I teach 3rd grade and I feel the one thing they struggle most with is staying on topic. They start off great and then add random information that does not go with their paragraph topic.
I've been a member of Simplify Writing for a couple of years now and didn't realize you had CZcams videos! This is great! I'm so grateful to have access to such great resources. =)
My students are still struggling with conventions, hooking the reader, and remaining on topic. A lot of the times, their writing tends to start off well, but drifts to unrelated topics.
Years ago, I went to a PD where this idea was introduced. The presenter then though, had kids count the number of words they had on the page and chart it. Just to show them they can get words on the page. Would you suggest that too?
I’m not against this idea, but it would take more time to count the words. If you have a group of students who pause and get distracted a lot, I’d highly recommend tracking the minutes instead.

It’s good to see you over here! I just started publishing consistently on CZcams about a month ago, so it’s pretty new to me too!
This is Amazing. I am working with my children over the spring break and this is a great exercise to help keep kids engages

Do you have any extra special interventions for low incidence special needs students?
I don’t have any specific to low incidence special needs, but many of these are use to support those students.
