Why do Americans play C trumpets now? I've seen old films of the NYP using Bb's on this piece. And of course, many European symphonies use Bb's for this piece. The alternate fingerings trick would still work for those 64ths.
New York was largely a Bb trumpet city for a long time. C trumpets probably became more popular from the French school of Boston Symphony, and prominent students of the players from that orchestra like Bud Herseth.
@@tptboy1974 Thanks. BTW do all the trumpets in your orchestra play the exact same make and model of trumpet(s)? Also could you do a video on J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio? The 3 trumpets cross over, have different rhythms, and the edition that I played (amateur orchestra) had different articulation across the 3 trumpets. We never really got it right. . . :-(
@@tptboy1974exactly. George Mager brought us the C trumpet when he came to the states. From there, his students like Vacchiano and Herseth started to play C trumpet in the orchestra in the 40’s and then on.
