  • ShopBot’s Brian Owen uses the PRSalpha ATC to create a mixed media art piece as a gift to his friends who are about to open a coffee shop in Durham, NC called Caballo Rojo (www.caballoroj...)
One of their graphic logos features a stylized horse design that Brian has always liked. The colors in their logo are white, red and gold/tan; “I knew that I wanted to do inlay instead of painting or staining because I like showing off the natural colors of wood and I think they look less superficial than a stain; there's a three-dimensional quality to the surface of wood with the fibers only being semi-opaque; you can see a little ways through the surface of the wood; stain covers that up. When the wood is natural you get to keep that quality.”
The red sun is a piece of Padouk. Copper wire is held in place with drops of superglue in the routed slots. Braided wire ended up being a nice way to catch sunlight over the original choice of solid copper inlay.
