    Have you guys ever thought about towing while off road?
    I say this only because when I work for pulling cable or on drill rigs a lot of times all these 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks were always strapped to a six to 8,000 lb trailer dragging through the mud up through gravel fire trails things like that it seems like that would be a perfect fit for a tremor or a power wagon or just in general. Throwing some weight behind a truck and trying to drag it through something difficult really shows you to capability and the downfalls. For the longest time I had a 97 F350 manual four-wheel drive and never ever thought about traction control or stability or any of that stuff That's what I use to hold the reels.
    After switching companies years later I had to drag utility trailers around at a steel plant being built in Arkansas. It seem no matter how long I held the traction control or whatever I did I could never get the power I needed to pull those trailers The truck kept cutting power essentially leaving me almost stranded.

    • @armslength2618
      @armslength2618 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I worked with a government crew one summer that used an original power wagon, and it was pretty capable with several tons of wet seedlings in the box. But it never pulled a trailer. For heavy mud and wet grass or snow or scree slops we used a Bombardier tracked vehicle and just carried stuff.
      Later in the oil patch there were all sorts of 6x4s equipped with chains, high front leaf packs, crazy heavy grill and bumper guards, and flat deck highboy trailers hauling stuff. Those had the clearance, torque and traction to get through pretty bad areas that a 3/4 ton couldn't especially while pulling a trailer. Sometimes they would permanently park a D8 cat at the top of a hill of a lease or trunk road that was notorious for mudding up, to pull up a 6x4. But you seldom saw 4WD hot-shots in one-tons until after freeze-up or until things dried out in the summer.

    Awesome review as always and my opinion is the HD off road trucks are interesting. The XL Off-road package is a mini tremor/work package. Ford is doing cool things but prices are climbing with more features getting added. Just stop adding to it and give it some time to soak with the population maybe the price can sit still for a little and they can work on some R&D in the background. They already have a load of options above the rest of the trucks. It would seem that several companies are looking at rolling things more into option packages and reducing engine options while ford is still building a all you can afford buffet.

      A lot of aftermarket or custom things can be added to a basic truck better and sometimes cheaper than spec'ing them on the order form for the factory. And later too, if you find you really need them. For example, I'll get a hydraulic winch for my next 1-ton and mount it in the box, to pull myself back out of trouble instead of the electric one on the front pulling me further into a bad situation. And I might install a torsen differential on the front axle instead of some 'limited slip' that will wear out and chatter.

If you are that concerned with the cooler it is possible to relocate it but these trucks cost way touch money to be off-roading them where you could rip off a trans cooler or damage the front diff. Ford does NOT offer the Limited with the Tremor package.

  • @SKiiTTLe5

    Ford nailed it with this truck…Ram missed the mark by trying to make a super off-roader out of a vehicle that is impossible to make an amazing off roader due to its massive size…then they undercut the main reason anyone would buy a truck that large in the first place, towing and payload(and didn’t offer it with a Cummins)…it just doesn’t make sense to try to make a Jeep or midsize truck out of an HD size truck…towing in the 18-22k range is perfect for about anyone who isn’t hauling super heavy daily, and the payload around 3k lbs is also more than enough for 99% of users…and the off-road abilities make it versatile as a hunting or outdoorsman’s truck or outdoorsy work truck. Only issue is they cost around 80-90k for even a lower to mid trim version of that truck with a diesel engine

      Even the regular F250 is a tight squeeze (7 ft garage door actually has a useful opening around 78" depending on how your door is mounted), and this one has bigger wheels/tires. Also, if that garage is 20 ft long (as most 7 ft garages are), it won't fit lengthwise.

      Had a Ram 5500 but got rid of it, the truck was falling apart at 60k miles.
      The cummins was good, although it developed a rear main seal leak at 50K, but it was covered under warranty.
      The superduties have 200K one and 55k the other. Both are rock solid, the Raptor has 185k miles, rock solid and the old F150 has 170K and it is still very good. All 4x4s and all see lots of off road action, I live in the desert in arizona, thats why.

      That's awesome luck with Ford. My 2014 svt was my last straw with ford after it needed a new transfercase and shortly after a transmission rebuild under 90k miles. Before that I had an f150 EcoBoost with so many issues, timing chain, front end, exhaust manifold turbo leaks under 100k miles. I had an 1994 and 2002 ram 2500 with the cummins no one single issue with those the 94 had 230k and the 2002 had 286k. I now drive a 2010 ram 1500 232k and no issues. Everyone here in hawaii drives rams or toyota those fords fall apart way to fast and those recalls everyday ford has a new one.
