- Now that the ex-Queensland Australia railway's 1460 class, NZ QR & DQ class have all gone into NZ railway history. I wish to shear some of the video footage which I shot while these locomotives were hard at work on NZ's Main North Line in the South Island. The QR's in 1998/99 & the DQ's in 2005. My video begins in Picton & takes you through to a little south of Oaro on the Kaikoura coast.
The Dq and Qr locos were usually trailing because they would sway more than the other locomotives and drivers would sometimes think they have derailed. Plus they apparently had slightly wider cabs and the driver sat further to the side.

And they were also a piece of shit
@@HotForgeChaos what makes ya say that?
Thanks for this Robert. It looks kinda strange these days to see a locomotive without ditch lights. How times change!
Wonderful shots. I really enjoyed this footage. Unusual-looking locos, weren't they, but I guess they did their job.
I can remember scenes like this in New Zealand Rallscene and it's past into rail history,
I neve got to film one, nice footage
I've been supplying footage to NZ railscene since 1997 so I guess it could have been.
Lindsay is going to have some of my older QR & DQ shots in the September Railscene.
The QR were shot in !998/99 & my DQ shot were in 2005.
was the last scene in railscene number 20
Last time we saw QRs in service Railscene 19 mate, and I haven't got all latest railscenes sorry only upto 64 still need to get more but they don't sell them at the Wearhouse anymore, :,(
What do they sound like though their engines?
Pretty sure they had the same engines as DA or DC
Did the DQ/QR ever play lead loco?
Very rarely. They were mostly used as bankers and maybe heavy shunters. Apparently they were very uncomfortable to drive
