    Soundstream, precision power, Rockford Fosgate Orion and Hifonics were kings back in the day. None were a bad choice when building a killer system back then. Great video Big D !!

    It would have been interesting to see how current draw and efficiency changed in the alternate mode, but this was still interesting. Thanks for taking the extra time to make the video.

    They where known for clean power low distortion/ battle back then was between soundstream and PPI precision power...Both set you back way more than any average weekly or even monthly paycheck back then..

    Soundstream and Phoenix Gold were both underrated back in the day, but unfortunately, I think nowadays they’ve fallen from glory. I still have PG Xmax subs, 2-12’s and a 15 and PG ZX titanium amps tho. Love the vids, keep’em coming!!

    High current mode is to run the amplifier with lower voltage on the rails, therefore enhancing efficiency at low impedance with high current mode on.

    What happened to talking about the high current mode at the end? I'm curious of the explanation of the difference between high current and high power modes.

    I stuck with my D and MC series when SS changed to Reference. Glad I did and the local shop seemed to get a lot of them back with a different smell. Lol. What exactly does flipping the switch do?

    • @cmmckinney77
      @cmmckinney77 Před 18 dny +1

      You were smart to hold onto the predecessor amps. Reference 300’s and Reference 500’s were terribly unreliable. Reference 200’s were fairly bulletproof, however. Flipping the switch changes the rail voltage to allow the amp to maximize power output into either high impedance or low impedance loads.

      Looking at just power versus listening to this amps sound quality.....then you're just gonna miss out on a lot of great amps plus the whole reason amplifiers are actually made.
      Oh yeah, this amp is from 1993! 30 years old!
      Most amps made in 2023 will barely survive to even turn on in 5 years from now!
      So a 20% loss in rated power over 3 decades isn't to bad in my opinion......😄
