Epic footage we used to watch them catch lobsters off card sound road around the bridge area during mini season. Now you can no longer park there was amazing to see...God Bless.

Yes, in addition to a saltwater fishing license, you must also purchase a lobster stamp. 🦞
Hello y’all! Never entered for a give away but when I was giving birth to 2 of my 3 sons I spent my birthday in the hospital. Oh don’t get me wrong I’m very happy to have them when I did! So 7/12/89 was CJ… 7/17/93 was Darren and 7/18/65 ME! CJ is Asst. Director HBO, Darren runs a bank in AK and I just want to fish every day on the Caloosahatchie! Good luck on the drawing everyone! We had to celebrate all the same day and it was the only when my hubby had to just hand me that check! Lol

The residents of the Keys (population 88k) vs the residents of the state of
Florida (22 million) are two very different things. This new mini season day is a terrible decision for our waters
22 million Florida residents are not going to invade the Keys on Sunday, July 14 to take a few lobsters. It’s the commercial fisherman who decimate the natural resources here in Florida and then sell their catch overseas including to China during the regular lobster season that runs August through March each year.
We planned a trip to marathon 6 months ago, and it just so happens we will be there! We are really excited about July 14 Fl Res Lobster day! Great video, clarity is fantastic! Looking forward to your give-away day! 😊🦞🐠🌞

Don't worry, I was diving down there a month ago and I saw close to a 100 legal size in a 1500 foot strip. They are there.

You know it has gotten to the point where we don’t even go the second day any more. We usually all get together and hdd as be s lobster party on Thursday!
Not sure if you're aware but you're only limited to state waters only. 3 miles from shore. The federal waters are off limits for the july 14 date.

@@southfl: Yes, I checked the regulations and you are correct. There is no July 14 mini season for Federal waters. That really limits the upper Keys because all of Pennekamp State Park is off limits for both mini seasons as well. :-(
@@FloridaFishingCoupleI know a bunch of dive boats already sold trips when the governor made the announcement. Now they're going to be stuck diving in Hawks channel or near shore patch reefs.
It is sad that you Florida residents can’t already harvest Bahamian spiny lobster. Last week, in North Texas, and the week prior, I was twice able to harvest 2 wild caught (what it said on the box) Bahamian spiny lobsters from frozen fish section at my local Walmart. 😄
First time I had seen them anywhere in North Texas. They are a little on the smaller side, but I only spent less than $18 for 2 tails. I spend more than that for a 7 day fishing license, and lobster permit (my lobster endorsement may still be valid as I purchased online while in Key west at the end of 2023. December)
I bring the frozen lobster tails home, throw them in the meat tray of the fridge to defrost. Two days later, I split the tails, cover with Irish butter (grass fed cows) the add garlic powder, garlic salt, onion powder, and old bay, then place in a Ninja air fryer for 11 minutes at 365 degrees (limited mess). Add a squeeze of lemon after 5 minutes with more melted butter, and repeat at the end.
I saved $10,000 not towing the boat, and booking a condo.
I’m also afraid I won’t be down this year (first time in 14 years 😢 ), not even after Christmas. I love to snorkel and scuba for lobster (conch republic in Tavnier e is an excellent operation for this), but I am not going to expose my family to the non-understood conditions that is resulting in fish wasting (swimming in circles). There is also the increased Hurricane 🌀 threat (best of fortune to all you Conchs and the Republicans). We will be heading for a European cruise (a little more money, but a lot less effort).

Hey Dan and Elizabeth - the new cameras look good. Why can't you spearfish at location 1? Is it just a prohibited zone? Seeing all the fans and parrotfish at location 3 was pretty.

What a great idea. I would wait for regular or weeks after so bugs would come back in & the crowds would thin out. This actually causes less stress all the way around. Thank you Governor De Santos.

Well that was pretty cool. I think the Florida residence deserve the additional day, after all y'all have to deal with all the knuckle dragging mouth breathing tourist like me...
So I'm coming down in September, trying too get my wife to come also. What seasons are open in September, is fishing any good then? Inshore, I usually don't get to go out. All I want to do is snorkel, fish and have a few drinks. We usually stay in Marathon but I don't have any loyalties there, thinking of staying on a rental live aboard this year.
Any Suggestions?

Looks like the lobster 🦞 s must have heard Governor DeSantis down there and beat feet deep into the abiss. We're the big muttons in a legal fishing area,if so you should go get 1 or 2 for some muttons on the grill half-shell. Before they beet feet too. Your new mask cams looked great, little fuzzy at first,I think it was the water,but THEN EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL GUYS. THANKS FOR THE UPDATE. FULL BAGS & TIGHT LINES !!!

Micky, the upper Keys, particularly Key Largo has Pennekamp State Park and the largest protected reef area in the country. If you’re looking to snorkel it’s a great place for that. Of course the lower keys are less travelled and offer some great opportunities as well. I’m not too sure about live aboard in the upper Key. Key West is loaded with them if you are willing to go all the way down there. Keep us posted and let us know what you decide and when you are coming down. Elizabeth just chimed in saying she is seeing a lot of them on VRBO.

We have seen John Pennekamp but never stopped there, My home screen on desktop is a picture of Christ of the Abyss Last year We did Bahia Honda, Rented Keylime Kottage in Marathon and had a great time, year before stayed on the Atlantic side on KCB
I really want Adrianna to come down with me this year, it would be the first time we vacationed alone since our daughter was born 19 years ago. She doesn't want to leave our daughter alone for a week. It's just hard to really enjoy with teenagers after paying for plane tickets and doing everything they want.
Go get those LOBSTER and get Heiko to go as well.

Not sure if he is frustrated or not but part of the idea is to have divers help eliminate the invasive Lionfish that inhabit these waters. Extra lobsters are allowed for removing Lionfish from the reefs.
It’s just a nothing headline that does nothing but harm the environment.

I have never neb a peoponent of the lobster mini season. That's when people totally rape the lobster. Most of the divers resale war more than they are supposed to. South the amount of people that go and the technology of GPS, it's not even fair for the lobster.
The recreational take is nothing compared to the commercial take which is then sold to foreign markets in Asia including China. A few recreational lobsters does not impact the population at all compared to the commercial boats.
Not sure letting Governors have. Control of fisheries decisions is a good idea?
That is what governors do. They talk to different people, seek advice and make decisions. That is why I’m worth 23 million, because I’m a common sense high iq dirty hands clean money guy. So stop being a hater/ loser.

Total turn off to me to have only for instate residents when the lisence is sold to out of state, definitely a turn off for to ever spend another dime in the state

We saw SOOO many sea urchins. It was insane!
Not sure which sea urchins are getting low in numbers but I see tons of all kinds of them except the longspine. But I really can't remember them being very plentiful since I first started diving the keys back in the late 90's.
It’s a terrible decision for the Florida Keys. Allowing the entire state (population of 22 million people) the option of coming into the Keys for an extra day to rape our lobster
population is stupid and irresponsible. They should even reconsider allowing a mini season at all. Every year we watch the mayhem unfold as the googans come in and desecrate our waters

I ran into a couple of FWC officers that assured me that they were going to be arresting many poachers for weeks leading up to mini season. If only they could get them all.
