    It isn't just the brushwork and color that makes Sorolla's work amazing; it's the style of that era when good taste was seen in everything. The buildings, the fashions, everything had beauty, and that contributes a lot to the look of all good paintings of his time.

    Sorolla demonstrates a greater freedom of painting than we do 118 years later-it is like we are in the dark ages looking back on a more enlightened time.

      ..lol.... good remark Joyce. For Sorolla, Sargent, Monet, Beaux...etc. It was about the impression first. Once locked in, they implement colour. Every artist had their own unique way of being a colourist.

      @@nickfanzo the majority today are stuck trying for photorealistic drawings of celebrities and close ups of eyeballs.

      @@-qj6ps Finally someone besides me noticed. How I hate that stuff. Every eyelash, every hair on the skin. Great art has never been about something as superficial as texture.
