  • The Can Am Ryker has returned to the stable . As I have mentioned in a previous vid I brought the Ryker in for its 12,000 mile service. All the recommended services where done with no apparent mechanical issues. It turned out the fuel pump that I had the shop look at was an apparently recalled pump as per the 12/23 fuel pump recall notice. Now my Ryker does not qualify for the recall as per the notice we shall see how that works out. Now I really NEED YOUR HELP in identifying what this new sound is. Watch the video and I'll point out what that sound is and your help would be appreciated.
    Ride safe everyone see you in the next one.

    Well i have taken it back to the shop and they definitely did the right thing by me in regards. After some tinkering the noise is much reduced and after talking to BRP I think the cause has been diagnosed. Im waiting on a followup from BRP before i do a followup video discussing it. Thanks to all of you guys that tried to take a stab at the problem it’s much appreciated.

    I am one of your newer followers as I am thinking about getting a Ryker. I originally Swedish, just moved to Mexico after 5 and a half years in North Carolina. I have been working with quality, espcially claims quality and quality management for over 23 years, all in tier 1 and tier 2 automotive.
    Unless BRP is completely incompetent, which I doubt they are, I would probably not worry about that fuel pump. I’m sure, that whoever took a recall decision, did it basis of risk analysis of that supplier who makes the pump and that there is a certain range of serial numbers on that pump that is at risk.
    Often, if not the standard, quality issues are worked on by the 8D model. It’s a system on how to deal with quality issues. One of the steps is to contain the stock, what’s in transport, at customers and so on. I’m pretty sure that if they recalled pump ABC that they made sure to remove everything and anything of that pump within the serial numbers at risk.
    Thank you for a good channel

      If the pump didn’t make a strange noise over the summer i wouldn’t have bothered. And thank you for subscribing. Hopefully ill have a conclusion to this little saga soon.

    Thats either the CVT belt or the primary clutch making that noise. Theres also come padding in the Tranmission area, it's possible that got loose and is rubbing the belt.. but I would think you would hear that all the time if that was the case.

    I had to look up fakakta. 🤣 Now I have a new word in the old cranium. Did they adjust the belt tension while it was in? Might be too tight. It sounds like a 1985 Mazda with a manual trans backing up. Happy to be one of the chosen few! 😎

      First I’m glad you watched all the way. I honestly make these things up as i go along so near the end when I’m through the meat and potatoes i sometimes drop a nugget of good info. I’m from Brooklyn originally so we have some strange words and i don’t know where i picked up fakakta from lol. Well there is no tensioner on the belt thats adjustable as the Ryker is a CVT unlike our spyders and has a drive shaft to the rear wheel. It is possible that the belt in the CVT needs to break in so i will be monitoring it and seeing if it changes as i put more miles on it.

    $1900?!? Ouch, even minus the fuel pump. I paid $5000 last month for my 2019 Ryker 600, with 9000 miles on it. I will definitely be doing the 12,000 mile maintenance myself.... That'll probably come it sooner than later; I've put 500 miles on it in less than a month.

    • @SIRyker
      @SIRyker  Před 16 dny +1

      That was including the new fuel pump and the heat blanket installation. All these can be done by yourself I just chose not to.

      @@SIRyker Nothing wrong with paying money to save yourself time and convenience, if you can afford it. I've done it myself many times over the years. But I'm retired now and definitely have more time than money, so I'll be doing the maintenance myself. 🙂

      @troystallard6895 if I had a garage or something I would be more inclined to do the work myself. There is the other factor that if it’s done wrong you have to pay to fix it again. Glad you like what I’m putting out I’ll keep trying to keep it entertaining.

      @@heatheronwheels its an early 2021 got it 2020. Luckily didn’t have too many issues so far. The VSS was simply the SAS sensor and now the fuel pump (which is now fixed). It does run well so it may be nothing.

    Firstly "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY" Secondly I would have left the bike with them so its their problem, I know it mean being without the bike, But im sure they would have sorted it if you had left with them taking up space. its the principle, A good dealer would have discounted the pump and labour as you had all the evidence there in black and white and they themselves would have tried to recouperate the costs from BRP instead of acting dumb.
    I defiently think that is a belt noise and owner my ryker from new (100) miles its not 3 years old, Ive never heard that noise myself on my Ryker. However I have heard belt noise owner electric motorcycles, and this very much sounds like that! SO either the belt is rubbing on something or its not aligned properly. That being said if that is the case and something was to happen, if the dealer your using wouldn't honour the recall notice, then you have a slim chance of them fixing any issues with you belt. thinking outside the box, Slim chance I know but could be something rubbing on your tyre?
    fingers crossed you get it sorted!
    Jim

      @SIRyker  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks. The pump isn’t covered under the recall NOTICE so BRP will have to work it out as it was found out after the work was done. I don’t think there is any adjustment for the belt as far as alignment is concerned . It does sound like an electric motor lol. I didn’t notice it on ride home from shoo as i have music playing in my helmet. I think i only noticed it while making the vid because i have the music very low.

      @@SIRyker sorry for the late reply, not necessarily, CVT works differently from your traditional belt, as your RPM’s increase the belt transfers from one cog to the other! So as you pick up speed the belt transfers from the top to the bottom “drive” cog. You can just CZcams CVT it shows you this working. So if it’s rubbing initially, doesn’t mean whatever it’s rubbing on has not moved.
