The problem with any fire anywhere relates to its capacity to spread and cause damage, and this is a universal rule. Fire intensity can be an issue, but it's relative, as fires from candles cause dozens of houses to burn down in Australia every year. Another point relates to battery technology. LFP batteries are nowadays the norm, and these do not pose the same risk as lithium ternary batteries. Most risk of onboard fires is found in an engine room, despite the fact that bunker fuel is very hard to ignite.

good morning, it looks as if damaged and undamaged vehicles are selected here, regardless of whether they are HV or not. I'm not sure, but the deckhands wouldn't simply push a "burning" HV car through the ship to put it out on the quay. It looks more like a precautionary measure to me, the vehicle looked intact "underneath" but damaged on top. For me it seems that only damaged vehicles, for safety reasons, are unloaded with the help of the water container and undamaged ones are not/are simply parked. A damaged conventional car would therefore also have to be treated specially, after all it contains oils and fire accelerators that can escape. You all have fun speculating and working out gloomy speculations. 👋

Generell: wenn Zellen entladen sind dann können die sich nicht "einfach" wieder selbst entzünden. Wahrscheinlicher ist hier, die haben mit den Einfüllen von Wasser einen Kurzschluss verursacht weil sie vorher das Hochvoltsystem NICHT getrennt hatten. Dafür gibt es Prozeduren und wird in den Rettungsdatenblätter der jeweiligen Autos (auch Verbrenner) beschrieben. Man konnte gut sehen das der Wagen am Haken keinerlei Anzeichen eines aktiven Brandes erkennbar war. Erst im Container mit Eintritt von Wasser fing er an zu qualmen.
Zusammengefasst: die Menschheit kann weder mit verunfallten eAutos und in zwischen auch nicht mehr mit Verbrennern umgehen. Und mit Pferden und Tieren auch nicht mehr. Was tun wir Menschen dann noch hier auf den Planeten?
Ich denke mal, dass die Leute wissen was sie tun. Aber sie werden sehr wahrscheinlich mit einer Wärmebildkamera das ganze betrachten und haben wohl gemerkt, dass die sich aufheizen. So wie das Auto aussieht, wurde das da ganz schön warm und als sie wohl losgefahren sind, wird wohl irgendwas durchgegangen sein. Und da das Fahrzeug eh verloren sein wird, hat man es sicher einfach ins Wasser gepackt und so das Risiko minimiert. Ist doch eh ein Wunder, dass man da noch Fahrzeuge von bergen kann, da spielt das nun auch keine Rolle.
@@skayofox Ich glaube eher sie machen sich so wenig Arbeit wie möglich. Da der Wagen eh Schrott war ab ins Wasser ohne vorher die High Power Leitungen zu trennen und auch nicht den 12V Akku zu entfernen. Alleine der 12V Akku macht ordentlich Alarm bei Kurzschluss durch Wasser.

Ik vind het vooral gek dat sommige mannetjes met helm en gasmasker rondlopen, en anderen gewoon zonder helm naast een uitgebrande auto die in een kraan staat.
Dat komt omdat dit schip grotendeels een gesloten ruimte is en bepaalde gassen, dampen en voc's kunnen blijven hangen. Zelfs containers die overzee worden verplaatst met bijvoorbeeld veel kunstof producten kunnen zeer schadelijke stoffen uitdampen. Wanneer je dus in een warehouse werkt waar veel van dit soort producten aan het pand gelost worden dan kun je vergif op innemen dat de medewerkers allemaal op latere leeftijd iets kunnen oplopen, daarom perslucht of een gelaatsmasker. Succes!

This is not to say electric cars are bad, but the physics are important. Both types of cars catch fire, but only electric ones are impossible to extinguish.
You don't need a arsenal to extinguish a petrol car. A water hose will do. Or a simple fire extinguisher 🧯 batteries are like little bombs that keeps exploding. I don't see a future for it.

I am an retired all-round fully licenced marine engineer CSI surveyor auditor and marine and oil industry fire fighter till 48 than became a 500 ton Captain until 66. This car hoisted out did not burn but covered in acidic soot on the top the bottom is still clean the tires did not exploded and they fit nylon slings on the rims to lift it. When it was still hot from the fire these would melt, than they lift in in a container full of water and create a full short circuit hence the smoke, if they parked it in the free area nothing would happen. This looks like indoctrinating public and you stept right in the trap, sory to say so.
The containers are empty when they lower the cars in. The water comes after. The car was already smoldering so that is why they put it in the container. The problem with thermal run away is that the rest of the car can look fine until the battery goes off.
To me also, this stunt with the car in the bathtub looked like either a theatrical performance or a clown show where the onlooker has to wonder if they're really qualified to do this job. I hope it's neither.
@@burgienl Thermal runaway is fast and carries through until there is no "energy" left to add oxygen. So you are completely wrong in this case as if runaway occurred, it would have ceases ages ago and the car would not exist.
Wanna bet that the dealers who get these salvaged cars never reveal that tidbit to the perspective new owners? I very much doubt we will ever really know what the cause was. The EV industry will do all it can to bury the facts if it turns out that this was caused by a burning EV.

Und die Reifen inklusive der Felgen sind auch nicht beschädigt, die hätten bei einer Unterbodenhitze Beschädigungen aufweisen müssen. Was soll diese Show bewirken? Warum fängt der Mercedes erst an zu qualmen als er in den Container gestellt wurde?
Kann sein, das die Belüftungsstopfen gezogen wurden und im Container Salzwasser ist um ihn schnell zu entladen. Das wäre das Standardverfahren für eine unklare Beschädigungslage.
Die Akkus können immer wieder Feuer fangen, daher stellt man das komplette Auto in einen mit Wasser gefüllten Container. Macht auch die Feuerwehr so, mit E-Autos, Plug-In Hybriden, Hybriden wahrscheinlich auch, aber bei Vollhybrid man theoretisch eben kurz den Akku ausbauen, bevor man einen ganzen Container belegen muss.
@@alphab3ta Ich bin bei der Feuerwehr - ehrlich? Solange der lokale Schrotti die Autos abholt gilt: Der stellt die Dinger in ne Ecke vom Platz wo nix schiefgehen kann und gut. Es gibt einen überregionalen Schlepper mit Wassersack für schwere Fälle wo wirklich den Akku hochgeht, aber den haben wir noch nicht gebraucht. Bei Autos wo das möglich ist würden wir den Akku direkt durch die Stöpsel fluten - Renault etwa hat das ordentlich dokumentiert. Alles halb so wild in der Praxis.
na gut, wenn es solche Stöpsel gibt und das Wasser nicht so schnell verdampft... ich habe auch noch nicht so oft von Container Einsätzen gelesen aber wie oft wird schon gezeigt, wo die E-Autos dann hinkommen. In den meisten Fällen nicht.

Klopt, maar met een beetje mazzel is je parkeergarage zo gebouwd, dat die tijdens een zomers buitje helemaal volloopt. Dan is de brand ook makkelijker te blussen.
Schlaumeier, wenn es auf dem Schiff gebrannt hatte, kann nicht mehr unterschieden werden zwischen E Autos und Benzinern, da wird der Feuerloeschschlauch nur draufgehalten.. Wenn dadurch ein Kurzschluss bei einem E Auto entstand, ist ein E Auto vom normalen Transport ausgeschlossen, kann nicht mehr mit anderen Guetern (Autos) zusammen transportiert werden. E Autos sind eine Zeitbombe, wo auch immer... Kein Verbrenner ist so gefaehrlich wie ein E Auto mit seiner LEAD Batterie, dieser Schiffsunfall ist der Beweiss... Das Problem ist nicht das E Auto an sich (ein E Motor entzuendet sich nicht), es ist die Batterie mit der Elektronik. Man erzeugt elektronisch Hochsapannungen um den E Motor mit drei Phasen Wechselstrom antreiben zu koennen, nur so koennen die hohen Leistungen erzeugt werden, wenn da etwas schief lauft, ist die Hoelle los. Wenn man nur eine kleine 1,5 Volt LEAD Zelle kurzschliesst, werden die Anschlussfahnen zum gluehen gebracht, was man selbst ausprobieren kann, mit einer 1,5 V Zelle aus einem Laptop (vom Flohmarkt)z.B. Selbst wenn man eine 12 V Autobatterie kurzschliesst kommt es nur zum Funken, aber nie zum gluehen des Kurzschlussdrahtes. Die gespeicherte Chemische Energie in einer LEAD Zelle ist gigantisch, beinahe unglaublich, aber schwer zu beherrschen. Das E Auto an sich die Zukunft, aber die Batterietechnik steckt noch in den Kinderschuhen, beinahe teuflisch.... Bin Elektrospezialist (mehr Starkstrom) seit ueber 60 Jahren, seit meiner Kindheit, 30 Jahre auf Seeschiffen, auch Container...auch Autotransporter(RoRo), ich habe mit LEAD Batt. von Kameras und Laptops (vom Flohmarkt) experimentiert. @@joepvlogs1046 De auto begon te roken toen de container gevuld werd met water. Je gooit tenslotte ook een aangesloten tosti ijzer in de badkuip. Eerste ding wat bij een elektrische auto met schade doet is de hoog voltage lus doorknippen en dan ga je pas verder. Op deze manier staat er nergens meer 400 volt op behalve de accu en reduceer je het risico tot een minimum.
Was soll das jetzt schon wieder aussagen. Man sieht ein Auto das offensichtlich einem Brand ausgesetzt war. Ja. Es ist derzeitiger Standart den Akku 14 Tage zu lagern am besten in einer Wanne mit Wasser zum kühlen um sicher zu stellen das alle Reaktionen abgeschlossen sind. Mir sieht es aber nicht danach aus das der Akku im Vorfeld schon brannte. Dieses gebäsche E-Auto gegen Verbrenner hilft keinem. Es sind seit 2017 10 Autocarrier in Flamen aufgegangen und zum Teil gesunken auf denen keine E-Autos waren. Es kann auch kurzen in der Elektronik geben. Es explodieren ja auch nicht ständig Benzintanks nur weil Benzin hoch explosiv ist. Sondern der Brand hat andere Ursachen. Man darf nicht vergessen das der See Transport nicht ungefährlich ist die Frage ist wie Hand habt man das in Zukunft. Die Löschsysteme an Bord können keine Batteriebrände löschen die Technik dafür gibt es und man muss sie auch nicht voll geladen auf das Schiff stellen das würde auch helfen. Ich bezweifle das der wahre Grund je raus kommt. Mercedes dürfte sich auf jedenfall über das Video nicht freuen.
SOLAS wurde hier wie bei ähnlichen Vorfällen auf Autotransportern nicht erreicht. Nicht ohne Grund wird auch hierzu verschwiegen, unter welch schweren Verletzungen nur die indische Besatzung das Schiff verlassen konnte.

However, there is a serious point to this, in U.K. and probably in EU there are mandatory regulations about handling vehicles involved in fire or adjacent to it. All personnel will have appropriate PPE which is more than gloves and boots. Here we have cargo in a box (ship) and there will be no part that has not some contamination. I am amazed any dock has accepted it as the risk can only be partly contained and the insurance world must be passing fragments of this around like hot cakes! The only way to deal with the electric vehicles is to macerate them in a closed loop system such as they have in the US and maybe already in EU. To dismantle the vehicles which are merely smoke damaged hydrocarbon vehicles would take a long and involved washing process with insurance requirements that will cover potential injury. This sounds excessive but there is a large potential vehicle component here. Later, of course we come to the ship. I bet it it is not dismantled in EU! It will go maybe even at excessive discount to an area of the world where worker and community protection is not so high and in its dismantling and recycling people will be contaminated and die! We will have washed our hands of it and be congratulating ourselves on our ‘greenness’ and businessmen and politicians will all make a profit. I am sorry but if this happens we are as dirty as they are!

Just a side note: some guys are using full military NBC (Nuclear/Biological/Chemical warfare) suits. That creates an interesting precedent: why are they using NBC suits, how did they get them and is the military involved here? If the military is involved then with what mandate? The fact they are using NBC is very scary for the future of incidents with EV's
The chemical reaction in draining an EV's battery with salt water can release a chlorine cloud. The 4 dudes in full body protection and breathing tank gear were making sure no unprotected people went near the skip until they got the tarp put over it. The Dutch military police has a building in the harbour. They are responsible for safety around any incidents in our ports (air and sea). They often work with other branches of the Dutch government, such as the Dutch customs office, who is in charge of the undamaged / relatively light damaged vehicles that come off the ship. On the other hand i can imagine that a specialised company involved in salvaging all sorts of chemicals off damaged vessels or from buildings like Koole would have access to such equipment. There's plenty of trucks and trains transporting harmful chemicals that you only want to check on / approach in such gear after they've been in an accident.
I see a lot of undamaged or only slightly damaged EQS/EQEs. Given that all EV cars where standing on the same lower decks it is very unlikely that one of those started the fire. They would all have burned to crisp.
Odd that it just decided to start smoking as it left the ship. Coincidence? More oxygen? Being poked around a bit reignired a previous fire? An EV fire isn't just over when the biggest flames have died down for a moment.

That car was NEVER on fire so your comment makes you look unintelligent. If it had been, then it would have burnt to a shell. Most of the cars that caught fire were on the upper decks, and were ICE vehicles. Photos indicate they burned so fiercely they became unidentifiable.

Insurers regard EVs as less a fire risk than ICE vehicles so do your homework before shooting yourself in the foot.

For me it seems that only damaged vehicles, for safety reasons, are unloaded with the help of the water container and undamaged ones are not/are simply parked.
A damaged conventional car would therefore also have to be treated specially, after all it contains oils and fire accelerators that can escape.

Generell: wenn Zellen entladen sind dann können die sich nicht "einfach" wieder selbst entzünden.
Wahrscheinlicher ist hier, die haben mit den Einfüllen von Wasser einen Kurzschluss verursacht weil sie vorher das Hochvoltsystem NICHT getrennt hatten. Dafür gibt es Prozeduren und wird in den Rettungsdatenblätter der jeweiligen Autos (auch Verbrenner) beschrieben.
Man konnte gut sehen das der Wagen am Haken keinerlei Anzeichen eines aktiven Brandes erkennbar war. Erst im Container mit Eintritt von Wasser fing er an zu qualmen.
Zusammengefasst: die Menschheit kann weder mit verunfallten eAutos und in zwischen auch nicht mehr mit Verbrennern umgehen. Und mit Pferden und Tieren auch nicht mehr. Was tun wir Menschen dann noch hier auf den Planeten?

Ich denke mal, dass die Leute wissen was sie tun. Aber sie werden sehr wahrscheinlich mit einer Wärmebildkamera das ganze betrachten und haben wohl gemerkt, dass die sich aufheizen. So wie das Auto aussieht, wurde das da ganz schön warm und als sie wohl losgefahren sind, wird wohl irgendwas durchgegangen sein. Und da das Fahrzeug eh verloren sein wird, hat man es sicher einfach ins Wasser gepackt und so das Risiko minimiert. Ist doch eh ein Wunder, dass man da noch Fahrzeuge von bergen kann, da spielt das nun auch keine Rolle.
@@skayofox Ich glaube eher sie machen sich so wenig Arbeit wie möglich. Da der Wagen eh Schrott war ab ins Wasser ohne vorher die High Power Leitungen zu trennen und auch nicht den 12V Akku zu entfernen. Alleine der 12V Akku macht ordentlich Alarm bei Kurzschluss durch
Wasser.

Ik vind het vooral gek dat sommige mannetjes met helm en gasmasker rondlopen, en anderen gewoon zonder helm naast een uitgebrande auto die in een kraan staat.
Dat komt omdat dit schip grotendeels een gesloten ruimte is en bepaalde gassen, dampen en voc's kunnen blijven hangen. Zelfs containers die overzee worden verplaatst met bijvoorbeeld veel kunstof producten kunnen zeer schadelijke stoffen uitdampen. Wanneer je dus in een warehouse werkt waar veel van dit soort producten aan het pand gelost worden dan kun je vergif op innemen dat de medewerkers allemaal op latere leeftijd iets kunnen oplopen, daarom perslucht of een gelaatsmasker. Succes!

Petrol cars do also catch fire. Traditional combustion needs three elements (triangle of fire): fuel-heat-oxygen. If a normal car burns you take away one element, be it by dumping water to decrease the heat or with foam to starve the fire of oxygen. This is not possible with li-ion batteries that have caught fire because they contain all the energy to sustain a fire within themselves. Put differently: normal cars only carry around the fuel and borrow the oxygen from the atmosphere and create heat through spark and compression in the engine block. Electric cars carry around a formidable concentrate of self-contained energy, which is why those fires are very fierce and difficult to put out. This is not to say electric cars are bad, but the physics are important. Both types of cars catch fire, but only electric ones are impossible to extinguish.
Li ion batteries are terrible when catch fire.
You don't need a arsenal to extinguish a petrol car. A water hose will do. Or a simple fire extinguisher 🧯 batteries are like little bombs that keeps exploding. I don't see a future for it.

EV batteries have all the oxygen on board. Think Hindenburg, but with an oxygen balloon right next to the hydrogen one.

I am an retired all-round fully licenced marine engineer CSI surveyor auditor and marine and oil industry fire fighter till 48 than became a 500 ton Captain until 66. This car hoisted out did not burn but covered in acidic soot on the top the bottom is still clean the tires did not exploded and they fit nylon slings on the rims to lift it. When it was still hot from the fire these would melt, than they lift in in a container full of water and create a full short circuit hence the smoke, if they parked it in the free area nothing would happen. This looks like indoctrinating public and you stept right in the trap, sory to say so.
The containers are empty when they lower the cars in. The water comes after. The car was already smoldering so that is why they put it in the container. The problem with thermal run away is that the rest of the car can look fine until the battery goes off.
To me also, this stunt with the car in the bathtub looked like either a theatrical performance or a clown show where the onlooker has to wonder if they're really qualified to do this job. I hope it's neither.

Wanna bet that the dealers who get these salvaged cars never reveal that tidbit to the perspective new owners? I very much doubt we will ever really know what the cause was. The EV industry will do all it can to bury the facts if it turns out that this was caused by a burning EV.
Was für eine Show! Der Akku befindet sich in der Bodenplatte zwischen den Achsen, hätte dieser tatsächlich gebrannt, dann hätte man ein Brandmuster von unten nach oben sehen müssen. Und die Reifen inklusive der Felgen sind auch nicht beschädigt, die hätten bei einer Unterbodenhitze Beschädigungen aufweisen müssen.
Was soll diese Show bewirken? Warum fängt der Mercedes erst an zu qualmen als er in den Container gestellt wurde?
Es könnte spritzendes Löschwasser sein, kein Rauch.
Kann sein, das die Belüftungsstopfen gezogen wurden und im Container Salzwasser ist um ihn schnell zu entladen. Das wäre das Standardverfahren für eine unklare Beschädigungslage.
Die Akkus können immer wieder Feuer fangen, daher stellt man das komplette Auto in einen mit Wasser gefüllten Container.
Macht auch die Feuerwehr so, mit E-Autos, Plug-In Hybriden, Hybriden wahrscheinlich auch, aber bei Vollhybrid man theoretisch eben kurz den Akku ausbauen, bevor man einen ganzen Container belegen muss.
@@alphab3ta Ich bin bei der Feuerwehr - ehrlich? Solange der lokale Schrotti die Autos abholt gilt: Der stellt die Dinger in ne Ecke vom Platz wo nix schiefgehen kann und gut. Es gibt einen überregionalen Schlepper mit Wassersack für schwere Fälle wo wirklich den Akku hochgeht, aber den haben wir noch nicht gebraucht.
Bei Autos wo das möglich ist würden wir den Akku direkt durch die Stöpsel fluten - Renault etwa hat das ordentlich dokumentiert. Alles halb so wild in der Praxis.
na gut, wenn es solche Stöpsel gibt und das Wasser nicht so schnell verdampft...

Schlaumeier, wenn es auf dem Schiff gebrannt hatte, kann nicht mehr unterschieden werden zwischen E Autos und Benzinern, da wird der Feuerloeschschlauch nur draufgehalten.. Wenn dadurch ein Kurzschluss bei einem E Auto entstand, ist ein E Auto vom normalen Transport ausgeschlossen, kann nicht mehr mit anderen Guetern (Autos) zusammen transportiert werden. E Autos sind eine Zeitbombe, wo auch immer... Kein Verbrenner ist so gefaehrlich wie ein E Auto mit seiner LEAD Batterie, dieser Schiffsunfall ist der Beweiss...
Das Problem ist nicht das E Auto an sich (ein E Motor entzuendet sich nicht), es ist die Batterie mit der Elektronik. Man erzeugt elektronisch Hochsapannungen um den E Motor mit drei Phasen Wechselstrom antreiben zu koennen, nur so koennen die hohen Leistungen erzeugt werden, wenn da etwas schief lauft, ist die Hoelle los. Wenn man nur eine kleine 1,5 Volt LEAD Zelle kurzschliesst, werden die Anschlussfahnen zum gluehen gebracht, was man selbst ausprobieren kann, mit einer 1,5 V Zelle aus einem Laptop (vom Flohmarkt)z.B. Selbst wenn man eine 12 V Autobatterie kurzschliesst kommt es nur zum Funken, aber nie zum gluehen des Kurzschlussdrahtes. Die gespeicherte Chemische Energie in einer LEAD Zelle ist gigantisch, beinahe unglaublich, aber schwer zu beherrschen. Das E Auto an sich die Zukunft, aber die Batterietechnik steckt noch in den Kinderschuhen, beinahe teuflisch.... Bin Elektrospezialist (mehr Starkstrom) seit ueber 60 Jahren, seit meiner Kindheit, 30 Jahre auf Seeschiffen, auch Container...auch Autotransporter(RoRo), ich habe mit LEAD Batt. von Kameras und Laptops (vom Flohmarkt) experimentiert. Man traut seinen Augen nicht.....

Eerste ding wat bij een elektrische auto met schade doet is de hoog voltage lus doorknippen en dan ga je pas verder. Op deze manier staat er nergens meer 400 volt op behalve de accu en reduceer je het risico tot een minimum.

Was soll das jetzt schon wieder aussagen. Man sieht ein Auto das offensichtlich einem Brand ausgesetzt war. Ja. Es ist derzeitiger Standart den Akku 14 Tage zu lagern am besten in einer Wanne mit Wasser zum kühlen um sicher zu stellen das alle Reaktionen abgeschlossen sind. Mir sieht es aber nicht danach aus das der Akku im Vorfeld schon brannte. Dieses gebäsche E-Auto gegen Verbrenner hilft keinem. Es sind seit 2017 10 Autocarrier in Flamen aufgegangen und zum Teil gesunken auf denen keine E-Autos waren. Es kann auch kurzen in der Elektronik geben. Es explodieren ja auch nicht ständig Benzintanks nur weil Benzin hoch explosiv ist. Sondern der Brand hat andere Ursachen. Man darf nicht vergessen das der See Transport nicht ungefährlich ist die Frage ist wie Hand habt man das in Zukunft. Die Löschsysteme an Bord können keine Batteriebrände löschen die Technik dafür gibt es und man muss sie auch nicht voll geladen auf das Schiff stellen das würde auch helfen. Ich bezweifle das der wahre Grund je raus kommt. Mercedes dürfte sich auf jedenfall über das Video nicht freuen.

SOLAS wurde hier wie bei ähnlichen Vorfällen auf Autotransportern nicht erreicht. Nicht ohne Grund wird auch hierzu verschwiegen, unter welch schweren Verletzungen nur die indische Besatzung das Schiff verlassen konnte.

@@TheBarretNL Well I must admit to being tongue in cheek. However, there is a serious point to this, in U.K. and probably in EU there are mandatory regulations about handling vehicles involved in fire or adjacent to it. All personnel will have appropriate PPE which is more than gloves and boots. Here we have cargo in a box (ship) and there will be no part that has not some contamination. I am amazed any dock has accepted it as the risk can only be partly contained and the insurance world must be passing fragments of this around like hot cakes! The only way to deal with the electric vehicles is to macerate them in a closed loop system such as they have in the US and maybe already in EU. To dismantle the vehicles which are merely smoke damaged hydrocarbon vehicles would take a long and involved washing process with insurance requirements that will cover potential injury. This sounds excessive but there is a large potential vehicle component here.
Later, of course we come to the ship. I bet it it is not dismantled in EU! It will go maybe even at excessive discount to an area of the world where worker and community protection is not so high and in its dismantling and recycling people will be contaminated and die! We will have washed our hands of it and be congratulating ourselves on our ‘greenness’ and businessmen and politicians will all make a profit. I am sorry but if this happens we are as dirty as they are!

Just a side note: some guys are using full military NBC (Nuclear/Biological/Chemical warfare) suits. That creates an interesting precedent: why are they using NBC suits, how did they get them and is the military involved here? If the military is involved then with what mandate? The fact they are using NBC is very scary for the future of incidents with EV's
The chemical reaction in draining an EV's battery with salt water can release a chlorine cloud. The 4 dudes in full body protection and breathing tank gear were making sure no unprotected people went near the skip until they got the tarp put over it.
The Dutch military police has a building in the harbour. They are responsible for safety around any incidents in our ports (air and sea). They often work with other branches of the Dutch government, such as the Dutch customs office, who is in charge of the undamaged / relatively light damaged vehicles that come off the ship.
On the other hand i can imagine that a specialised company involved in salvaging all sorts of chemicals off damaged vessels or from buildings like Koole would have access to such equipment. There's plenty of trucks and trains transporting harmful chemicals that you only want to check on / approach in such gear after they've been in an accident.
I see a lot of undamaged or only slightly damaged EQS/EQEs. Given that all EV cars where standing on the same lower decks it is very unlikely that one of those started the fire. They would all have burned to crisp.
Odd that it just decided to start smoking as it left the ship. Coincidence? More oxygen? Being poked around a bit reignired a previous fire? An EV fire isn't just over when the biggest flames have died down for a moment.

Most of the cars that caught fire were on the upper decks, and were ICE vehicles. Photos indicate they burned so fiercely they became unidentifiable.

Good morning, I'm not sure, but the deck workers would not simply push a "burning" HV car through the ship to extinguish it on the quay. It looks more like a precautionary measure to me, the vehicle still looked intact "underneath".

Nee, als je een Lithium brand blust gaat die vaak intern gewoon langzaam door. Kan een paar weken later opeens weer gaan roken en dan fel branden. Wel leuk dat de auto in het commentaar als zwart omschreven wordt. Volgens mij was deze ooit wit, maar nu grotendeels zwart.
