Mike is basically the brains of the entire band. Everyone in the band, including Chester, acknowledges it. But that’s not to say everyone has their input

Right? Mike did so many things for the band that was overshadowed by Chester's amazing vocals (still My favorite btw) Brad is a great on the guitar and I absolutely love Rob on the drums, Faint is always the first that comes to mind and QWERTY out of all of their songs. There is no one like Hahn. That's why this is why they are my personal favorite 😊

Chester was what took them to the levels of fame they have though. Him joining the band meant they had one of the most amazing vocalists there ever was.

Yeah the whole band always contributed to modifying and touching up the songs but Mike did almost all of the writing and production stuff, Chester wrote the lyrics for a few of the songs but Mike did the big majority of them too

My nephew introduced me to linkin park years ago. He wanted to see them in concert and he was only 14 so someone has to go with him- so naturally he asked his “80s metalhead” aunt to take him! Love them!

RIP Chester! Voice of an angel and scream of a demon! The entire band is talented. The stars aligned when these guys got together.

This whole show, Live in Texas, was fantastic. It's on CZcams in full if you ever wanna listen to all the songs and watch their performance.

The noice Chester made at the beginning is like a scream, but instead of exhaling, your inhaling

I was on the edge of that pit in Houston. My bestie and I effin' listened when my hubby Mike gave fair warning. God bless, this was now almost 20 years ago. 😳This was filmed in both Houston and Dallas, probably just a day apart, then edited into the final products. I still have this CD too, I think lol

Chester was a human sound effects "machine". Mike and Chester both took turns being lead except when in the studio recording songs. Mike was always lead at the studio and the rapping. Joe was lead when filming music videos. Chester was the lead when it came to the scraming. Chester had many different sides to his voice. Chester could sing a soft song and then sing a really heavy, loud rock song next and have no problems with his voice.
You think Chester switching back and forth between his screaming and singing voice is crazy during this performance you should watch QWERTY live Summer Sonic 2006. It is crazy with Chester's control over his voice is even more extreme.

I saw Linkin Park at the end of 2014 in London at the O2 Arena. Chester could recreate every effect they put into their music at the live shows. To say it sounded super cool and mind blowing was an understatement.

I don't know why I didn't see this in my notifications before today, but I'm glad I finally did! This performance is so amazing.
Chester might in many ways be the face, or voice, to the band that people recognize, but Mike Shinoda is a major driving force behind the band. They nicknamed Mike "The Glue", and in many ways he really was, having a hand in almost every aspect of the band, and socially knitting them all together.

Chester has one of the most beautiful voices ever and the best screams too and Mike can rap with the best of them! Go down the rabbit hole that is linkin park.

I didn't get a notification on this! My favorite!!! Mike, and Rob really started the band after getting Joe and Brad to join and they were in L.A and Chester was in Arizona and by an odd conversation between 2 people got the band to contact Chester.

How you don’t have comments/views on this is crazy. This is one of their best performances. And Mike is the one who created the group originally. Chester was brought on last. There’s documentaries all over CZcams about. Good vid btw gang🖤

You should also check out "Papercut" from that same show, probably my favorite from the whole DVD. Although, there's not a bad song from that show, I think every one is better than it's album version. I used to throw the DVD on when I was home alone, crank up the surround sound and play my bass with them for the whole set. Good times...

I will also suggest for some newer, next-phase stuff, find Mike's song "fine." Very Nine Inch Nails-influenced. Post-Traumatic was the whole EP then album that came out to cope with Chester's death, and "fine" is after that, more polished and the evolution they've been through over the years is very apparent there. So many styles and influences and that's why I've always related so hard. I grew up (as an adult) with these guys...I think Mike is less than a year older than me.

This is going to be a little bit of a ride, but here's how he made that sound.
If you've ever watched Dave Chappelle's stend-up special, "For What It's Worth," there's a part where he talks about a homeless dude jerking on the city bus. At one point he imitates somebody in the bus and goes, "Oh, it's a biological attack, ohhhh!" And the way he said that is the same way Chester's making this sound at the beginning.
By combining a fry whisper with the falsetto voice.
