  • This video highlights findings arising from PFMConnect’s recently published study “The Road to Improvement”.
The study established links between standards of governance and the impact they have on service delivery outcomes for people. Data from the World Bank, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was used in the study.
Positive relationships were established between four World Bank governance indicators (namely government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law as well as control of corruption); and socio-economic measures published by the WHO and UNDP covering health, schooling (estimated years of schooling), life expectancy and wealth performance (gross national income per capita).
Pearson correlation coefficients were used to assess the relationships prevailing between governance indicators and socio-economic measures. Graphic illustrations of these relationships are provided in the video.
The study also suggested that longer female schooling resulted in higher female income generation when compared with schooling impact on male income generation.
The study findings suggest that national leaders around the world should seek to improve the quality of governance as a contributor to the improvement in service delivery outcomes. In addition, the link between female schooling and female income generation provides powerful support for female education on economic grounds alone. #governance #servicedelivery #internationaldevelopment
