Marilyn Horne sings "Se il vuol, la molinara" by Rossini with Martin Katz at the piano.
From: VAI DVD 4323 Marilyn Horne in Recital - Milan, 1981
Though Marilyn Horne is known mostly for her virtuosic operatic roles, she is a superb recitalist who can scale her powerful voice down to the more intimate requirements of the recital stage.
In 1981, she appeared at Milans La Scala opera house in a recital consisting of music by Italian, German, Spanish, French and American composers. Horne was in particularly superb form that evening, partnered brilliantly by Martin Katz at the piano.
93 minutes, color, mono.

There is so much that can be learned by watching & listening to Marilyn. She is SO efficient. Mouth position, breathing, posture - amazing!! Lovely!!
M. Horne hatte eine der schönsten Stimmen der "Neuzeit".Ich habe ihre Gesangskunst sehr geliebt.Wunderbarer Klang, wunderbare Technik !
she was trained on rossini s vocalices, it is pretty incredible that a voice as heavy as hers is so agile. Just a great singer
I love how she bops her hand to the music!
SHE IS LIKE FABULOUS!!! Thanks sooo much for the post!!
Très joli! Merci "Vaimusic" !
Love her!
This was re-used by rossini later (the music) for Tancredi - Amazing!
so elegant and fluid :)
Brava Horne!
amazing
😂Вот он,золотой голос,золотой голосовой аппарат ..❤😊
1-16-2012. Isn't it great? Marilyn is 78. Happy Birthday, Marilyn.
@thomastmwc I don't know, were this any other opera house at any other year I would say they may have a touch of the "american politeness", but this was Scalla in the early 80s, hard to find a harsher more judgmental audience. which makes me think either this was the end of a superb recital, or it was really amazing in the house (recordings can only get so much).
*blink*
... wow...
I don't know why, this song was NOT in vinyle live LPs of this 1981 concert, neither in FONIT CETRA, nor in CBS, and not in CD by WARNER MUSIC! It's only in the DVD of VAi; it's the first "encore" of that night of June 2, 1981 in Milan. Jackie (Mrs.Horne) loves this concert, most of all, because that was the last time she was so thin: she writes it in her biography.
@Loismustdie26 agreed :D
...someone can send me the lyrics??!
this performance is good but doesn't deserve a fussy standing ovation (2:37 38)...I'm just saying...
What do you know? LOL
