After the late 2000 the character reach a level where the title didnât matter. The fans just wanted to see undertaker
Funny someone said the streak was more coveted than the titlesâŠ
Most characters get bigger then the title to be fair
I hated the american badass, but big evil was an improvement.
You're right but I think Taker had that way before then. He had a drought from the title between 1991 and 1997 and I'd argue that he was equal in popularity to any of the world champions around that time... I'd argue he was more popular than Shawn when Shawn was Champ, at least (and I love Shawn).
I'd even argue that when he had the belt semi regularly between 1997-1999, some of that was his lowest popularity. (His lowest had to be 2001 though)
I always wanted Taker to have the belt but to be honest there was almost always someone else who needed it more. I do think he needed to win it occasionally to cement his legitimacy, but he didn't need long reigns and he didn't need it often.
100 percent. He transcended the Belt. Taker just being there was the coolest thing.
Early 2007 Undertaker during Batista feud was arguably peak Undertaker overall.
There's a segment on raw in 07 where Taker comes out from under the stage and confronts Batista, he looks insane all jacked and wet with the straps down..... peak Taker indeed
@@samtheone9680 Oh yeah I remember that. He pulled the straps down on camera quite a lot around that time frame cause he knew he was looking great and wanted to show the gains đ
@@samtheone9680Batista showed him the good stuff đȘ...around their WM match
I agree. Taker is a guy whose prime is REALLY difficult to pinpoint. Was it debut Undertaker who was unstoppable and couldn't feel pain? Was it Ministry Undertaker who became the devil incarnate and tried to take over the company, or was it Smackdown "conscience" from 2004-2010? Hard to pinpoint it, but very few guys are in their peak physical condition at 40+ like Taker was. In 2007, he was 42 and looked like he could destroy every single person in the building in a fight. It's really unbelievable. I think we can agree on what Taker's LOW points were, though. 1994-1996 when really the entire company was terrible, Taker was sort of just meandering around, and then the early half of the American Badass was pretty bad (2000-2001, where he was out of shape and I would argue was actually surpassed by Kane in popularity)
@@crispycruiser4654 I like american badass why you says that was bad ?
"When you get lazy you get fat and fat pigs get slaughtered." What a great quote
The streak was arguably a title in itself. Taker created his own title with that.
Facts
Undertaker around the time he returned as the deadman was, imo, peak Undertaker physique. He was just huge and lean. As he progressed to 2010ish he didn't gain body fat, but he did lose muscle mass.
thats called aging lol 2007 is peak taker for physique and match quality
He's also notorious for drinking like a fish. Alcohol kills your muscles cells.
If you remove alcohol from the equation, he would be fucking massive - undertakers a fucking beast
Just saw a great Maven video about his brushes with the dead man in WWE - Undertaker is just too classy putting over new talent, what a champ! Once in a generation
They need to do a podcast together hopefully someday
My favourite version of the Undertaker was the ministry 1999 he was ao cool and just before he left as he was morphing into the American bad ass but still darker looking like a Danzig Satan đ€đ€đ€
Undertaker never really needed the belt. But it was always good seeing him win it
I think Taker just figured out Cody's heel turn into The American Psycho.
To me Taker had the Andre spot, he was an attraction all on his own so having him as the champion was overkill, you had to do alot to protect that character just to take the belt off of him.
Could argue it also made it more special when he had the title. It's not easy to book a larger than life dominant baby face as champion.
2003 - 2007 waz his best ring shape, and peak fitness. He looked shredded!
I'd say 2005-10.
I donât know about âpeakâ but my favourite Taker is 2005-2010
98-99 favorite taker ministry of darkness days his promos look everything
He didn't need the title he was the true champion throughout most of his run.
I felt that The Undertaker by the 00s reached the level where he was always the favourite to win the title on any given day and regardless of who the champion was at the time, he was built to be a major threat and it was always a big deal to have him in a championship match. The Undertaker character never needed the title as he was over and was our modern Andre The Giant special attraction where people always wanted to see him no matter where he was featured on the card
Came here because of Maven.
Youâre the best Taker
Same, awesome video! it's a Maven video yet the big takeaway is just how amazing the Undertaker is for the sport, and how lucky Maven feels for the short amount of time they had together in the ring.
If you're a Maven subscriber, I'm surprised this podcast didn't come up sooner on your feed
Seriously, this is such a treat to actually see the Undertaker speaking so freely. I thought he was hold that tight grip on the persona forever. Live long âTaker.
Growing up in the early 90's I'd always hear stories about how the undertaker was the undertaker 24/7
mark your the best wrestler in the history of wrestling story wise talent for height and weight and just for selling us that u was a deadman congratulations on retirement brother wrestling will never be the same
when taker returned in the burning casket he was fucking jackedddd
Mark Calaway ( The Undertaker)
IS THE MAN !!! đđ»đȘđđ»
That title changed hands so many times in 2002. I'm glad Mark was able to get the title off Hogan again at Judgement Day which was the first WWE PPV since the re-brand.
Hogan had no business sabotaging HHH'S babyface title run, or part two of the HHH/Taker feud. In 2001, Heel H, Face Taker. In 2002, it flipped.
@@Speedyreedy1218 You hit the nail on the head. Hogan shouldn't have been in a main event picture at that time.
@RyanRumbles434 Ugh. He wasted some great promos between H and Taker. I can't believe they had GM Flair make book the main event, present the new undisputed title to HHH...and like 10 days before the PPV, switch it to Hogan. đđđ
Someone pointed out that they needed to protect his character when also dropping the titles, and he was right. 7 world title runs and closest to clean was the triple threat where he wasn't the one pinned. Even against Hogan, Hogan had to heel to win.
4:23 bro, I was actually frying bacon when I heard this đ€Ł
Personally, he never, ever needed that belt, but it was fun watching him get it.
There's the face of the company who holds the title, the one on the cover and whatnot then there's the Undertaker. He's above that, imo
Hope there's a collab with maven soon!
Ministry of Darkness Undertaker
The goat undertaker look
Love Ministry Undertaker.
All time favorite undertaker
The best version of the character, in my opinion
My favourite.
Taker should have a lot more titles on his resume. He's great who never held the IC title, he never really had his time as champion in the attitude era. I know he never needed the title but come on man...he DESERVED titles.
He had the championship in the attitude era 2 times
@@cs77smith67 over a 20+ year career...and we've seen John Cena and Randy Orton win belts 14 times, including holding Midcard titles. Undertaker has never had a midcard title.
i dont disagree. but keep this in mind too. the more titles Taker would have had, that means he was losing alot more often too, and that wouldnt have worked for his character. He is dominant all through the chase and soon as he gets the title, he starts losing often like everyone else and falling for shenanigans and antics of heels and crooked GMs. i surely would have seen right through that. i preferred when Taker won the title, that he had a long a fruitful reign, which made more sense, and generally is how his reigns were. And thats also likely why he didnt have so many reigns, as to not tie up the title so long.
Taker took a lot of risk getting that character over and they all paid off in the long run. Pulling back in the ring and not focusing on having the best match on the card was actually a genius move (even though he would still have classic matches throughout his career). Those earlier matches with Foley, Austin, Shawn, Bret and Kane during the 90âs, while some might not be â5 starâ classics, theyâre still classics. By the time he transitioned to the ABA persona, he was already a legend and a household name prior to the internet. Heâs like a bottle of fine wine, got better with time. His peak years in terms of his physique would be 2003-2007.
Like backlash 2001 tagline
" he who has the power has the gold
Undertaker already had the Wrestlemania streak going for him as is, so having the title more or less was just something a little special. It didn't particularly add anything to his already long list of achieved accolades, but just showed how well of a champion he was when he did have the belt.
There were a lot of good points made in this clip. I think as a champion, you need to have a good character, you need a good work rate, you need to be able to be a guy that anyone can work with and have a good match through. You also need to be a leader because that's what you become when you're 'the guy' picked to be champion.
It's something Cody Rhodes is right now and looks to improve from. Roman Reigns was possibly the best heel champion we've gotten in a long time since the days of early 2000s HHH when he had the title.
Plus, having a healthy cycle of main event contenders is also what helps keep a championship relevant and important.
My favorite Undertaker was when he was making people bleed from the Hellâs Gate Submission. It was cool seeing him lock it in as a counter to moves like edges spear and The Great Khaliâs choke bomb.
When he went on his own in 1996; probably a wise choice
yea and it gave Bearer a chance to evolve too. When they would come back together after 96, it always felt special.
Ministry Taker was pretty damn jacked
My new fav podcast. Man, I love listening to 'Taker tell his tales. Seriously a great listen. And the other host(forgive me, I dont know his name)is perfect as well.
\T/
I agree. The host has a calm demeanor and let's Taker talk and doesn't interrupt and also knows his history. Great video.
Wanting to put on the best match was everyone's attitude in the in the ruthless aggression era
My favorite era will always be the black and purple. For a kid that was into heavy metal and monster movies and that kinda stuff, Taker/Mankind in 96 was pretty much Frankenstein versus The Wolfman. Also, an era that Iâve always had a fondness for was Big Evil. Iâve always felt that that was possibly what we wouldâve gotten had Mean Mark never become The Undertaker.
Glad to see dope production values for the podcast!
The best and my favorite of all time. I wish you comfort and comfort with your beautiful familyđ€đđ€
I WAS HERE ALREADY WAITING FOR THE LAST VIDEO TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT MAVEN
TAKER IS THE BEST
He's right.... As a kid going to live shows in the Garden, the best part of the undertaker vs. Skinner or Tatanka was The entrance, tombstone, and Body bag... people forget that he used to put these guys in body bags after destroying themđ€Ł
I got to see Taker vs Warrior body bag match at the Boston Garden. Great shit
The freaking GOAT!! I love the fact that Taker does this podcast man. So much knowledge amd GEMS being dropped. đŻđŻđŻ
him and kane never needed a belt , the magnitude of there character made them top level players regardless
Nevermind chasing or winning the belt; I'm more interested in how the belt is defended once it's in your possession.
Big evil and ministry of darkness was his best looks and attitude to me
Pleasee make a collab with Maven or talk about him because is channel is very good and he see the moment with you like the greatest thing in his life he is a great fan of undertaker and the collab will be awesome
It was indeed a sight to see when taker having thw world title but yeah as the phenom his like that final boss when new champions or a dominant champion taker is the ultimate challenge
I love Taker, he a proper company man
As a undertaker fan he shouldve been champ alot more
We love Mark to much to be markish to him!
Who is the guy asking mark the questions? There is no info on the channel bio
Taker was one of the few that doesnât need the tittle to feel he was the main event in wwe when he wasnât even the main event
Mark madd props you have done so much for WWE FANS Brother you the đ
Minestry of Dark taker was deliciously vile â€
Agree 94 purple Era!
Here cause of maven you guys should have him on.
Yo if you beat the undertaker in match it was like winning the belt đ
Came here from maven. It would be great if you two guys do a collab. I feel like it would be really interesting
bro we need Maven on your show. Remember the kid? He's the one you threw into a popcorn machine.
He don't need the golds, himself bigger than everything..
Can we get Maven on an episode? That would ve incredible
Amazing title match!!!đșđČđđșđł
American Psycho would be awesome. Nightmare was Dustin's name
Maven sent me. You helped him in the ring, he helps you on CZcams.
Hey from maven â€đ
Undertaker was only champion 7 times in 30 years in wwe
Iâll never forget when I got to see the undertaker versus the ultimate warrior in 1991 at the Boston Garden. Always loved the original incarnation. Taker was in the same position as Piper , Jake Roberts, & Andre, where he didnât need a belt.
Hello all..ok like the title said. Chased all like the power has the gold
It crazy that Maven has more subscribers than the Undertaker. Heâs eliminating him from competition just like in the Royal Rumble.
omg that's so sad
well to Maven's credit he has been at this game a little longer than Taker.
Maven sent me here đ
The GOAT đđŸ. Much respect Taker
Lol I just realized why does Matt get the Andre The Giant chair.
REST IN PEACE â
Which belt do you think undertaker look best in? Which belt is takerâs favorite?
What's Happy Dad. Is it a beer
Hey what does Taker think of people turning to steroids, rather wrestling, bodybuilding, fitness modeling or whatever? Did he ever feel pressure to try steroids himself?
I used to love the championship belts in WWE but not anymore. Since WWE and WCW are both scripted matches, I realized that championships are just accessories to the wrestlers. It's the wrestlers that brings those belts and those matches to life. To see Undertaker wrestled against Kane, Fake Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior in non-championship matches is worth it already.
Its true like what Taker said, he has built enough credibility that he doesn't need championships to solidify his legacy because fans will come watch him. In UFC, winning the championship belts means a lot because you get higher salary and is the STAR of the ppv. But in WWE, i come to see the Wrestlers perform, not win championship belts.
Taker is so humble and willing to put others over so they can succeed like he did too.
I used to watch wwe when i was a kid and be scared of you, before the internet era. As of now as a grown man, I'm happy to know that my "boogeyman" is so kind hearted, i really am enjoying your podcasts. I hope that my humble opinion can state something to your career and also to you as a person
I wish taker was champion more in my opinion. He shouldâve beaten Brunoâs streak honestly
I wish someone would ask him does he has a say so in what type of titles he would like to go after. Also how come he didnt go after the WWE championship more during the Deadman running during the early 2000s
Taker high as hell. lol. my boy off dem oxy's. However they are well deserved oxy's. Taker put his body thru hell for DECADES!!! bY NO MEANS IS HE A JUNKIE, BUT HE IS HIGH LOL. LOVE U TAKER. COME BACK TO ST PETE FL, TO LIVE
Make a video with maven !!!!
Cody has gotten a tittle that dusty and dustin could not get. And i think undertaker is right! Cody has it! And roman did get lazy and now cody was made the tittle awesome in just under 3 wks
Grampa Taker high on his meds or he got that RVD workout plan
The American Psycho đ
American Psycho: Cody Rhodes gimmick after he loses the title
Itâs officials now, Cody must change his name to American Psycho, The Deadman has spoken
He turns heel and starts chasing people with an axe when they call him Stardust
I guess now there saying Vince had Andre shit on interns. They tag teamed interns. Look it up
The Undertaker didn't need the Title. He was bigger than the title
no he didnt need it all the time, but some times it was necessary. but bigger than the title, i dunno if i agree with that. i dont think anyone is bigger than title but im a traditionalist in that sense.
đ
Undertaker, SCSA and the Rock never needed the title to remain relevant.
The rock absolutely did. He was never not chasing the title.
Stone Cold absolutely did, he was the face and chasing constantly.
@@Devypocalypse you do realise there's a difference between chasing and winning the title and Scsa didn't always win the title.
@@jaries7949 didn't always win but he vast amount of time he was in the title picture. He held the belt more than anyone during 98-99 and then in 01 after his return. All the time nearly when he wasn't champion he was chasing the gold in some way (winning matches to get one contendership, to get into Rumble to get shot etc). In both those prime eras he quite literally was never not main event. Like ever. Even in matches he wasn't in he was referee.
Both rock and stone cold were always chasing the title in their peek back in 99-/02, they hardly kept the title more than 3 months.. and they were top 2 guys! In that era!
What a top boy thanks Mark.
As a kid, Dusty seemed like a dumpy fat guy with polkadots on. I never saw the appeal at all. I bet I was just a bit too young to appreciate any of what he had done.
Pls some one ask about Paul promo after undertaker attack Brock Lesnar. Undertaker beg to vince for one more match with Brock
Big Evil đ
The Holy grail
Why do you guys keep saying âtheyâ or âthe officeâ rather than just saying âVinceâ.
Undertaker "Deadman" gimmik peaked in 1999. The lord of darkness/Ministry persona where his best character work.
Yea. LA Knight
Ya'll gotta stop with the god damn heel cody shit. He just won the title.
