It seems many people are nostalgic of the past. Despite all the problems, our country is better now than in the past. When I was young growing up in Addis Ababa, it was common to see an adult with torn cloths where his rear was exposed. It was common to see a beggars with horrible diseases begging on the side streets of Addis Ababa. For example, you will see someone with Elephantasus disease begging on the side street showing his huge swollen leg. In late 70's, I had travelled to the north of the country. I was shocked to see people living like cave people where they were barely dressed with animal hide in the cold weather of the highlands. I passed through the North western part of Ethiopia in 1979 EC, the area called Wolqyit. There were actually kidnapping and enslaving of people going on in some areas. Slavery in 20th Century! People from the Kunama ethinic group were always afraid of being kidnapped by Highlanders. The women always go in a group when they go out to fetch water. There has been progress in Ethiopia despite all the problems. Today is better than yesterday.
It’s the footprint of the past generation we see here speaking French and having to Learn abroad that have contributed to uneducated young people today. Had they turned the white mans education to helping their fellow people it would have been a different story past generation during king menelik regime gave brith to a fruitful and successful young people during the 1963 because their unit and love for their country.

Those who understood this during the past 27 years maybe free from the chain but it's sad to know that a great number are victims. The way forward for Ethiopians is to develop the current younger generation with love and thoughtfulness so they can be productive citizens.
