Alex, the people at his church reportedly confronted him directly before reporting his behavior to authorities. They went to authorities because he did not change AND they noticed concerning things regarding his kids.
And the authorities decided to skip over the CPS and welfare checking strp and went straight to a militarized seizure situation as though they were expecting to find a drug dealer rather than a bulk consumer.
Because these cases are hit and miss by nature, there is ALWAYS the child welfare context to use as a fall back.
The warrant listed 2nd and 3rd hand information to establish the child welfare context... considering none of these people were intimately familier with the Rekeitas and that the officer who sought the warrant -thought- nick looked high on cocaine.

The issue with Ethan and Eric couldve been resolved and possibly rebuilt the friendship if Eric didn't puss out from the initial scheduled "debate". But, even then Eric wouldve been revealed to be in the wrong for making backroom threats.

I'd agree but the child testing positive is kind of a thing where an absolutist stance stops working I think. Maybe the test is misleading for some reason (not a chemist) but if its true it's worrying. Then again, we also used to (or still do?) pump kids full of ritaline to help with "ADHD", which some websites say is similar to cocaine and amphetamine in how it works. I guess it's a bit less concerning when done under competent supervision like from a trained doctor? Nick definitely didn't seem quite in control anymore towards the end.
