  • A lot of the music from this game really reminds me of film score, and that might have been the goal. Nilsen has done some film score.

Upon encountering the 1st horror of the sea, the lack of breath, Echo did not cower, but persevered, thinking to himself:
"There must be an air pocket here....somewhere..."
Little did he know of the true horrors of the sea still await him in the abyss that they call home.

This version of Medusa Bay will always be the most memorable to me. It is so relaxing if I play it in a loop, I could say it's almost meditative. I was having a hard time going to sleep (possibly for anxiety reasons during this current pandemic) so came here searching for it. Unfortunately, back then my brother was only able to rent the game for a short while so couldn't finish it but the soundtrack has made its impact on me (just as Streets of Rage 2`s did) and I will never forget it.

When my friend got this as a Genesis cart, I didn't pay it much mind, but my friend also got me into new age/new wave music, him being a keyboardist and a huge Jean Michelle Jarre fan. When I heard the soundtrack for the Sega CD version would be a new age sound, I picked it up, and it remains one of my top 5, maybe even top 3 video game soundtracks of all time.

I hear a little of the old Bladerunner movie, must be the random synthesizer the pops in and out.

Eh, it seems very heavily inspired by 80s era Vangelis.

@LizardGenes That's how someone described it to me. Music by Vangelis with artwork by H.R. Giger mixed together.

@0:18 Found one of the melodic sources for Medusa Bay: Korg Wavestation -> ROM 11 -> 35 Prophet Horn

Wow! To me it's more Cyberpunk music than underwater adventure :) But enyway - its great futuristic ambient!!!

Fun fact: László Szenttornyai connection with Ecco could be seen as both a blessing and a curse, because it has arguably placed the designer in the shadow of his most famous creation, despite the fact that he has been involved with many, many notable games since then.

@Layne Krusz he composed Blade Runner & Chariots Of Fire among many of the most beloved new age / space music albums. he's definitely an important figure of electronic music, check him out. Soil Festivities is kind of like this.
