Follow behind the scene as Gibraltar Hardware's Brent Barnett, drummer Rashid Williams and drum tech Fonz Hedgeman spend the day designing and customizing Rashid's drum rack for John Legends 2013 summer tour. - Hudba
Yes Rashid is a Mapex endorsed player. We built the rack at Center Staging in Burbank using whatever drums they had available. That's why Rashid jokes about "pay no attention to the drums.. they're just props"..
brent is a true professional in his craft.
Rashid Williams is a good guy. Good to see Brent working too. He, he, he. Great video. It would take the rest of my life to afford a rack like that. Peace and best wishes!
Very nice! Must have been cool to hang out with those guys and build a clean monster at the same time!
My only critique? I would have loved to see Mr. Williams cut loose and play a little on the fully completed setup. That would have been icing on the cake.
+MeTuLHeD True, but I think he doesnt want people to think he endorses DW, cuz he endorses Mapex
part One: If you want 2 tiers, but with a tier that is very low like Rashid’s, the upper tier will have to be a little further away from your setup than a normal rack with a single tier. It’s not a huge difference, but will add a little more depth onto your set up area. This is more of an issue on your floor tom side than on your hi hat side. Your two tiers will need to be a little closer together on your floor tom side, so that the upper tier isn’t too far away.
We're working on putting the parts list together and I'll post them in the description. Since it's a custom build there isn't a package price. The best way to price it is to take the list to your authorized Gibraltar dealer. We could only give MSRP which will be (much) higher than what the dealer will quote you.
Love Gibraltar
HAHA! well sneak preview in the sense of a preview to test audience reactions of a finished product rather than a truncated version like a trailer. Although I do have a 44 minute version :-)) Rashid was a lot of fun to work with.
Ultra adjust... the coolest piece of the hardware ever made for drums...
Part Two: If you have a little empty space with a cheater bar to connect the front portion of the rack to the side portion with a double tier, like what was done on the hi hat side of Rashid’s rack, you should be able to create yourself enough space so that you can tuck the 16” bass drum in close to your main bass drum.
Very cool and practical
Yes! Rashid said he'll be sending us pictures and hopefully video once the tour starts.
Learned A LOT!! Thanks!
Beautiful!
This rack is wonderful wow !
Neil Peart kits was twice as big as his lol that a worm up kit for guys like Neil lol
OMG!!!! What a great job to have!!! Can I be your assistant? Just recently started building a "custom" Spider Rack!!! Love the Stealth Racks!!!!
Thank you! :)
This is a 14” djembe. The djembe stand we offer will fit a 16”, but we do not recommend anything larger than a 14” due to the weight and stress the mount has to endure.
The downtube for the tom arm can be cut with a pipe cutter. We offer the SC-PCUT that can be used to cut multiple diameter tubing. It will not cut through the L-arm.
It was a 40" curved bar
"Totally Awesome"! Thanks for sharing....
very cool
Rashid Williams I now remember you now you played for Jill scott In southafrica and her home twon
Fonz!
That's a big set up for a John Legend gig !? thought he was just a solo singer / piano guy singing ballads all night.
r'n'b singer, not a cocktail bar singer.
Lol, point taken.
you should get pictures or a little video of the actual kit once it's finish or on stage!!
@3:48 you said that the excess tom arm can be cut. how can i cut the excess tom arm?
thanks a lot
mine is no where near this new or large, but its not a stock rack either. curved front bar, straight bar down the side, 3 legs, 3 tom mounts, 6 cymbal mounts, and 2 percussion mounts, all multi-clamps, super multi-clamps, super L-rods, and boom arms, and im into mine (from various sources over the years) around $1000. they arent cheap, but its the last hardware you'll ever have to buy.
If you are taking the time to the film process and engage people to where they are completed engrossed into the video, you MUST show the end result and let the finish product put the exclamation on the end. Cherry on top and all that!
What size djembe is that and what size can the djembe stand hold?
I would like to know because I got a pearl export drum kit with bongo drums and octobans what's the best way to put a drum rack together
I would say to go with Gibraltar their products are good
Wait....why is Rashid uses a DW kit now? I saw the Mapex Saturn IV video featuring him just a few days ago!
I was hoping he would test it out at the end.
Because you would love to see a Mapex endorser using DW's, right?
You guys ever think of putting out a prototyping kit to make it easier for drummers with a budget to dream up a custom rack without buying a bunch of tubes and clamps that wind up being unused?
Lance H thanks for the comment. Yes this has been discussed and still is. There are a lot of variables with building custom racks depending on curved bars and multi angle clamps that can be deceiving when trying to build digitally. We get a lot of requests for this type of service and want to offer it to drummers, as it would be a great help. However, sometimes you can design a diagram that may not end up being something that is comfortable to use and end up unhappy with what you built. This isn’t the case for most setups, but is for other intricate and obscure designs. We have to take that into account when going this route.
@@GibraltarHardware Yes, I'm on my 3rd go round, & still struggling with getting things how I want. My last iteration had things where I wanted, but wasn't very aesthetically pleasing. It can be pretty expensive in terms of clamps and bars just to try something, only to find out it doesn't work! I guess my kit is an intricate design. Large North marathon set, and I want to keep the rack fairly concealed, so that the drums are the visual focal point.
odd cool beautiful yes
Out of curiosity, If one was to do this at home, how much money would a rack similar to this cost?
MSH.Drums more than any of us non-endorsed shmucks can afford
Is he using a 46 curved bar for the front of the rack?
ilovesabian1n1 40''
How much would something like that cost?
The custom rack or the treatment?
Custom Rack if you give them the measurements I think is about 3gs.
Custom rack + treatment is at least 20gs. .
for none 'endorsed' folk. . .
hi i need a rack how much will it cost i have a 10 pice tama drum kit 2 bass drums 2 floor toms , 4 rack toms , 2 snare drums i also have 2 hi hats , 1 crash one ride 3 splashes , 3 lp blocks one bongoes and i also have a china hope you can help out love all your videos thanks from arcee
can you use a rack for a 4 piece kit
Levi Sommer yes a rack can be used for a 4 piece kit. The size rack depends on your cymbal set up. A 4 piece works great with the Stealth Rack, GSVMS.
Thx man ive decided to build my own custom one that will go just right with my setup
delicious
I don't think those guy's rated you Brent. You are a world class stage magician. Sorry guy's, you need to trust Brent, he's a genius.
I want your job
a 14 min sneak preview??? whats the original, 40 hours?
lol 1:35 DONT look at the drums...they're props... is that cuz they're DW and apparently DW's clone of gibraltar racks werent enuf?? hahahah long live gibraltar!
pure marketing!,
Even though the DW's are much better haha...
Still don't like those guys.....at all.
There’s nothing not to like about rashid and his tech
When has playing drums become so serious? Setting up and going down to the very inch can't be wrong...hmm what happened to just playing the dang thing
This is a professional player who will be using this rack every night on tour, so you've got to be sure everything is right where you want it to be, else you'll feel uncomfortable and might not necessarily be able to bring your A game
Ten25zerosix my thoughts exactly. Everything is so anal in the world now. And not just music gear either.
