24 Hours at Capitol Reef National Park | Hickman Bridge, Navajo Knobs, Cassidy Arch, PIE, & more!
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 24. 07. 2024
- We only had 24 hours to spend at Capitol Reef National Park (our 35th National Park! Woo! đ) and while we originally thought that would be enough, we quickly learned that this park deserves so much more time. But we didn't let our limited time stop us from squeezing in as much as humanly possible into our 24 hours, including multiple hikes, historical sights, delicious treats, and more!

Capitol Reef is definitely one of the best, under the radar national parks. Thanks for giving it some love and attention.
We have been so excited to share this park! So glad you love it too!
Reminder to self: have snacks ready before another amazing Adventures of A+K video!
Hahahahah always! Been trying to eat less in our videos, but we have no self control!
Utah is such an underrated state. Looks amazing.
It's a very beautiful state with tons to do, you could never get bored!
We have another winner folks, fond memories picking apples in the fall there. As I remember thereâs a museum with enormous ammonite fossils along that route.
We would love to pick apples there! That would've been so fun!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I you enjoy Jonathan apples, thatâs the place to go in the fall, honor system for donations.
One of our favorite parks, and I agree, so under rated!
Such a gem! We enjoyed it so much more than we thought we would before arriving in Utah!
my wife and i watch all your trips in and around Utah, SOOOOO, now were only going to travel the whole state of Utah, instead going to Yellowstone for the first leg of our trip.so were using your video's as a guide for Utah . thank you because as of yesterday on mothers day,the prices for gas is going up about 5 cents a day, making to long haul is not in the books us. were on a budget and cant go over that. thank you again.
We hope y'all have a great time!
Cannot wait to get out here someday...it definitely seems underrated in terms of the Big 5...probably most likely b/c it's a bit "out of the way". The views just look amazing. And double dipping on pie...classic.
We had such an incredible time there! We really loved the mix of things to do. We love to hike, but our favorite experiences always include a mix of activities.
Great video!! We are in our upper 50's and want to hike as much as possible. After watching your video, we may have to stop at Hickman's Bridge, kuddos to the two of you for hiking to the top and sharing your views! Headed there in just a couple weeks!! Sooooo excited!
Can't wait to visit Capitol Reef
That hike was SO tough, but we couldn't give up! Definitely gave us more reason to eat two pies đ
Hi Guys, another great video!! @ 8:31, Adam said, "This place is underrated!" It certainly is but your hikes to different places and the scenery help demonstrate what's available. My wife and I visited a couple decades ago and while we did some hiking, it wasn't strenuous. We still enjoyed the park but didn't see some of the things you saw. We stayed overnight (we "camp" at hotels) two nights so we had a full day+ and came to your same conclusion--the park deserves multiple days.
Thanks as always for showing the wonderful scenery you see from your fantastic hikes!
Thank you so much for nice video!
I love capital reef np. It has so many cool trails.
You guys are incredibly energetic and I love to see your happy faces when you talk about pies.đđđđ
Thank you! That pie was unbeatable!
You are both pretty cool folks and I enjoy your videos, especially because I am not a hiker. My sister and brother are crazy about it, maybe someday. Very inspirational and thank you for the content. Happy Trails and give that puppy extra scratches from Idaho! Go Kona!
I used to not like the outdoors at all, but now I am hooked! So maybe you'll love hiking someday too! But if not, we're happy to take you virtual hiking!
We just visited Capitol Reef a few days ago. We made stopping at the Gifford house a priority because of this video. The pies were great!
Itâs a must visit! Weâre glad you had a great time!
Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your videos and found them helpful for planning my upcoming trip...you guys do a nice job putting these together
We are so glad to hear that!
A & K, your comment about Pioneer Register reminded me that you would probably enjoy the Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliff at Guernsey, Wyoming. West of there some distance is Independence Rock, and then the South Pass, where the Oregon trail crested the continental divide.
Awesome, we will have to check it out!
I loved Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliff. If you like history it's a great place.
Cassidy Arch and Hickman Bridge, both at sunrise, are unbeatable! Capitol Reef is such a gem of a place. Plus the stargazing....đ„°đ Our last trip there was during the Perseid shower in 2020 and what a show!!
Wow, awesome!!! We wanted to star gaze so badly in Utah, but we chose sleep instead đ
I loved the Hickman Bridge hike and the entire park is such a hidden gem
Itâs so incredible there! We already canât wait to go back and explore the other areas!
Iâve seen Capitol Reef from the air numerous times. Thanks for showing it to us up close.
That would be awesome!
I think these pies are the most popular thing amongst vloggers. Can't wait to try!
Totally worth the hype!
Those pies at Gifford's are so dope. Had them for breakfast all three days we were there. Capitol Reef is a treasure. Three days was not enough.
Capitol Reef is definitely underrated. As well as those pies đ€€đ€€
I am 70 years old and did that hike about 10 days ago. Darn hard but I did it. Also had pie for a treat. What a great place Utah is.
Way to go! đȘđŒđđŒ we love that this park has pie to enjoy after your hikes! Best post hike treat!
You did Capitol Reef right! Such an underrated park but has so much to offer! Those Cassidy Arch sunrise shots 15/10! So glad you had fun on those amazing hikes!
It was sooo worth being exhausted at the end of our time there to see so much of it! We loved it!
Awesome! You guys capture such amazing scenery, so well done! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching!
My experience at Capitol Reef was the most relaxing I've ever had at a National Park. Definitely underrated. And of course the pies don't hurt!
Itâs majorly underrated! Such a gorgeous park!
Wow! Another amazing adventure! Thanks for taking us along! Breathtaking views!
Thanks y'all!
Great post, love what you are doing, canât wait to see more!! You two make a great team, stay safe and keep enjoying life.
Thanks so much Mark!
Brilliant. Truly amazing landscape. Happy hiking.đ đ
Thanks Don, it sure is a gorgeous park!
Love that your best decision ever is pie and a reason to visit the park. Plus sticks for Kona, happy dog. Thanks for sharing.
It was a great day for all three of us!
Beautiful views, delicious food, amazing hikes...SIGN ME UP!!!
Seriously, what a combo!!!
I'm glad I came across your videos. They are some of the best I seen and cant wait to watch the next one. Thank you
Thank you so much Steve, that really means a lot to us!!!
As always ... thank you guys for your videos. I'm always learning when I watch your videos. đ„° Nice shots, too, of the canyons and views! Again, thanks for sharing your adventures and experiences. đ
Thank YOU so much for watching them!
What a great day! Beautiful hikes and pie with icecream!!
Can't be beat!!đđ
Definitely canât be beat!
What absolutely crystal clear amazing filming! Oh my word those pies looked delicious! I adore anything with cinnamon and apple. Drive safe and take care.
Thank you so much Wendy! The apple pie was top notch!
I love seeing your perspective on these parks in my backyard. You're inspiring me to get back down there!
Weâre so glad to hear that Andy! You have a pretty killer backyard!
Merin Smith Place/Orchard is my Grandpa & Grandmother's place that you show in your video. Our family loves spending lots of time in Fruita due to the beauty and family history there. My grandmother Cora Oyler went to school in the cute little Fruita school house. Grandma's parents raised her in Fruita, her father Tine Oyler is known for managing the fruit orchards. Grandma was the longest resident of Fruita before she and other families were kicked out when the national park was created. The paved highway was built over where her house once stood. I enjoyed your video, glad you got to enjoy our little slice of heaven called Capitol Reef. đđđ
Oh my gosh, this is amazing!!! So happy you saw this video and were able to share your familyâs history with us. It makes it even more fascinating to talk to someone who has ties to the area. We are so sorry to hear they had to leave when the park was established though đ
This place was amazing. I enjoyed every second of this trip.đ€©đ€© Thankyou guys !!
Yay, weâre so glad Pamela!
Wow.. This place looks really amazing.. We have to check out.. Love u guys.. Stay safe. Happy travelling
We highly recommend this park! đ
Great video of an amazing national
Park !!
Thank you so much!
I discovered your channel about six months ago and have watched regularly ever since. Your work is such a wonderful introduction to America's treasures. What a delight to learn that there's a rock formation called Hickman Bridge!
Oh my gosh, you need to go! đđŒđđŒ And thank you so much for the kind words! We hope you can make it to your namesake bridge someday!
The fruits of your labor was rewarded with fruit... pie that isđ. What a beautiful park and amazing views. Great video!
Hahahah YES, love it!
I love that yâall are visiting some of the other big parks in Utah. These last 2 are on our list but did not know a lot about them!! Thanks for showing us more incredible adventures! Btw, my mouth is still watery from watching yâall eat those pies!! The shadow wave was to cute!!
We didnât know much either and it was one of the best surprises! đâ€ïž
Pie in a National Park?!?! đ€Ż Thank you for letting us know! We are so going to get one (or two đ) when we visit this fall. â€ïžđ„§
Definitely get two! Gotta try as many flavors as possible, right?! đ
@@AdventuresofAplusK Agreed! đ€
Love the tripod footage of you both on Cassidy Arch. Well done!
Thank you Courtney! That was our favorite shot of the video!
Capital Reef is definitely under-rated. We were there in October, 2019. We did all the the hikes you did except that we didn't go to Navajo Knobs. Our favorite hike was Hickman Bridge & the Rim Overlook. We spent at least an hour eating lunch and enjoying the view at the overlook. Then we went and had that great apple pie at the Gifford house. It's a great park - one of our favorites! Thanks for the great video of the park.
That overlook has incredible views! And we still cannot believe you can get solid pie in a national park! Makes for a very unique experience. Thanks a bunch for watching!
Goblin Valley is one of our favorites! Have fun there!!
It's such a cool place!
Exquisitely beautiful Utah!!
Itâs stunning there!
Yes, I have heard that Fruita is a definite stop through the valley. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Safe travels.
Fruita was amazing! Loved the mix of history and pie!
I just love your videos! Please keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for the support Michael!
Yes, I was there early April and got a whole Strawberry Rhubarb pie to myself. Hiked Chimney Rock, Grand Wash. Plan on heading back to hike Navajo Knobs in the fall. Have hiked Hickman Bridge and Cassidy Arch before. Defiantly a underrated National Park. Canyonlands Needles District is my favorite. You guys need to hike Peekaboo and Chesler Park in Canyonlands Needles district-best hikes ever!
We LOVED the Needles! We did a VERY full day of hiking there and can't wait to share soon-ish!
Loved the video!! I agree Capitol Reef is underrated!! I wished we would have stayed longer!! Oh man the pies!! We missed them cause by the time we got out of the scenic drive and the end of the dirt road and walked a way into to see the petroglyphs it was closedđą I loved Goblin Valley! Canât wait to see what yâall thought about it!!
Oh no! That just means you'll have to go back and eat TWO pies now! đ
Super excited to go here. Hubs & I are taking an anniversary hiking trip & this will be part of it â€ïž
We loved Capitol Reef! Such a gem in Southern Utah!
Just discovered your channel and we love it!! Thank you for sharing your amazing hike!!
Thank you both for watching!
I loved your hike to Cassidy Arch and the pie speaks my language ! I may have to add Capitol Reef to the bucket list.
Doooo it! Itâs a special place!
Utah is arguably the most beautiful place on the face of the earth!!!!!
Super enjoyed this video. It was really nice to see Capitol Reef get some love. Crazy that you only scratched the surface too but what you did show was beautiful. I agree that âunderratedâ is great term for this park. It seems to always be listed last in the Mighty 5 rankings but you showed that it deserves more attention.
I went here as a young teenager and donât remember a thing from this park. Maybe some brief fragments of the Fruita Orchard but that is it. Your video has me excited for a return trip whenever that may occur. I am planning to hit up Utah for a limited time next year as part of our vacation. I think it is only going to be Arches and Bryce Canyon, though.
Navajo Knobs trail was spectacular. Added that to my ever-growing AllTrails list.
Itâs sooo underrated! I think we had the most fun here this time around (minus the needles area of canyonlands) because it was less busy and just such a surprise! And you canât beat pie at a national park!
@@AdventuresofAplusK pie anywhere is tough to beat. The orchard is a really cool feature as well. I saw in another video that another NPS unit has a working orchard. It is in Stehekin, WA located in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area.
We really want to go to that area!
We are visiting in a couple of days! Thanks for the recommendations!
Yay! Have a great time!
Oh man those pies looked amazing! Thatâs a breakfast of champions for sure! Loving these Utah vlogs - thanks for taking us along to some new areas. And for always bringing the sweet dance moves đđ» đ€Ł
Hahahaha dance moves always guaranteed! đđ
Capitol Reef is DEFINITELY underrated! I was in awe when we went there last month.
The scenery is unreal! And the cool history + orchards just make it even more special!
Your videos are like a vacation without having to take PTO Love it!
Hahahah score! đđŒ
Thumbs up just for the pie!!!
I am so glad you're channel found me.
Thank you
Bob
Weâre so glad it found you too! â€ïžâ€ïž
I watch for the food descriptions! đ THOSE PIES THO! YUMMM!
Hahaha weâre so glad you enjoy the food descriptions!
I love, love, love! Goblin Valley.
I cannot believe how gorgeous southern Utah is. We have GOT to get out there soon. the hickman bridge is crazy! Capitol Reef definitely seems underrated. Hiking up up up up ..... to an amazing view! Cassidy Arch is cool! Rappelling down would be awesome! Warm PIES! ICE CREAM! I'm shocked you got some, shocked I say. LOL.
This park is sooo underrated! We had an amazing time here and it ranks in our top parks in Utah for sure! Hard to beat a park with pie and ice cream đ
Iâm glad we watched this before we went, the pies are amazing.
Watching your video reminded me why I love that park so much; it's at the top of my "love" list along with Needles District of Canyonlands. We had always visited in October and there are not that many tourists so you feel like you have the park to yourself. When we were there 2 years ago, however in April, we drove to Capital Gorge and I hated seeing all the cars in the parking lot but we had already done the gorge hike and were doing the Golden Throne hike which started in that area, too. We did Hickman Arch in the snow quite a few years back during the first week of November. The park was gorgeous with the snow on the red rocks! And I laughed at your comment about the "tree" on Cassidy Arch because, guess what, we did rappel down from there and then continued with the guide through the canyon with additional rappels. My husband asked the guide about the tree being safe to rappel from and he said: "5 and alive"; if it's 5 inches in diameter and alive, it's safe! lol
We LOVED the Needles! Cannot wait to share a video from there soon-ish! We will say, Capitol Reef was busier than we thought it would be, especially that Capitol Gorge area...yikes, but thankfully we did get to have a lot of solitude too! Snow would be amazing though! And 5 and alive is hilarious, you're much braver than us!
How stunning! We are hoping to visit later this year!
We hope you can! It's a beautiful place!
You two are such a good team good information from your vids. Lots enthusiasm we are planning a trip to Utah in two weeks
Thank you so much! We try to make these videos as helpful as possible!
CR is clearly one of the most underrated NPs. We were there a few weeks after you guys; we stayed for 10 days and were planning multiple trips back before we even left. If youâre back in Fruita, Golden Throne should be top priority. Sorry you guys didnât wait out a parking spot for the trailhead! Kudos to your video production; you guys do a good job.
We will definitely head to that part of the park early next time! Unfortunately our van basically blocked the parking area so we couldnât stick around (unless we wanted people mad at us lol!). Thanks for the hike tip and the kind words!
outstanding. just beautiful. great coverage. really enjoy your vids. you guys do it right....and we'll prob copy many of your ideas!....well, I know we will. 5 wks till we embark on a I-90 West US tour! - Oh to Mt for 6 weeks! ...we even just bought a GoPro 8! so excited, we started loading the trailer already as it sits in our driveway! - the neighbors think we're nuts! keep up the great vids! you guys are awesome!
Scott and Natalie from Ohio.
Wow, that's going to be an amazing trip! You'll be visiting some of our favorite places ever! And being a little nuts is the best way to be đ
I love your videos, guys. I am getting more ideas for my upcoming second visit to Utah National Parks. Keep doing the great job đđ»đđ»đđ»
That's awesome! Also, check out our website. We have guides and itineraries for all 5 Utah National Parks. Our guides are much more detailed and informative than our videos can be! adventuresofaplusk.com/category/utah/
@@AdventuresofAplusK AWESOME đđ»đđ»đđ»I got it
I have been using your videos to plan our trip west this summer, thank you.
Woo! We love to hear that, it makes us super happy!
What a beautiful place, so cool you could walk on the arch. And pie? I mean, c'mon!
That pie was delicious and was a unique twist to the park!
Awesome video! My wife and I loved Capital Reef. We pretty much did all the same hike you guys did and saw the same historical sites. Love your National Park checklist :) Goblin Valley is super cool! Make sure to make a list of wishes, youâll be able to see a lot of shooting stars with a new moon.lol...
So happy you loved Capitol Reef too! And Goblin Valley is so amazing, we canât wait to share it. Didnât see any shooting stars there, but we saw something weird in the sky at Canyonlands!
I'm so glad I found your channel. Looking forward to visiting Capitol Reef when I return to Utah next year. Saw you have videos from Red River Gorge and Cumberland Gap, so I'll be watching soon. Those will make great weekend trips for me since I'm from the Indianapolis area. You look like you're having an awesome time, and thanks for all the work you put into these videos.
We loved the Red River Gorge and Cumberland Gap! Two spots we hadnât planned to visit and ended up really enjoying. Thanks for the kind words on the videos!
I think Adam can walk all day if Kathryn promises that he can have ice cream or pie afterwards. You find so many nice hikes to go on that I've never heard of. What sources do you use to find your "adventures"?
Hahah very true, ice cream and pie rewards are basically a guaranteed way to get us to hike! And we use a mix of resources, but rely heavily on AllTrails + reading other blogs (Earth Trekkers had a great blog on Navajo Knobs that sold us on the hike).
We just got back from there and youâre right⊠totally underrated! And we had the peach pie! Delicious!
SO delicious and such a gorgeous park! Weâre so glad you enjoyed it!
Fun, fun, fun!!! I enjoyed the ride so much guys and the happy music was awesome! Lot's of smiles and laughter coming from me until I started drooling over the pie! Wow, how long will it take me to learn that I need to have something good to eat while watching your vlogs! Awesome as always guys...see you on Thursday!
Hahahaha have food for Thursday! We have some tasty đźđźđź!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Iâll grab some tacos from Local Cantina before I watch!
Woo! Sounds like the perfect plan!
Just started watching your videos and now Iâm hooked. Great videos. I love the interesting facts and such. You guys have great content and editing. Iâve lived in Utah my entire life and Iâve never had one of those piesâŠnow I have to!
Thank you so much Jim, that means a lot! Definitely get the pie...it's sooo good! (just go early before they sell out)
Thanks to your advice, I bought the Strawberry Rhubarb and Apple Pie!! Oh my!! It was so good!! Toured the area last week!
Woo! So happy you enjoyed the pie!!
I loved this vlogâŠthe endless views. Your shadow waving was amazing and reminded me just how looooong your legs are!!!đ Those pies looked so amazingly deliciousâŠyou could have shipped one back to me!đ And you know how much I loved seeing my Konie â€ïžđ¶!
Hahahah lately our long shadow legs make me laugh! And I guess we will just have to go back to get you a pie đđ
Capital Reef is like your own personal park, very few people, lots to explore and pie.
It was great! A few areas were busy, but we had a lot of solitude too!
I live just outside of capitol reef. great review of our area. not to mention...PIE!!!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Another great video. Definitely on my list of places to visit.
BTW I think your van buildout design is the best one in youtube land.âșïž
Thank you so much for the kind words about the video and the van! We are still super happy with our van layout!
Awesome vid. I'm heading there with the fiancée in Sept. Thanks for the pie scouting!
Eat ALL of the pies for us! đ„§đđŒ
Capitol Reef is such an unique NP, and Fruita Campground is a place of dreams. I hope I can visit some day and eat some of these delicious pies. This is not to mention the hikes and the views, just WOW! Totally UNDERRATED!
We totally agree! That was one of the most surprising parks to us! Love it!
Hello Adventurersđđ, Capital Reef National Park doesn't get the love that it should, probably because of the remoteness of the area, but this place is absolutely AMAZING!! Those pies looked sooooo GOOD! Great videođđđ!
It is SO worth the trek to get there! We loved it so much!
As soon as I saw strawberry and rhubarb on the menu I thought thatâs the one for me lol excellent video đđđ
It was SO dang good!!!
Absolutely loving your Utah series! You motivate me to hop on the elliptical and exercise so I can watch your videos! Also, making a bucket list, hoping to visit Utah again soon. Looking forward to your adventures in Moab. Have you made it to Canyonlands yet??? If not, I highly recommend the White Rim Trail and Upheaval Dome hikes. The end of White Rim Trail has probably the best panoramic view I've ever experienced! We were there last summer and it was so breathtaking! Also †that you guys have đź and đŠ so much.. you're my kind of people!
We are so glad youâre enjoying them! And we did make it to Canyonlands and did both of those! So beautiful đđ
I enjoy your comments and the views, I am from Utah and have not seen a lot of the things you have filmed
We are so happy we can show you some places in your home state!
Whoa, as if you guys have visited 35 National Parks already!!! This video brought back so many good memories. I think because I was in Capitol Reef much more recently than Bryce, this video got me a little emotional, excited to see it again, sad that I have no idea when I can get back out stateside! I loooved the music selection in this video too, brings back memories of previous videos of yours but couldn't put my fingers on which ones - so happy and upbeat though! đ„ł The views from Navajo Knobs were all kinds of amazing. No the wonder why you were so knackered, you guys got up so high! Your experience of Cassidy Arch was very different to ours. The colour on the rocks due to sunrise was all kinds of beautiful. They'd sold out of pies when we made it to the Gifford Homestead. Listening to your description was difficult! đ€Šââïžđ... then you went and bought a second one! The apple pie looked more like an Apple crumble. Is that something you guys have over in the US? Very jealous that you also got to go into the school house - it was closed when we visited! You guys really did cram tonnes into your visit. Definitely did more than us and we had a day and a half, no the wonder why you were zonked by the end. 25:22 đ€Ł not gonna say any more about that! đ€Łđ€Ł
Your videos gave us so many ideas of things to do, so a BIG thank you! It was fun to walk in your footsteps there (and at Arches and Canyonlands...we have talked about you tons the last few weeks!). So bummed you didn't get pie though, you'll just have to come back đ The top definitely reminded us of an apple crumble!
Oh my gosh I was so embarrassed. There was a guy behind us witnessing the whole thing and somehow Adam did not care (usually people seeing us film makes us both MEGA nervous and awkward) đ
Yum I love apple pie. No wonder you guys can eat like you do as much hiking as you do.
We are very active! The apple pie was the best!
Great đ job making it to the top, those views were amazing đ I was tired đ« just watching you guys climbing that elevation. Not sure if I can make that one to the top this spring but want to attempt the rim overlook for sure .
The rim overlook is definitely worth it and a great choice if you canât go the entire way!
We loved CRNP too. We only allotted a 24 hour stop also. We hiked both the wash trails and Hickman bridge and of course ate way too much pie and cinnamon rolls.
That's the only way to do it! We hear those cinnamon rolls are super good, but they were long gone...even when we got there pretty early!
Impressive sites y'all are visiting
It has been pretty dang incredible!
Capitol Reef is so underrated! I loved the Chimney Rock trail. That one had the best views in my opinion.
We will have to try it next time!
Looks incredible there! It sucks you only had 24 hours to enjoy it. Safe travels!! đ€
That darn thing called work always ruining the fun đ But super happy we got to visit!
Great video! I'm bringing my wife and kids out west for a 2 week trip and we are making a half-way pitstop in Capitol Reef on Monday 6/14 while on our way from Moab to Bryce. I have a feeling things are going to be quite busy at the National Parks this summer, but hopefully not too busy that we can take advantage of cherry picking!
The parks are definitely pretty busy, even during our visits in March and April, but if you start early, you should get a bit of solitude! Enjoy cherry picking, that sounds super fun!
I'm thinking about my wife and I taking a vacation next year going from our home near Killeen to the Grand Canyon then Bryce Canyon passing through Capitol Reef. Looks like amazing scenery.
Do it! Check out our website where we have guides and itineraries for those parks. They are much more detailed and helpful for planning than our videos where we can only talk about and show so much.
Thanks for watching!
