Small Fence to Hide Garbage Cans | How to Build Trash Can Screen

  • HOA's have lots of rules. Trash can placement is one of those. We have run into a rule that requires the trash cans be 10 feet from the corner of the house to keep them "out of sight" from the street. It is all about the letter of the law as moving the trash containers 7 more feet will hardly make them invisible. I needed a solution that will keep the trash cans on a solid service through winter due to mud and snow. With a few simple tools...:
... I was able to build a small fence to hide the garbage cans.
The solution for us was to build a trash can screen, a mock fence or possibly a plant hanger to obstruct the view of the cans. I only bought cedar fence panels or planks to be the bulk of the disguise. The rest of the materials were made up of. various pieces of scrap wood.
To keep it very portable, I attached a hook feature to go through the hand holes of the garbage can. That anchors the trash can and support the fence-like disguise. The purpose is to build a way to screen the trash cans from sight.

So this doesn’t need HOA approval?

      Hey Justin,
All depends on your HOA. So far no more nasty grams from ours. 😃 If they hate it, I would definitely hear!
If we were digging in permanent posts, yes. But this is pretty much a fence decoration/ disguise. Nothing permanent… and they can’t see my trash cans which is the goal of their regulation- or so I believe.
      Thx for watching.
