Right after the Chinese professor said the Chinese currency depreciation was a market behaviour, the female host stated we were in a currency war and trade war. Why do they interview the economists if they just want to say certain things on TV?

One thing I do know about China is you won't break them, no matter what.
Anyone who has studied Taoism and Confucianism knows this (I'm no expert, but I do understand it a little).
I don't think the Trump Admin thinks about this, that the tactics they're currently using are really of no use in this situation.
I guess cultural intelligence isn't one of Trump's strong points (maybe he should bring someone in who does know a little more, but I doubt he will).

You don't have to break "them" I.e.. The CCP you can break their economy by causing them to devalue their currency to nothing. Also they can break themselves with the massive amounts of debt the govt has been creating.

So the US should just allow China to exploit us and steal our intellectual capital? We should just bow to them? China needs to join us in the 21st century or stay a developing country. We are more likely to be able to ride this out than them especially with they way things are playing out with their pig virus and growing middle class. Trump may not appear to be a smart man but he is doing taking the actions that have been neglected by former leaders who were cowards.

It's our past trade policies starting with Nixon that "made" modern China. We can easily take a large part of that away by implementing tit-for-tat restrictions and tariffs on their exports. If we turn to flyover USA, Mexico, Canada, Korea, Southeast Asia and South and Central America for labor instead, we can put China in a huge permanent bind from which they cannot easily recover. China has a very ingrained tendency to be a bad and isolationist neighbor. I think we might have to put them back in the permanent doghouse of their own making.
BTW: Trump has read the Art of War too, and knows its strategies and tactics by heart. He knows the Chinese mentality at least as well as they do. If anybody can pull them away from the brink of self-destruction, he can. If not, well, there are a whole lot of other people in other countries that would like to have those Chinese jobs. There's no reason why we should favor the communist Chinese over these other peoples.

the American consumer today is still 40% of world purchasing power. Very few things made in china can’t be made elsewhere. The longer the trade war goes on, more US multinational will divert supply chains away from china (already happening in droves)... taking with it jobs and factories. european companies that sell to the US, will also do the same! news release today shows china manufacturing slow to 17 year low. even if ‘only’ 10-20% of foreign companies ditch china for elsewhere... that by itself will have DEVASTATING effects on chinese growth. of course no winners in a trade war, BUT with 1 billion citizens to employ and feed, the prospects of ongoing trade friction is not pretty for china. the chinese lady commentator is right, trump is not in a hurry to get a deal done. he achieves his goals with or without a deal...

Roy Y That’s a good understanding of what is going on right now. Let me provide some other perspective. With a large population, Chinese government has the ability to launch large projects to create jobs. That in someway can balance the negative effects on the manufacture industry. And these products changed from China to EU, they will be a way higher price than before. Of course, the purchasing power, market confidence will be weakened. And those jobs lost in China is not coming back to USA, so here it is facing the same issue. Some people’s business is gonna get broken. But one thing you are right, trump is achieving his goal about not having such a high trade deficit by lowering both sides lol.

China has moved beyond the trade war between US and China. China realizes that there is no point in having a trade deal with the US because the US cannot be trusted as a trade partner. USA is not a civilized country and does not understand the meaning of the concept of cooperation. The goal of the US is global domination, a goal that neither China nor any other country besides the US, shares. Now, China is focused on two projects, namely, the Belt and Road Initiative and Made in China 2025. Both projects are going very well and will benefit all countries that care to participate. USA will isolate itself. The economies of USA and the rest of the World will slowly and steadily decouple. Trade between the US and the rest of the World will decrease and will become insignificant. Exchanges in scientific and technological fields will stop.

private name that’s not free market dude. In free market all companies go for their own interest. Also they can sell you cheap goods. I don’t know you don’t like it. I mean unemployment rate is at history low right? So most people get paid, not badly. And they can buy cheap products right now. Is there anything not pleased for you? About the trade deficit thing. If you think China still earned money from you. Let me tell you something that can make you happy. In fact, most dollars earned are coming back to USA. So many Chinese students, Chinese travelers. You don’t think they pay for Chinese companies here right? If war continues, the number of Chinese students and Chinese travelers are gonna be way fewer. And there’s a lot of business going around that. Guess who are these business owners? Surprise! Americans!

The country that will be doomed is the country that engage in regime change wars, illigal regime change sanctions that destroyed countries, crippled economies and killing millions innocent people, impoverished countries and sending millions into living in inhuman living condition.
Children are forcefully seperated from their parents and locked in iron cage prison without basic need like tool brush, clean clothing and sleep on bare concrete floor in pile of aluminium foil. Illigally capturing people and sent to torturing camps and tortured for more than 10 years without charge, basic health care violating human right.
A country that live on debts and print money out of thin air. Practice jungle law, where lie, cheat and steal are the norm and moral value of the leaders. Groundless allegations, smearing and demonizing campaigns are tools to discredit other and glorified themselve.
Weaponized trade, engaged in unilateralism, protectionalism, abandoned WTO trade rules, applying illigal tariffs, disrupted supply chains, created uncertainty to global trading system and economy.
