She is just so darn sweet, adorable. How could anyone not love Dolly?
Do the research. She is a high priestess in the satanic church. It's a huge secret like the free masons keep.
There are some singers who can make a masterpiece of any song put in front of them, and Dolly is one of those people. Dolly is certainly a legend in any era!
Masterpiece is the perfect phrasing! 🙏🙏
Well, technically Jackie Wilson wrote the song she sang on Carson this time, BUT she did write “I will always love you”…
Dolly has written more than 5000 songs!
If she sings a song written by someone else, that person should just kiss the dirt she walks on.
❤
❤
Dolly Parton has the BEST laugh! Now we can actually hear the definition of "infectious laugh."
Gillian Anderson is even more efficient for me, she just doesn't do it as often, just in the blooper clips
👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍💖💖💖💖💖
I happened to see her when she was opening for Mac Davis so many years ago. She sat on a stool on the stage all by herself and played her guitar, sang and told some stories. She had the audience in the palm of her hand. She is an incredible talent and as an added bonus, she was just beautiful too.
And here she is in 2023 in her late 70's still rocking it! Even donned a Dallas Cheerleader outfit and sang.
I'm from East Tennessee not far from Dolly Parton's hometown. Yes some of us make moonshine and some of us just drink it. I don't personally know any girls who were married as young as 12 or 14 but I was married on my 18th birthday. I'm still married to the same man for 42 yrs and life is good. Dolly Parton is a very wonderful person bc she gives back to her community in ways that make an important and lasting impact. She's honest, kind, strong, sweet, smart, confident and extremely talented. She's proud of the place she comes from in Tennessee. Dolly is real. She has never tried to be someone else other than who and what she truly is. Staying true to oneself is the key to happiness. Love you Miss Dolly. 💯💯🧡🧡💯💯
Her voice is absolutely the same today. LOVE DOLLY!
I love Dolly's vibrato.
Wowee this rendition of this tune by her unique vocal signature is crazy great.
Dolly's first high profile interview on national television (beyond the narrow confines of the local Nashville media), and you can see how nervous she was, with her arms crossed in front of her for most of the the interview. It seems like Johnny sensed how nervous she was, and made a point to make her feel welcome. She has always spoken very highly of Johnny, and credited these early appearances on his show as bringing her to widespread fame on a national level.
She is always joking and usually not nervous at all but I noticed the crossed arms too.
Johnny made many unknown ppl Famous.!!!!!!
Johnny had a good !heart!!!
RIP - Miss your good sense of humor, dear Johnny.
Johnny was a master of calming nervous guests...
Wow I forgot about this interview with Johnny Carson
She was young and Absolutely beautiful and she still is
By the time of this interview she had been making albums and touring with Porter Waggoner for ay least 9 yrs.. She wasn't confined to Nashville.
Love her, love him. Two American icons, legends, masters of their craft.
Yessssss!❤
No one like her....or Johnny
Yes, those two are American icons, oh, and Johnny, too.
Fun Fact: Dolly is one of the most prolific songwriters of our generation. A lot of performers have recorded her songs on their records, from Kenny Rogers, Porter Wagoner, Merle Haggard to White Stripes
She's so beautiful and adorable 🥰😍😍
Whitney Houston
@@Cathy7167 I didn't know Whitney did, not surprised.
@@definitiveenergy1 Whitney recorded Dolly’s 1978 hit song, I will always love you.
@@jefferydsmith9966 yes! Prior to that, Colonel Parker ( Elvis’s manager) wanted that song for Elvis to sing, but in the agreement he wanted to own the song, or something like that , that would prevent Dolly from getting royalties from her song, so with a heavy heart she told him “ No”…years later Whitney Houston made “ I will always love you” worldwide famous, and Dolly millionaire 😁
You can't help but smile listening to Dolly speak.
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
dolly is just this little burst of joy and love and light it’s insane 💜
Her spirit is so beautiful
👍👍👍👍👍💖💖💖💖💖
An incredible talent and an even better human being.
I know that's right !!!!!!
It helps being born poor, then working your a** off to achieve such success doing what she obviously loves.
One of the loveliest women in music! Helps all! A gift from God!
I always say she is one of the reasons I believe in God !!!!!
@@honestwithmywordshughes3783 oh wow- that’s awesome! The Lord wants us to use the gifts and talents that he bestowed upon us to glorify Him and be a blessing to others! We are his masterpieces! Dolly has such a blessed voice that soothes our souls. My mother had the talent of sewing masterpiece creations that I was blessed to wear. She made everything! Now she is with Jesus and I miss so much the sound of her sewing machine, shopping, and going out to lunch with her. So I realize to enjoy our talents while we are here!
this woman is an American icon, so amazingly talented and a wonderful person! what a treasure.
Dolly .....so pure... So kind.....spreading sunshine.
👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
Dolly is a real treasure.
Carson was the best "Hands Down" he had a magic with people.Brillant!
*Brilliant
Really? He called her fat within the first 5 minutes and she spent the rest of the interview hugging herself to cover up.
I worked with Dolly before and she is literally like royalty, that’s the only way I can describe her.? They invited her to be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame and she turned them down. Class.
She changed her mind and accepted the induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
The fans and artists STILL voted for her, even AFTER she removed herself. She was CHOSEN. She had no choice but to accept at that time. Get it right. She didn't change her mind.
I've always wanted to meet dolly as a life long fan. She's so dolly. No one like dolly parton!
Pure, real, class.🥰🥰🥰
To be specific,...satanic royalty.
I read Dolly's autobiography, a little at a time, at my son's orthodontist appointments, many years ago. Dolly's mama really made her a coat of many colors. Dolly grew up very poor but her zeal for life has always been strong and continues to this day. She is as pure as the driven snow. God bless you, Dolly!
Dolly saying her sisters are very pretty when she is so beautiful herself and so humble.
brings tears to my eyes, dad loved dolly,RIP Dad🙏
She was perfect when she was at that age. Just beautiful!!
And still is!! 😲
No only is Dolly a wonderful singer and songwriter. She is a brilliant businesswoman. And a great philanthropist. Free book program for children. Donates to many charities. Great, great human being.
This show was in 1977.
Awesome to see her so young. Dolly looked like she was 20 yrs old and not 31.
I worked til 11:30PM, I could not even dream of watching
Carson’s Show, had to go to sleep get up early to take my kids to school. We lived in Minneapolis at that times
and if it snowed at night, by the time I left work there weren’t any snow plows cleaning the streets, that’s for sure, had to drive slow and careful to make it home
usually much later than if there was no snow.
I loved Johnny Carson Show I think he was much better than anyone these days.
I loved when that lady from the Zoo came there w/ animals, those were my favorite shows. I started to watch Johnny only after we
moved away from Mpls. I used to call it the North Pole!!!!!!! Damn the winters were murder!!!!!!!
I heard Dolly on the radio.
What a voice, what talent,
Plus all the writing she did.
She has this beautiful face that overflowed all the good one could see in her eyes and know she had a Heart. of Gold. May all of God’s blessings be upon her Always! Love you Dolly!
I am a big fan of yours and I hope you keep on writing and singing always. Bye!
Dolly is an absolutely beautiful person.
I love little Andy and to see her perform for the first time on Johnny Carson, on her birthday 🎂. Dolly is a legend and a good person ❤
That last song just crushed me 😢😢😢 wow what a talent.
“Me and my Little Andy”--heartbreaker right there.
I can hear it, not sure why some can't. Make sure your volume is on? Ty for uploading, love these older Johnny Carson shows. Just a different time, I was lucky enough to be a part of even if I was a kid. Dolly is a very generous woman from what I've heard ❤.
One of the nicest interviews with Dolly I’ve ever seen
Love Dolly Parton and her confidence about everything.
What made both of these entertainers so beloved was very much on display that long ago January evening.
Miss you Johnny.
It’s 2023 and it’s the fist time I ever heard that beautifully sad song.
I just love Dolly Parton!!!
What's not to love? ❤️
Damn good performance, higher and higher. And still doin it today, just an amazing Mega Star !!!!!!! Love this Woman !!!!!
The greatest female singer songwriter ever

Dolly is a gift from the Universe! Love her so much.
What a wonderful human. Who knew back then what a treasure she would become. I love you Dolly, thank you.
A National Treasure ❤️ Dolly Parton
Dolly on her 31st Birthday. Great performance and interview!
One of the smartest ladies.
Sweet lady...sweet voice. Magical.💕
She's just lovely! One of the greatest!
Well deserved success over all these years ♡
Just beautiful❤️🙏
Dolly was so Young and Beautiful! So humble. ❤
She has the best laugh.
That last song was so sad 😢 and so beautiful.
I've never heard that second song before. That's all Dolly needs, a guitar, her voice and her storytelling.
Dolly Parton is beautiful inside and outside to this day. ❤️❤️❤️
I was never one for Dolly's type of music but I sure love Dolly!
It’s funny, cause she’s so prolific in songwriting, you might have heard a song she wrote and liked it without knowing her involvement. She’s a saint and a one in a million talent
What a charming woman.
Legend. She was so funny, could take jokes on her, make jokes on the go and then sing and play guitar like a star ⭐
She is just so cute...
I like it when Dolly sings both kinds of songs. Country AND Western! Such a broad coverage of all the genres ya know. I just love to watch her shows., kinda like when I was a kid and I watched her for the first time on Color TV in the early 60s! That's right! Both colors, black and white! In genuine Monotone Sound! My dad liked that faincy TV and even had a voice-responsive TV remote for that television set. ME! "Boy change the channel." - "Son, raise the volume" - "Move the rabbit ear antennas" - "Get out of the way I can't see it". As fun as that was, I was purty happy when dad finally got a newer full-color TV with a remote controller. 😁📺
To: I mTheDaveman-- Loved your sense of humor!
Color TV= Black and White
You are so very funny, enjoyed reading what you wrote. Best regards and don’t ever lose your sense of humor!!!!!OK???
😆😆😁good story and times!!
God sent Talent!!!! Go Dolly Go!!!!
What a talent. What a woman!
Second song made me cry.
Johnny was the best.
Thank you for posting all these historic shows/clips!!
What a treasure.
I am just now discovering Dolly & I am vibing hard!!!
I love see a young Dolly Parton
She's such a cutie
Dolly is a CLASS ACT ❤
Living Legend Dolly parton!!😊👍👌🖖🍁♈
Great to see the start of what was a great friendship.
This was just before her movie career took off with 9 To 5 in 1980 .
She also teamed with one of the Bee Gees and Kenny Rogers to have a couple if crossover hits
I love her. Such a sad song
I Love Her❤
When she performed Me and little Andy. I remembered that song as a kid.
It was such a sad song.
Dolly was my mom’s favorite singer.
I’m glad she did get to see her perform with Kenny Roger’s.
What a great interview, so funny when Johnny says 'sit down and take a load off', Dolly laughs.
Thank you for enhancing my life Dolly. Have seen a lot of your appearances on Johnny Carson and ALL of them are great.
My favorite will always be Jolene. 😁
Dolly is anointed, God and her have big plans.
🦋Dolly knows just why shes here !!!🎶✝️
I love the second song!
Never heard "Me and Little Andy" before. Wow. It's so painful.
A bold choice for such an important appearance. "You're going on Carson! Good vibes only!"
She stole ten thousand hearts that night, then sang a song to break them. Forty some-odd years and still the fandom is unshaken. She didn't make the easy choice, but she gave broken hearts a voice. And here we wait with breathed bate for something new to take in.
It was played on the radio
This woman is an American treasure, a musical genius and one of the kindest, most philanthropic souls ever. Heroine.
Different time … but sad to hear the weight jokes from Carson.
he wasn't exactly talkin about her weight dear ;)
@@scottanddebranelson8419 ' _exactly_ '
Boob jokes? She would make them about herself as well.
@@scottanddebranelson8419 I’m not being dramatic and he was a tremendous comedian. But he made several joking references to her weight and ‘healthy size’ from the farm. Not only related to her breast size. It just made me a little sad to see her be a good sport about it and then say her sisters were all pretty & petite and she was ‘the fat one’ … just unnecessary and she was and is SUCH an amazing human being, so gifted in so many ways … and her appearance has zero to do with any of it. I also happen to think Carson was way too talented for that lowbrow ‘sure to get a laugh’ kinda nonsense.
@@DoctorJoanieTool yeah i guess you are a mind reader as well as a drama queen. he WAS talkin about her breasts and that's all. for decades when one talks about dolly being "big" they aren't referring to her waist line. SHE made a comment about being fat not him. so stop projecting or transferring the comments. just accept the comments for what they really meant (and always have meant) and move on.
Thank you so much for uploading! 💗💗 will you ever upload full episodes?
Talent.....
🙀How have I never seen this b4, singing my all time favorite song! I even named my dogs Dolly & Andy! This here pic is Lil Dolly-Doo. She passed 3/2020 at 17 yrs old from Covid. She was my heart & soul sincerely. If you know, you know. 🐾 🌈 Anyway, Dolly Pardon, you are legend. Happy Birthday! 🎂 78 yrs young. Ironically, they just put up a giant billboard of her near me & my youngster in the back seat said, “ She’s SO Pretty!!!”
simply the best
Thank you for posting appearance dates
Wow I haven’t heard that song in Long as I can remember wish I knew the name of it. It’s amazing how Dolly has always been true Stood the test of time
SOOOOO SWEET THIS PRETTY LADY OF THE MOUNTAINS, AN AMERICAN BEAUTY MRS DOLLY
❤ Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn are my two favorite singer's of all time ... one reason is because I was raised very very similar to them and that makes them seem like family and another reason is that they're very humble people and haven't changed or ashamed of where they come from
Dolly is awesome! Even though Johnny is a rich worldly man, he really got an education from talking to Dolly!
Had a crush on her my whole life, and still do.
And no wonder. She is talented plus is beautiful inside and out. ❤️❤️❤️
Hello Dolly
"Take a load off of your feet" 😂
Daisy. “Take a load off your 👣 feet??! The implication is so RUDE!! Dolly was classy enough to laugh, and go on with the interview.
I get the general tone of the comment, but I want to know the specifics - does the implication have something to do with her curvaceous figure? Is the 'load' she takes of her feet her behind?
He wasn't being rude. That is a midwestern expression, still used today.
Didn't know she wrote this song! She was 31 in 1977.
Beautiful
Johnny Carson, showing how to be a gentleman when a young female artist not yet used to the spotlight is finding her way. Good for him for not trying to be cute or sarcastic or smarmy but really taking a genuine interest in her and her life and work. This seems almost like a make-or-break moment for Dolly, that if she had a bad experience here that she would've stepped back and kept her career small and local to Nashville. However, seeing the respect and support Johnny showed, it probably gave her confidence to keep flying. Priceless footage. :)
