We leave the beautiful Staffs & Worcester Canal and head North onto the Shropshire Union Canal, this section is just beautiful and another reminder of how lucky we are to be living on a boat. We can't decide where to stop, will it be Brewood or further North along the canal.
Paul & Anthony together with Dexter live full time, but manage to work part-time, on a Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what it's really like to be Living on a boat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals and rivers in the UK onboard an Oakums Narrowboat called Morning Star. Our brand brand new narrowboat from Oakums Narrowboats is embracing the latest technology including lithium, solar, and electric propulsion, the boat will be coal and gas free. We can't wait to share our new adventures with you.

I've been doing screen captures of the bridges as you approach them, great landscape composition stuff. So many stretches of canal make for good art subjects and you guys film it wonderfully.

My favourite canal! I think the Shropie has a very LOTR feel to it. You almost expect to see the Fellowship crossing one of those high bridges at any minute.

Hey guys and Dexter! Loved hearing the bird song along the way this week! I just looked to see if we have Kingfishers here in the US and apparently we do however the species in the UK is much more colorful than ours. We think Paul should do a couple magic tricks at some point. We really enjoyed seeing some time ago. The cruise this week was so peaceful and so much lush surroundings! We have had friends on the boat with us. The weather was amazing for September. Someone else asked about the kingfisher: I didn’t realise there are so many sub species. The common king fisher does seem to be the most vibrant. The Shoppie was a delight. We loved it. I was chuffed with the turn on the canal. 😊 We have had a lovely weekend thank you. Agree with many others, the scenery is ever changing and always stunning. Some of the bridges were just old world! It seemed you were back in time and the only ones out on the canals. I wonder how many miles/kms you’ve put in to retrieving the van, Anthony? Haircut suits you well. So looking forward to you both in cooler weather and the fire going. So appreciate the Collin’s /Nicholson guide references. It is so educational following along. I actually sorted out the water point would be on your left. Thanks William. We loved this canal. The bridges are amazing and hard to believe how old they are. It can sometimes feel like we are the only ones on the canal. I definitely must have clocked some miles retrieving the van. Glad you like the haircuts 😊. The diesel stove has been amazing during this cold weather.

I bet your not wanting it to be cooler now and the fire will have been on much more than 30 minutes. Its good your getting closer to family and work as the winter months come. It was very quiet on the canals. I like using the Canal Plan, putting in any varitions and coming out with a result, then tweeking it. Hi Paul. My grandfather Eric Segar was a magician and was at one time a member of the Ipswich Magical Society in 1930. So I have always loved magic and got to meet Penn Gillette in San Francisco in 1980 at their show as the Asparagus Valley Cultural Society. Mind blowing show. Teller did his Shadow trick withe scissors and flower. Still one of the most mesmerising tricks I have ever seen

I was wondering why the weather was so nice compared to here, in Chicago on the 1st day of December. LOL We are in winter jackets, hats and boots. Another great vlog, I just love how quiet it is. Hi Paul, Anthony and Dexter-Dog. Nice hair cut Anthony, it really suits you. You are such a Super Kool-Dude! Loving the chat at the start of the Vlog (as always). I love the way you both instantly bounce back at each other during the banter moments. Those canal apps you mentioned sound really interesting. At one point on the cruise, there seems to be a lot of vegetation in the water. Did this cause you any issues? An excellent sharp left turn Anthony. It sounded like the bow thruster was used? Were you teasing us all when you said, "No Bow Thruster was used?" Still, like I said, it was an excellent turn. When you moored up at the end of the Vlog, how nice was it, that Dexter decided to get off the boat, in readiness for his walk. Another great and entertaining Vlog. Thank you. Spoolbox.

lovely vlog you get to see the bridges from an angle most people don't. They are architecturally beautiful though some have some worryingly large cracks in them; do you see bats and birds roosting under them.
Thank you. We absolutely love the bridges. Some really do have some worrying cracks. We often see pigeons roosting but never seen bats under the bridges.

"A little more denture grip" 🤣 I was thinking if you had a little camera that would fit on your bike, it would be lovely to see the scenery you had just boated through from a different perspective (I am assuming you go back down the towpath). Those old red brick bridges in the midst of all the green are stunning, as is the water and the greenery all around. I hope you have a wonderful week.

I think it was, sadly that’s interesting to me too, as I am a calibration guy, levels flows pressure etc, won’t bore you with my details but was interested on what level probe you had, probably a resistance based unit, just my sad interest no need to reply lol
I think when we initially calibrated the tank it wasn’t done when full so miss read. It has been pretty accurate since re calibrating. I have to admit, I have no idea what system it uses.
Lovely video! I remember how hot it got! We use canalplan and we have a complete set of Nicholson guides… cause you never know! We have a couple of Pearsons too…

Hey Julia. We loved the Shroppie. There are kingfishers in America, Europe and Africa. Loads of sub species. Paul has been a magician for over 30’years. Some of the guides give history of key places.
We always go away in January with friends so will be skipping ahead at this point.

You were close to where I live, wish I’d known…but I don’t suppose you really want viewers turning up unannounced!! That towpath by Brewood gets so muddy in the winter, you saw it at its best. Great cruise, nice remembering that it was so hot - the frost never melted off over the past two days 🥶. See you next week!

Again that was such a pretty trip but so quiet in spots it was almost spooky.. Great job on that sharp bend. Some of those bridges were amazing. Oh boy having to go for the van would get a bit crazy. Funny names almost like Welsh. Take care you guys,love to Dex. See you soon. 💕

Happy Friday evening! 🥰 This was a lovely cruise but I've seen videos of ice on the canals right now and snow in some places. It's not that bad here yet. For the most part we hover around 40 degrees. Not warm but still comfortable and it seems like it might stay this way for awhile longer and that is fine with me! ☺ I hope you watched Doctor Who. It was perfect and I love loving DW again. I'm finishing the classics and tracker site tells me I only have 294 to go! 😵💫 I'm finishing the 4th and have the 5th, 6th and 7th yet to see. ❤ Have a great evening and take care. ❤

Definitely pleased to be closer to family and friends although we didn’t get to go on the Leeds/Liverpool canal as planned due to closures. Dexter is definitely more comfortable now it is cooler although it has been Baltic here too. Been snowing today.

Yes thanks we’ve just moved to Thorne on Wednesday to get diesel & order a load of coal. Didn’t want to go to far away in case I have another asthma attack 🙄 think I’m settling down again now 🤞🏻

Hey Katherine. It definitely is a game we often play.
The water is fine to drink. We tend to use a brita filter for water we drink but water we boil we don’t filter. We used to do the same in a house though. Hope you have a lovely weekend. ❤️

It was September. There is always a gap between filming and the vlog itself. This is because we try and film everytime we move and so we have a lot of content and each move takes about 3 days to edit, hence the gap in time (it made sense in my head when typing, hope it makes sense to you 😂). ❤️

Welcome to the Chanel Chris. I think there is a video of the bike. It is a MiRider one. The tyres are so much better on the tow path than the Brompton I previously had. I use the bike to retrieve the van each time we move. It had been invaluable. I do think we have filmed a bit about the logistics of “bridge hopping” which will be shown as a future vlog. Paul is an artist (which he does from the boat) and also a magician. I am a Sonographer. Hope you have a wonderful New Year. ❤️

Lovely lovely cruise. Wow so stunning. Now winters really here how’s ur battery’s coping ? My ev battery is not coping this year. Range drastically reduced and so to is the rapid charging speed. So much so I’m going back to fossil fuel for now. Every best wish guys. ❤

@@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked most ev cars are ok. Hyundai batteries brilliant. Nissan not so good. Mine used 40 miles range to do 12 miles this morning. I’ve now got a petrol car for couple of years while I save up a bit hopefully. Glad your boat batteries are doing well. And I bet the stoves working hard. Best wishes
