The full story is that Fuma and Xianlian are married originally in a village outside of the capital. Fuma studies hard to pass the meritocratic test to try to become a government official, and his wife has to basically support him and their two kids. He leaves for the capital one day and actually does so well on the test that the emperor notices and asks “are you married? if not, ill let you marry one of my daughters” Fuma says he is not married. His wife, after a while, gets worried about why her husband has not come back or written back yet, so she goes to the capital and sees Fuma and the emperor's daughter together. She’s furious and sues him. The guy singing is the “police” (not sure if right word) and has come to detain Fuma and tells Fuma he will be executed. Fuma is confused why, so he asks what he has done. Then this part happens (thats why the singer tells Fuma to get close and read the charges).
No I think he also killed his wife and kids to keep up the charade
The guy singing is Bao Zheng, a famous Chinese judge and politician from the Song Dynasty. He's known as being exceptionally righteous and upright in his values, willing to cast judgement on anyone and everyone who are found guilty. You will find him portrayed in popular media as a fat man with a dark stoic face, a beard and a crescent moon on his forehead. @@TheDeath5fan
The one being sued is Chen Shimei
He was a poor guy who went to the capital to find better opportunity, so he could support his wife and daughter
He became successful, even the emperor heard of him and offered him to marry the princess
But you couldn't marry the princess while being married to another woman, so he hid his past, about his wife and kid in the village
After years of being a crown prince, his wife Qin Xianglian (I probably butchered her name) and daughter go to the capital to search for him
If the emperor finds out that he cheated on his wife, lied about his marriage status, and deceive the emperor, he would be executed (deceiving the emperor is a high-tier crime, moreover if you did this to get his daughter)
So he hired an assassin to kill his own wife and daughter, and forced the assassin to suicide at the temple
Little did he know, Qin Xianglian (his old wife) survived, and filed an indictment, which was sung in this video
In the original opera, this part was supposedly sang by Bao Zheng, the great judge who devoted his life to help the people, the rare kind of judge who actually seek to deal justice
TL;DR
He committed adultery, and deceived the emperor (big crime) to get the royal co*chie, but his plan failed, so he will face the consequences (beheading?)
@@TheDeath5fan oh, and to answer your questions

FYI: The song is an extract from a Beijing Opera story called "Chen Shimei's Beheading Case", where the namesake Chen Shimei leaves his wife, Qin Xianglian, and children behind to pursue a career in the imperial court. He keeps his marital status a secret. Rising up the ranks of the court, the emperor offers Chen Shimei to marry his daughter, which he accepts. Qin Xianglian finds out about her husband's deception and betrayal of their marriage and consults politician and legal expert Bao Zheng, who declares Chen Shimei guilty of deceiving the emperor and eventually gets him executed.

Most elevating piece of text I have ever seen
This is actually quite good
you know, people memed this scene and shitposted it, and my first reaction also was to laugh at this "weird guy", but after learning the context of what is being said, knowing it is about judge Bao finally formally indicting a corrupt royal family member of all of his crimes and posting it on every household on top of that, and all of that he's saying right to the accused's face like "look at all the shit you done. you're fucked, pal", it's pretty epic and worthy of the "mic drop" and the applause this always get in every single public performance you see posted on youtube, must be pretty epic for chinese audiences seeing the commoner Xianglian finally getting justice and seeing a politician getting effed
Wait, a judge did that to a member of the family? Damn he's so brave, what if the emperor was dipleased with him? He could lose grace and go straight to the chopping block
Average china lore enjoyer
@@mh-tw4kx the judge showed that the man who married the emperor's daughter was already married legally before, thus he fooled the emperor and took his daughter as a wife, that's why he was executed, so if anything judge bao helped the emperor get rid of someone who was dishonest and unfit for his family.
@@gebreknefekalmoradiss3785 that man also drove an innocent person to their suicide, pretty dark
@@gebreknefekalmoradiss3785 in the story the emperors son in law try's to have his first wife killed and the emperor actually is convinced by his daughter and wife to pardon the son in law. The judge then executed the son in law anyway even though doing so condemns himself (the judge) to death for defying the emperor
This is so satisfying to watch and I don't know why
The accuracy of the voice with the instrument syncs in a godly fashion. It’s almost unreal.
It is generating social credits in your CCP profile.
Very intense performance. Sounds like they're killing it too.
This is the greatest duo play
What eye contact, what time's feeling
those off-beat percussions slowly going into synchronisation is so satisfying
He was spitting bars.
Damn what a legend he is, that song must be over 4 minute originally and yet he make it 34sec 🤯
nope, 京劇s are sung like this, however some parts have slower tempo (if im not mistaken)
