  • #1057 Marvel vs Capcom Infinite (STEAM) Bosses (1/2): Ultron Omega playthrough.
A playthrough of the final boss Ultron Omega in the PC/Steam version of Capcom’s Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
A huge, huge thanks to user GodShin for the values for this game, I honestly would have never worked them out otherwise.
    ------
    Ultron-Omega moves:
    Qcf + LP: Ultron Lasers
Qcf + HP: Spinning wheel of death
    F, d, df + HP: Double-attack
Qcf + LK: Sigma Eye Lasers
    Qcf + HK: Sigma Scream
    Infinity Surge: Three fire orbs
Qcf + LP + HP: Mouth lasers
Qcf + LK + HK (lvl 3): Super Mouth Lasers
    -------
    Get ready for this shit.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. A boring boss, a boring game, a boring playthrough.
I’m not even sure why I’m bothering to cover this game. No one gives a shit, anyhow, but I almost feel like there should be videos on Infinite simply to mark what an absolute graveyard of a game it is. I’ve accidentally written about 5000 words on just how much I hate this game, and instead of writing a description I plan to (eventually) do a video essay on how bad the game is instead. Words alone can't convey it.
Marvel vs Capcom infinite is a travesty of a game, for reasons which aren’t even really worth going into. The funny thing is, very little of that has to do with the gameplay. The gameplay is, honestly, pretty damn good. I don’t think it’s necessarily any better over UMVC3, but it really does feel beginner-friendly and fun on the whole, and for a more "casual" fighter that's certainly important.
The main issue comes down to design-choices. A bland UI, a bland interface, bad-looking character models, really blurry visuals, and a limited number of characters and choices. This extends over to Ultron-Omega, certainly.
I made a point of showing footage of this to viewers back when I was doing the Tekken vids. Back then, I just sort of laughed. Ultron-Omega is actually supposed to be a reference to the final boss of Mega Man X5, but to me he actually reminded me a lot more of a boss from Capcom’s Breath of Fire II. At the time I laughed, but I remember long-time viewer Vicenpvp stating that seeing something… well, THIS bad, hit home. Capcom’s greediness means I typically enjoy their screw-ups and failures, so it was only actually playing MVCI that I realised just how much of a failure it is as a game. It is somewhere in the range of a barebones amount of effort at the most.
The story mode of the game sees Sigma from Mega Man X and Ultron from the Marvel Cinematic Universe team up to…destroy the world, or something? I’m not really sure. Rather than working individually they actually meld together for some reason, which at the very least leads to the actually quite badass Ultron-Sigma, who I’ll talk more about in the next video.
While Ultron-Sigma acts as the sub-boss of the game, Ultron-Omega is the final boss of arcade mode as well as story mode. The story mode which is the main focus of the game, and which they screwed up because it’s boring and jarring as anything. Instead, we end up with a barebones and pretty standard arcade mode. I mean, alright, at least we have an arcade mode this time, compared to something like Street Fighter V, but it doesn’t feel like I’m playing a Capcom game. I feel like I’m playing a really well-done bootleg, with the same empty blandness and the crappy visuals those typically have.

    [continued from description]
Ultron-Sigma is a giant boss. I’ll say this for Capcom, he’s pretty well programmed. The player has few if any issues when playing as him, he can be used on the left-side of the screen, and he doesn’t crash the game. So, kudos to Capcom for putting in the effort to make that work.
Attack-wise, he’s pretty basic. Some default attacks that see him swiping at or punching the enemy, a couple of specials which see him using Ultron’s lasers and spinning claws, as well as Sigma’s eye lasers and scream attacks. He also gains a bonus triple-projectile attack when he’s using the Reality gem. What’s also kind of cool is that the punch buttons and their respective attacks are mapped to Ultron’s attacks, while the kicks are mapped to Sigma; I just thought that was a nice touch. He also has two super moves; a lvl 1 giant mouth laser attack, and a lvl 3 super lasers. These can be useful if they hit, but they tend to be blocked by the enemy.
Ultron-Omega is a boring boss to fight, and he’s a boring boss to play as. His attacks are incredibly slow, don’t deal much in the way of damage, and if the opponent blocks them they’re usually able to follow up with combo afters. I mean, speed kills in this series, so of course they make him really damn slow. He’s effectively meant to be an evolution of Galactus’ mechanics from UMvC3, but he’s actually much much easier. No instant kills or free supers/ultras, instead you get moves which are simply there to harass the opponent rather than destroy them. If you take too much damage…he’ll start to defend himself and there isn’t shit you can do. And the only point of this stance is for the player to hit him repeatedly, break his defence and then unleash their combos on him while Omega’s defence is down. As with Galactus, Omega takes reduced damage until he takes a certain amount of damage, and then becomes vulnerable to increased damage for a short amount of time. The difference with Galactus was that that the opportunity to do was during his regular attacks, and most notably as the only way to pull him out of that one-hit KO attack. Here however, it’s more or less a given. Even if you used the auto-combo on him you’d break through his defences. Sometimes, when being played as by the CPU, he’ll go off-screen and send down Ultron-drones for you to fight while shooting projectiles at you. This isn’t particularly difficult, and as soon as it’s done he may well go back into his defensive state and allow you to deal more damage against him.
It’s difficult to describe just how boring it is to play as him. Barely any of his attacks do any real damage, apart from Ultron’s lasers which are decent, and especially Ultron’s spinning blade attack which can deal some serious damage, as well as those supers. Apart from those attacks though, using anything else (and sometimes even using those) leaves Omega vulnerable to follow-up attacks. And if you get hit too much, you go into that defensive stance. And it’s based on flags, so from what I can tell you can’t do shit once this happens to you. So if you fuck up, you have to actually wait to be allowed to play as the character again, and probably will have your defence broken and a bunch of damage dealt against you in the process. You know, I’ve felt a lot of those emotions making these videos. Frustration, joy, confusion, existential dread. But I’ve never felt bored before. Ultron-Omega has changed that though. I know he’s not meant to be played as, but why they felt the need to make the final boss not only look like a joke, but play like a joke, is beyond me. A boring boss with little in the way of redeemable qualities.
Next up, the significantly better sub-boss.
Also, total coincidence that I uploaded this on the day Avengers: Endgame comes out.

Ultron Omega is cool to fight (and a reference for the MegaMan X fans), but the HUGE HP amount and its slow moves on the boss battle (Story and Arcade) made it one of the least memorable bosses on MvC history. Even Ultron Sigma has more action and challenge to be the real boss than Ultron Omega.

@@smeehee Blood Storm wasn't good, but it was so bad that it was interesting. It did a lot of stuff which was weird, or wacky, or admirable, or downright awful, to the point where it's not a fun game to play but it is a fun game to talk about, if only for what it could have been. There's a kind of enjoyment to be had from things which are so bad that they're interesting, and Blood Storm at the very least is intriguingly, fascinating awful.
Infinite on the other hand is...boring. It's neither here nor there, and just kinda seems to exist. It's just so utterly forgettable that you'd think you just imagined it or something, especially given how hard it bombed. Hell, at least with Blood Storm I didn't have to wait five seconds for the boss' attack to end before I could use another one. At least the other characters are a bit more interesting, but Ultron-Omega is just one of the worst bosses in existence, whether you're playing as him or fighting against him.

Hey man, sorry, I never got notified about this comment.
Galactus is a hell of a lot more difficult, in my opinion. Both are relatively easy when you know their attacks and patterns, but Galactus has super moves which he can use at will (and can even wipe out a character in one go), whereas Ultron Omega is significantly slower, significantly more easy to counter and to deal with, and in general is just a lot more drawn out and tedious as a boss fight. Galactus feels like a legit challenge, but Ultron Omega is just a bore, through and through.

While I won't say Capcom is innocent, a lot of the reasons I MVCI is considered bad is likely because of Disney's meddling and "ONLY MCU CHARACTERS!!!" policy, which resulted in no X-Men, Deadpool, or Doom, among others. I won't say there's no good ideas here, though: I mean, Ultron + Sigma? That's a GREAT idea for a villain team up!

Ultron and Sigma is one of those team ups which totally works and totally makes sense too. But yeah, no X-Men makes the game feel so damn flat, especially without guys like Deadpool around. The fact that Disney ended up buying all the X-Men stuff soon after the release of this game was an even greater insult though, sabotaging Capcom for no reason in particular.

As a fine individual by the name of Carl Johnson once proclaimed "Ahh shit, here we go again"
MvCI is a fine example of a game that for all its hype was swallowed by the sheer incompetence and greed of its developers, Street Fighter X Tekken feels like a breath of fresh air compared to this trapped turd of a game and the only thing that was fucked about SFXT was (Cool) characters behind a paywall and the choice to buy some arbitrary stones in the hopes you got a better advantage (Ironic considering both games uses gems as part of a gimmick)
You mentioned everything I despise about the game but the one thing that I give out the most about this game is the utmost disrespect the developers showed towards the roster with the "Functions" debacle, I don't know about you but when I play a fighting game one of the things I want to see are how does the roster look, if there's a character that looks cool or fun to play as I'll more than likely pick up the game but when the developers or rather the representative of that company says that characters don't matter, they care more about what they do in terms of gameplay then I'm sorry, I'm not sold on the game, if you don't care about the characters that you implement into the game then why should I care, you'd be best of making a fighting game consisting of Cycloids.
It irks me when people like YoVideogames are defending this title, it's such a real shame.

    • @AdmiralMcFish
      @AdmiralMcFish  Před 5 lety +5

Oh yeah, lmao, don't even get me started on the functions shit. In a casual fighting game, the characters are the absolute most far from being "functions" than in any other game. As you said, a cool character or a familiar character can interest someone in a game, and end up getting them hooked on the franchise. Without that initial appeal however, people just won't take to it. It's why graphics and character design have always been so damn important in fighting games; for as complex and time-consuming a genre as this, you need to have things which really grab you and draw you in. The zaniness of MvC has always, ALWAYS been it's appeal, and I'm amazed that Capcom somehow forgot that.

The problem's more to do with the exploitative and often insufferable practices that are becoming commonplace in games nowadays, and the fact that even fighting games end up affected by them; on-disc DLC, pre-order exclusives, DLC characters announced before the game has even come out, micro-transactions, the list goes on and on. As one of the few people that do enjoy this game, I feel that people like to exaggerate its weaknesses and overlook its strenghts. It is an underwhelming game compared to its predecessor, yes, but I think it's treated a lot worse than it deserves.
The roster may be disappointing to many, but it does have some redeemable choices. Mega Man X, a fan favorite and the single most requested character for UMvC3, is finally here. Thanos and Venom return from MvC2, with the former having a revamped and arguably better moveset. Jedah was a fantastic choice for a male Darkstalkers rep, and he fits quite well. Sigma is amazing to have too, and Winter Soldier is fun to play as. While there's too many characters that were copied and pasted from UMvC3 (some of which shouldn't have stayed, honestly), the newcomers did not disappoint me.
The mechanics are definitely the best thing this game has to offer. Tagging anytime is a great concept and can be applied in both offense and defense. You can also tag in while you're being attacked by holding the button at the cost of two bars, which is nice. It also encourages players to keep an eye on both characters, since you obviously can't tag if one of them is down.
The Infinity Gems (or Stones as this game calls them) were implemented nicely, and dare I say that I prefer the way they were done here than in Marvel Super Heroes. Comeback mechanics are looked down upon by some, but the Gems allow for more than just that. Power can extend combos, Time has an invincible dash which is ideal for slow characters, if you like being annoying Reality is for you, there's something for everyone. The powered up versions have varied uses (controlling both characters at the same time with Soul certainly gave me MvC and SFxT flashbacks), and they give you a Level 3 super free of charge. I'd pick the Gems over X-Factor any day.
Among the things I didn't like, the music is kind of bland, especially in the Marvel side. The lack of arcade mode endings is a let-down. The roster could've been better (I wish more MvC2 veterans could've returned, and there was potential for other great newcomers, but we only got a handful of them). And the down, down + button input for anti-air moves is dumb, even if you get used to it, it is counter-intuitive most of the time.
The game is far from perfect (I do consider it inferior to UMvC3) but calling it irredeemable trash just seems like hating for the sake of hating. There's plenty of things this game did wrong, but despite the good things it has going for it, people only seem to look at the bad stuff.
On another note, the game should have been released at least a year later. It seems odd to me that a game featuring Thanos and the Infinity Gems became a failure only half a year before the Infinity War craze. With better timing and a longer development cycle, this could've been a hit. Instead, it was abandoned by both the developers and the players, and with no support and no new content since December 2017, all is said and done.

    • @AdmiralMcFish
      @AdmiralMcFish  Před 5 lety +6

There's a real dichotomy nowadays where something is either the greatest thing ever or the worst thing ever. Hyperbole sells, I suppose, and mediocrity requires too much context to explain by comparison.
You pretty much summed up my sentiments on the game though; there's actually quite a lot of good stuff here, and I'm still surprised it bombed the way it did, and that Capcom just gave up on it. As you said, an extra year would have done it some justice, and I also love the idea of an MvC game which adds new DLC characters based on the current film coming out in a certain month, keeping it relevant for years to come. Instead, an MvC game, something which should print money, somehow flopped. I'm beginning to remember why I went off of modern gaming in the first place.

Adding more DLC characters to coincide with the movies would've been a great move. Surprised this video is suddenly getting so much attention; I thought interest in MvCI was more or less dead by this point.

    Why do you disable ratings

    • @AdmiralMcFish
      @AdmiralMcFish  Před 4 lety +4

I used to get rating bombed a lot for seemingly no reason. I don't think they really serve much purpose on smaller channels anyway; ratings are a way for the audiences of bigger channels to get their point across, usually because the creator doesn't have the time or energy to reply to every comment. If someone wants to give a critique, positive or negative, it's better done through an actual comment on a smaller channel like this.

I don't really understand why people excuse these videos of being fake when they're watching proof of it, it's a bit odd.
I have a tutorial on my tutorial channels on how to do this, but it's only for the PC version of the game.
