

Yes. One my most thrilling moments was pulling a Yankees quad relic of Munson, Mattingly, Jeter, and Judge, numbered to 10, out of a $20 box from Walmart. If I'd pulled that out of a $1,000 box, I'd be thinking 'now where are the other nine copies.'

Don't watch baseball much anymore, lost track of new players for the most part, dont know who half of the new guys are in this video. Don't collect baseball cards since I was a child.

If it is a "collector series" it's usually garbage. The vast majority of items specially made for "collectors" either don't go up in value or becomes worthless. As a buyer of collectible things, it's sad that many older people get sucked into buying "collectible" plates, guns, coins, dolls etc thinking that they will go up in value. A great example of this is the Franklin Mint.

Um Roberto Clemente was the best Pirate in History so far to date, no debate. He played hurt, he played through racism and helped the Pirates win the World Series. He was a humanitarian and died after hitting a monumental 3000 hits and trying to deliver goods to Nicaragua personally despite his stardom. Name one player in Pirates history that can top that. I'll wait.

I got my uncle's card collection he passed down to me and I collected growing up through 90's and early 2000's got autograph cards and got tim duncan spx grand finale hand number rookie card that keeps going up in price..but my lil son will eventually get the collection..love watching these videos and looking back at my cards brings back memories of opening packs and trading with friends..

RSR Cards & Collectibles yeah!! I like definitive a lot, but for that price there should be nothing but stars and HOF players!
This stuff is cool, but i liked collecting cards in from the early 90s back. It was so much easier when there was just a regular set of topps, fleer, donruss, upper deck, score, and even leaf. Then you just looked forward to getting news rookies in update sets. There wasnt any of this real expensive stuff, or hard to get stuff. I think the hobby lost alot of collectors when they started going this direction. It also elimated alot of kids being sble to collect due to prices.

The Guerrero's card sold on ebay for $735, they were referring to the 1/1 version which is listed for over 4k. One of the numbered to 10 pieces sold for $735. hate it when the over value cards on these break videos.

I agree it is stupid. You see 42/50 on these cards for the set not the whole topps edition all variations. Back in the day friends in school could actually trade cards and be excited pulling out their books of cards. Now its adults paying 1000 or 300 for one auto.

That valdi sr n jr card was the sweetest thing ive sewn all year. Topped all 1/1s and pc ive seen this year.
I know these MAY be ridiculously overpriced, but i really enjoy them. I'm still into vintage cards, but i'm starting to quickly admire these. Probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite ever box/card break video (2019 Diamond Icons, 2nd 1979 Topps box break).

I don't know how I feel about the Dual Auto Cards. They're really cool but I personally like the Single Auto Cards the best. My favorite would probably be the "Andy Pettitte" Auto and then the Vlad Dual Autos.
