Had horse for 55 years showing and breeding. But why is his ears back, doesn’t seem to listening, when they do that they flick back and forth. And I don’t like the mouth open, maybe a little too much bit pulling him back. I hate to see them with their mouths open like that. Beautiful horse.

His ears back literally means he’s listening to you, plus he was going crazy fast, and his mouth being open was because they were both trying so hard. Don’t comment about something you know nothing about.

@@just_a_horse_life . His noticing the horse behavior was spot on. An open mouth when pulling is escaping the bit. The old timers, who were real horseman, will tell you that was an immediate zero back in the day. This horse has been pulled on too much. I think the lack of knowledge lies with you.

@@BBslider001 nope not particularly, the mouth being open is different from mouth gagging with comes from pulling too hard the bits reiners use are heftier than most bits, this why they hold their mouths open

Exactly my thought showed and bred for decades as in 55. . Western pleasure is worse, they are so slow and low, their noses almost dragging the ground. They don’t run around their pastures like that. Well the ones I have - and have seen of others, don’t - they run around with heads up, snorting and blowing. Beautiful horse. He is pretty hard on the mouth😅, he shouldn’t be gaping like that in stops etc. . Too much curb or too tight a chain?? I just wish the fashion would change away from the bbq low and slow just a bit. But he certainly is doing his job though I can’t say he looks happy. I’m use to horses looking through the bridle with their ears perked and flicking back and listening to you. One of mine use to do a low nicker every so often when we came in to the lineup - like he was saying “we did a good job didn’t we”, or “you’re still there aren’t you”. I always wondered what he was thinking. I would just pet him which I did anyway and most folks do to let them know they did a good job. Horses, like dogs, really want to please people. Ours would follow you all over the pasture just to see what you were up too. One would carry the tool bag around, it was so funny.
