A big thank you to RSO Mike for letting me borrow this Absolute Unit of a LPVO. If not that its heavy, or big. Its that its built specifically to be as tough as possible. I can absolutely respect, and get behind that reason. It isnt just tough, its a performer as well. Very similar to the Accupower 1-8FFP from many moons ago. Glass is good, illumination is good, fit and finish are great. The only negative are the turrets and the slight windage shift on the tracking test. Fortunately once you set the windage and elevation the rest is all holding anyway. So that doesnt really matter...

I currently use this in the Marines. I have been in the shooting world for a long time but I didn’t have a ton of experience with LPVOs before, so I can’t really say how it compares to others but a lot of my Marines like it. I think it’s a good optic so far and it does the job. Coming from the RCO it greatly increases capabilities.
That is exactly what I expected from this optic. It expands the capacity of shooters while maintaining a easy egress into it.
Buddy of mine is a DM, he was bellyaching about missing the VCOG for the first few months of using an M38
How durable has it been for your use? Any less durable than the acog?
You like it better than the ACOG?
@@HariboStarman I've used both acog's while in service lvpo's after, the acog for its time was hard to beat, I didn't like the short eye relief as I like to run my stock all the way out, I own a vortex razor 1-6 hands down a better optic for the money
Thank You!! I was searching for this very review just last night! You're the best at what you do!
Can’t believe I missed this review. Thanks for doing this!
I've got one, battery life on setting 5 is about a month. Setting 7 is noon in the snow bright. I yeeted my rifle off a quad at 45mph, and it barely scratched the finish. For a general purpose LPVO, you could do a lot worse.
Great review. This is the best I've seen so far. Thank you.
Another great review.
Thank you for the detailed approach you put into these reviews
Great info; thanks
This is the only actual honest review I've been able to find of the VCOG. Thanks.
Your product reviews are really good!! Thanks for doing these!!
My pleasure
Something about C_DOES pausing his voice overs for the PEW PEW's in the garage footage in every video makes me laugh out loud
Damn, another great optic. Really cool!
Excellent review! Thank You 🤝🏻
Trijicon VCOG 1-8x w integrated mount + Geissele adapter = 30 oz
Vortex Razor HD G3 1-10x (22oz) + LTW scope mount (6oz) = 28 oz
Nightforce ATACR 1-8x (21oz) + LTW scope mount (6oz) = 27 oz
Eotech Vudu 1-10x (21oz) + LTW scope mount (6oz) = 27 oz
The weight concern seems overblown when compared to its actual competitors, especially considering its eyebox is significantly more forgiving. Just look at the number of people in 2023 running Razor 1-10s with an RDS on top. If this will ever be used in any other situation than benchrest, eyebox should be one of your top two concerns imo. Reticle being the other. So for a 2-3oz weight increase, you're getting an indestructible scope relative to Vortex/Primary Arms options which are known to not be as durable.
I agree, people freak on a few ounces when you could change your footwear and make a bigger change. I’d take indestructible and great reticle over other features.
A lot of people get extremely nit picky over stuff that hardly matters in real world use.
Excellent review as always.
much obliged
I'm pretty sure the VCOG body is a 7075 forging. Way stronger than a casting.
You are correct. My bad
Calm down Einstein
I have one of these on my DD5v3, and it's fantastic. Definitely on the heavier side, though. My illumination is also a little cleaner than this, especially on the numbers. That cross dot reticle is the main reason I picked this over some of the other options. You can zoom in on a target and still see what you're shooting at while quickly and easily picking up the reticle.
This is THE most intelligent design out there simply because the MOA dials are designed to deliver a placeholder zero and from that holds on reticle deliver bullet placement where desired. For me the FFP design would serve for exacting recognition of a consistent sight picture. No doubt this scope is a fix for an ACOGs limitations.
Holy *hit. Ask and you shall receive. Nice. 👍🏻
Thank you Mike.
Спасибо за отличный обзор 👍🏻.
Excellent review as always! You do the best POV optics reviews on the internet.
The body on this, like the ACOG and MRO, is forged, not cast.
You are correct. My apologies
very nice. i would keep it especially since it was a gift.
Congrats on the newborn. These reviews are awesome!
Thanks mate! Much appreciated
As someone else who owns one my rifle feels like a crew served weapon, but being a former marine its the only optic I can use as a sledgehammer if someone has a crayon stash locked in a safe. Really though I have it for an apocalypse scenario. If you arent worried about boogeylooppeepeepoopoonutnfancyWROL I would definitely go with a lighter option, or do tren and lift weights a lot if you want one of these on a fully kitted rifle.
I’m on tren and lift weights and the weight is still noticeable
I like the idea of being able to beat someone to death with my optic if a weapon fails. This would serve that roll flawlessly.
Excellent review.. sai still favored here...
Great video. I have the 1-8x, 32mm tube , MRAD red reticle on my scar 20s. It’s the perfect setup for me
Proper heavy duty scope for a proper heavy rifle.
It’s a literal combat optic and you’re paying for it.
Dang man I am beyond jealous. Been finalizing my ar after 5 years of slow upgrading since I’m married and saving for a house. I just gota good ass job after moving across the country however and apparently we get a decent bonus in March. If it covers enough I am so buying one of these. It would be perfect for my block 2esk build
Godspeed mate!
Did you ever get one of these?
I love the reticle, and the glass is super nice. I think this might be the best 1-8, but the weight is a significant downer lol
Weight aside this thing will be remembered for a long time
The pewpew just kill me men!!! XD. Awesome review.
Trijicon makes great scopes!i have a 5-25 tenmile on my .308
I have a Tenmile 3-18 on the bench right now.
Trijicon vcog you cant go wrong
I own the vcog sco. It's like nothing else out there. The reticle is great and will keep this scope in service for a long time as calibers and weapons systems will change over time. I only wish it had a range estimation calculator somewhere in there. It would make life easier for Marines. Also this is "set and forget". The turrets do the job and will work if a guy loses a cap. They won't move on him.
Agreed, having an optical rangefinder like on the russian scopes or on the Spectre would be great! I mean, It would be THE ultimate Universal scope. You could both range targets and estimate the drop with the mils.
Id love to see a newer version of this come out with a modified reticle for capped use. This is a reticle better suited for target turrets.
@@CDOES after having owned the PLX-C for several months I’m extremely happy with it. I don’t wish I had gone with either of the other optics. There is one thing I wish for (that none of these optics has): I wish the center dot and reticle had independent adjustment. Ideally the center dot could be screaming bright or off altogether, while the reticle could be off, or turned up just enough for low light precision shooting.
@@jamesgichuru167 I agree completely. That was my recommendation to ATI for the SAI 6. If the center crosshair was capable of getting very bright it would of changed it completely
@jamesgichuru167 I personally want the dot as small and crisp as possible. Like a 2MOA dot. This way I could do some range est. with it.
I just bought one, mainly because I couldn’t find one with a better eye box. The optic also looks extremely durable. Shooing 700-800 yards looks like the max accuracy but who knows I hit iron accuracy at 400 yards.
Is that 2 oz heavier than a razor gen 2 or 3 with a geissele mount?
Your target or the rifle were slightly canted. I could see it and that is why the windage seemed to drift with elevation adjustment.
PEW, PEW!
Pew pew!
O U T S T A N D I N G!!!!!!!!!!
Body is forged not cast, same as the acog
Forged from tritium
@@jbloun911 there is no tritium in this optic. The Trijicon ACOG has radioactive tritium inside of the optic, so the the reticle still glows in low-light areas, the Trijicon VCOG has a reticle illuminated only by battery. No radioactive Tritium inside or fiber optic for self illumination. The outer construction for both is forged aluminum NOT Tritium
@@taytheprodigy4388 it was a joke ya broken bot 🤖😂
Just picked up a TR25 with the silly green triangle. I absolutely love this optic. It’s not for precision. I can’t wait until you review one. The tritium is pretty good at night. I just ordered button lights and will buy a rubber cap that fits the fiber disc. Place button light under cap and cap over the fiber disc and endless light transmission while nuclear bright if I want that. I’ve even thought about buying bigger tritium vials and glueing them to the cap. One thing I noticed is the tritium in the optic is so bright I can see it light up the disc on top of the optic.
Im working on my 2ns TR25 review now. Its a superb LPVO for what it is.
@@CDOES for all I need it for it’s perfect. My dream optic is a shorter 1x4 (even 1x3 would be good) using today’s technology with larger lenses, fiber, and battery. But noooooo…. They’ll produce 1x12s that are 6 pounds, a foot long, you need to take dramamine at highest magnification, and yet still not day time bright. I want to see sun dots if I chose to max out the brightness. Still getting a TR24 later this year.
Many consumers do not appreciate or are even aware of the complexity of bringing a product to market, all the way from an idea on paper to a product on the shelf.
Though there is no shortage of shelf critics that can tell the manufactures how they got it all so wrong.
Do you think you will ever do a shoot with hop and brass facts, i would be down to see that
Thats a bad ass.
i have a vcog 1-8, credo 1-6 and several other scopes, the eye box and eye relief is so much more forgiving on the vcog. It was very noticeable at 2 gun matches when i switch optics. I feel kinda spoiled by it and start struggling in awkward positions with other scopes since im not used to tight eyeboxes anymore 😂 i got mine for 1600 on sale almost 3 years ago and felt like it was a great purchase. cons are like you said in the video though, The weight is pretty bad and the illumination is not bright enough for day time use 😅 also i dont own Night vision but suspect the lowest setting is too bright for night vision use since i can clearly see it with my eyes 👀 i never turn it off and i leave illumination on the "n" so i can see it at night and the battery lasts forever on that setting.
You made a good investment. Especially since you actually use the damned thing
Is there any killflash/ARD on the market that will fit on either this or Credo 1-8?
On those outdoor segments when you can’t even see the red dot, what setting is the illumination set at ?
I hope that’s not full illumination because wether you are clearing streets or dealing with a charging hog, you are going to need a bright red dot at 1X.
Just to point out: being slightly more or less than rated 1x is likely due to the variance of distance of the eye to the optic between your test and the manufacturer.
Just like when wearing glasses for nearsightedness, the image becomes smaller in comparison to wearing contacts.
I was seriously torn between the VCOG and the PLX-C for use as a combat optic (leopold MK6 was also in the running but is now unobtainium). I’ve seen all of your LPVO videos and I greatly value what you have to say - you use the best methodology on the web. My optic of choice had to be FFP with capped turrets, and I’d prefer a more complex reticle. I ultimately ordered the PLX-C before you had reviews out on either of these choices 😭. I based my decision on how much some people hate the VCOG on forums, cost, and the lack of VCOG reviews. The small size and weight of the PLX were bonuses too. Now that I’ve seen you review both optics, I’m pretty happy with my choice. I just hope the internals of the Primary Arms hold up over time. Thank you for your reviews, I’d love to hear your take on my decision.
Most forums are reviews of the 1-6 VCOG which is objectively a much worse optic than the 1-8.
1-8 got updates to glass along with the longer body, larger lenses, and better reticles
@@MellowFellowOfYellow Great to know!
Im happy, that you are happy.
I really got spoiled on the eyebox of the VCOG 1-6 I bought about a decade ago. It's really hard to move over to other normal scopes and hunt for the right spot after shooting with the vcog.
I can only imagine how great the 1-6 vcog is.... Color me jelly
I have a vcog 1-6 I picked up used for a deal. It was my first lpvo, and after having a few others, including the razor gen 3 1-10, I still find myself picking up the vcog equipped rifle the most
The Vcog 1-8 SCO was on my list for my rifle, it looked really promising but I ultimately caved and saved that extra money for a ATACR 1-8 FC DMx. I’ve been happy with my purchase so far.
I wish the tree was just a little better on the SCO. I was really on the fence between the SCO an a NF NSX 2.5-10x42mm. I ended up with the NSX for better eyebox, parallax, and weight. Just wish the NSX had capped windage.
I got to compare my PLX-C to the ATACR side by side. The Nightforce was MUCH brighter and felt better in the hand, BUT the fish eye effect of the lens on the ATACR was very noticeable (dare I say it was even bad). The other interesting difference was the scope shadow. On the PLX the shadow creeps in as you move your head, whereas on the ATACR shadow was nearly on/off, there or not there.
I'm in the same boat. Could buy either right now but don't know which one. Why did you choose the atacr?
@@Whiskey.Tango.Actual Reticle, Illumination and weight. Both are solid choices for a general purpose rifle but one of my friends just told me that he also just bought a ATACR 1-8 also.
@@tacticalcombatwombat9694 I'm surprised you said reticle. Not many folks out there mention that. After looking; the atacr reticle is far more precise for a 5.56 gun or even a 7.62/6.5. I think that alone has me convinced. Bonus it's brighter and lighter. Thanks for the reply bro.
Does the VCOG have a Tritium, like the ACOG when it was glow at night if you have no batteries?
Since paranoia set in about my SCAR possibly eating the Razor 1-6 I bought, I’ve moved it to a slightly less optic-hungry rifle. This might be the perfect replacement for it. Edit* with a different reticle perhaps.
You do know the fix for that is, right? Bite the SCAR hard so it understands what eating your optic feels like. It will behave after that. Thank you I’m here all week.
Agreed. This reticle is better for the Accupower/credo exposed turrets.
How does this compare to the NF ATACR 1-8 with DMx reticle?
Those scope caps come off all the time 😂 We got them for our rifles in my unit and every is missing theirs within first couple weeks
Seen videos of Russians in Ukraine and they’re running thermal scopes….
Upside is the tracking to the right with the elevation seems to be accounting for bullet drift. 😉
The is what it's doing
going to have to buy one now. great recce scope or mid-longish range option for a shtf rifle
This or the Credo is great for it. I wish I had a true need for the Credo 1-8.
@@CDOES create a need ;) personally I use the 1-6 and 1-8 for hunting. live in the northeast so your never really taking shots past 300. ive taken a handful of deer with a 223 and lpvo. its great for that. vortex viper pst 2 which also has one of the best 1x on the planet. i think ill grab the vcog for that. harsh weather and woods itll be nice to not worry about more moving parts!

Did you happen to do a vcog 1-6 review?
Htf doesn't shoot ARs?
He lives in New York where they have an AWB, so it may not make a lot of sense to own one with the restrictions that come with it
I wish they would use this "form factor" but make a 1-6 (lile the credo/accu) and do what they can to make it as light as possible. The "recce" crowd would eat it up!
Seems to me the dials will be set for a placeholder zero and then the reticle will be used for BDC and ranging leaving the dials idle.
If you don't shoot AR's, what do you shoot and why that over an AR? Just curious. :-) Thanks!
Hes in a ban state
Actually surprised that you don’t do ARs considering that a lot of the nice glass out here are LPVOs almost made for ARs. Though I’d guess you likely got your experience with glass from the mid power and hi power scopes before, back when LPVOs were a figment of one’s imagination
It's just a ny thing. If I was in a free state I'd be AR and glocking it up lol
@@CDOES Damn, hope with the Bruen decision, you start getting back your freedom if you can't get out of there. Awesome videos as always!
Just got a 1-6 vcog and not happy with reticle brightness in bright sunlight. Is the super brightness on the 1-8 improved, I like trijicon and wondering if I should return and go for the 1-8?
1-6x is a hit or miss but the illumination is pretty similar. You'll have to go ATACR or hope Trijicon will update these down the line which I doubt since it got a mil contract
I wish they made a BDC version for 7.62/308…that would be killer.
I think they were going after Berry compliance and mil contracts with the VCOG, and the mildot is a universal reticle. If they were making a BDC reticle, they'd have to consider whether they want to make a standard / military meter range BDC or split the line to cover civilians who might want BDC ranges in imperial units.
Could you review P6xi 1-6
Any chance you can review an atacr
Is this the best lvpo available?
Would this be applicable to my wrecky build?
Check the Swarovski z8 brt 1
So an updated version might have the credo 1-8 elevation turret and tracking, and use a cr123a battery.
It's a forged body, not a cast body.
Are you in an AR ban state?
VCOG or ATACR?
What do you shoot if you don't mind asking?
He usually shows a demo with a Ruger American .223, state laws are prohibitive where he's at if I'm not mistaken
So what’s your top LPVO atm? Have a 14.5 AR almost done and I’m looking into LPVOs now instead of dot/mag
I would like to know that also. That primary arms 1-8 compact seems to be by many on the top for what you get per dollar.
But I face the facts on my "go to" rifle and will keep a bombproof eotech/red dot with co-witness back ups .I seen too many stories of vets saying lvpos are just not as solid no matter what you do. Imagine dropping a rifle on any lvpo from say 10 to 12 feet, on an aluminum mount, with rain and snow.
Just curious, why don't you shoot AR's?
I almost didn’t recognize your name without Venezuela stuck in there.
@@kevinalmgren8332 😄 Changes back to Merica Christmas Eve.
I imagine its due to him living in a Assault Weapon Ban state where the hassle and limitations of owning an AR make it not worth it.
@Alvin Gunawan Yeah. Likely. Love his vids.
You didn't get the mil reticle?
What's your favorite 1-8 FFP LPVO currently?
Plxc if I'm concerned about weight and size. The credo/accupower if I'm not
The SCO is great and all but tbh most drills I’ve ran in the field with it have been on 1X power. Going up to 8X or even 6X power is cool and all in an LP OP but other than that you can hit up to 400yds with 1X power. If you want to go to 500 and think you need more then one quick twist I find usually brings me to either 3X or 4X power. At that point keep the fucking RCO
How come you don’t shoot ar’s ?
New York
Built to be grenade proof
Can you tell us about
Does it Need the battery for the reticle to be seen????
No, it has an etched reticle just like every other LPVO
@@boygonewhoopdataZZ No every lpvo is NOT etched
Man I'm disappointed with the tirrets, was hoping for it to be high quality.
@Jacob Johnson how has it been treating you?
Are you not in the states or something? No AR'S and no handguns... Sounds like Canada.
If I remember, he lives in New York, so its a hassle to get your hand on either with the SAFE act and other pieces of NY legislation
@@Ryce_Cubed I hear it's not that hard. AFAIK.
Not shure this is worth the pricetag-and I’m not shure having that forged casing and the crappier unhash marked/stiff and imprecise turrets warrant spending another 1000 buck on a credo base-it’s actually ridiculous.
understand why the military had to go to redo and design this overbuilt tank for those crayon eating geniuses in the marines-lmfao there isn’t even measurements and hash marks on the turrets for precise work becuase they know they aren’t going use em/obvious they dont want them fiddling with the optics at all which is an issue for a 2000 optic that is 1-8 and has a mil hash reticle for ide suppose precise work?
I don’t think this is the best option at all for our troops- finding someone to clone and UPDATE Schmidt and bender like dual plane system after TWENTY PLUS YEARS of it existing (and no one coming with a competitive design) would be amazing for our troops and provide them the versatile optic they need.
That would never happen in this era of mil.ind. Complex corruption and nepotism.
Your ar is only so tuff, your not going to be running it over and brutalizing it(it’s not an ak lol) and your def not going to be brutalizing THE OPTIC YOU SPENT 2000 ON, or brutalizing the optic your issued that your life depends on just like you wouldn’t your rifle!
so why would you need a ridiculously overbuilt optic as a civilian that is not giving you the higher end precision features including lightness and a compact frame that we need since this isn’t being used for duty…
another continuation of trijicon not comprehending the desires of the market
Surprisingly it's not that heavy since it spreads its weight around. My ACOG with a piggy T2 feels heavier despite it being a whole point lighter
32oz is insanely heavy for an lpvo. i get it, its freaking army proof.. but. still.
Not bad during it's time considering these has been out for almost half a decade of course now with all these Chinese made compact LPVO bodies their weight is going to be way lighter to the VCOG.
Body looks kind of Soviet.
