- Atreyu's brand of poppy metalcore is more irritating and overblown than ever before on their 8th studio album.

Let's be honest. There is no Atreyu without Alex. I love how Brandon has stepped in but they are big shoes to fill. Yes, Alex did write a huge portion of this album before he parted ways. Just imagine what this album would have been like with Alex. I miss him and so does Atreyu. Alex is the only thing this album is missing. Lastly, no idea why this dude is trying to review an album when he had never heard the previous albums. Thats like me picking up one tool album and judging them. Give me me a break.
I mean, go for it. Judge the crap out of Tool. An opinion isn't less or more valid just because somebody is or isn't an expert on the band in question. Hell, I like hearing the opinions of new & fresh listeners because it means they're completely unbiased. They're not worried about certain people being in or out of the band, or the band having a new style, they just listen to the music for what it is and form an opinion independent from the masses.
But more importantly: its my channel and I'll do what I fucking want. Thats why I reviewed it. Plain and simple.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial If you cannot handle feedback and jump off your rocker you should not have a channel. Grow up
Bruh you're having a freakout just because some random dude on the internet isn't an expert on Atreyu, maybe I'm not the one who needs to grow up 🤪

the moment alex left is the moment atreyu died
Even though i have a different opinion on the Album, this was a great review to watch, simply because of how honest of a review it is.
It's got some of their best stuff and worst stuff in one. No matter what is an incredible song and so is Weed. Untouchable is one of their worst I've heard though. But given the nice guitar melodies I think it's worth a listen
I think it’s a good album I had low expectations going in and was pleasantly surprised
Thanks god some one to give a honest review. Album is complete shit.
It's been baptized in swamp water, and when Shrek saw the New Atreyu album he was like, WHAT. ARE. YOU. DOING IN MY SWAMP!!
Can we even call this metalcore? This sounds like the crap you hear on octane radio, more rock than legit metal
whats funny now is that the disney songs are the best ones off the album.
Bad take imo. I know it's common to shit in everything in our culture these days but after not listening to metal or atreyu for the past decade I was pleasantly surprised to listen to this album.
I hate knowing that some people think that this is what “metalcore” is. It really doesn’t deserve the label.
Atreyu might disagree: according to them they invented metalcore ahaha
@@themetalmeltdownofficial *huge eyerolling intensifies*
@@themetalmeltdownofficial debatable for “melodic metalcore”? Certainly an early band of their genre.
@@bygonerenewal6278 Naaahh, Killswitch Engage has two albums out before Atreyu has their first.
Plus I don't really feel like any one band invented it - the melodic influences were always there from At The Gates and In Flames, they just became more prominent in metalcore with time.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial I stand corrected! :)
What have you done?
are you being dramatic or genuinely asking me? Because if its the latter: I'm not sure it would matter what I have or haven't done. You may not be a Michelin-star chef, an Academy Award winning film-maker, or an Olympic athlete, but that doesn't mean you can't have an opinion on food, film, or sports, especially if you've invested time and money into trying to enjoy it. Why should music be any different?
@@themetalmeltdownofficial these guys have been around making music they love since the early 2000’s. So I’m asking you what the fuck have you been doing since then besides YouTubing shitting reviews?
@@Sammy-gc8ji In that case, I've already answered your question: It doesn't and shouldn't matter what I have or haven't done. I'm allowed to dislike an album, same as you're allowed to dislike a plate of food or a film or a sport despite, I'm assuming, you not being a chef, a film-maker, or an athlete.
Atreyu is dead. #LongLiveAtreyuWithAlex
Yeah, it's pretty bad. Mix is baffling off and choruses get ear-gratingly repetitive. Sadly, I can't say it's the worst I've heard this year because I at least liked a couple of songs (weed and baptize), which is more than I can say for a lot of albums. Btw, the gold standard Atreyu album for me is Lead Sails, Paper Anchor. Might be worth a listen as a comparison when compiling your worst of the year list, lol.
Great review The Metal Meltdown. I liked their 2nd album The Curse a lot personally, but except for that their music is pretty forgettable aside from a couple of songs here and there.
I'm a true Atreyu fan. I've listened to them since the beginning and I also like music that isn't Metalcore.
My Atreyu Album Tier List
1. The Curse
2. Lead Sails Paper Anchor
3. A Death-Grip On Yesterday
4. Congregation of the Damned
5. Long Live
6. Baptize
7. In Our Wake
8. Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses
I love all of these albums though and own them all on CD.
Lead Sails is a masterpiece!
LoL, your missing 2 albums from the "True" discography. 1. Animals & 2. Fractures of the facade in your porcelain beauty... And my List GOES ... SUICIDE NOTES ...
FRACTURES...
THE CURSE
LONG LIVE..... , THE REST I threw out since they're all garbage. I will give you 3 songs from death grip, the Underworld soundtrack, 2 songs on lead sails, and 3 songs on Congregation.... ? I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THERE WAS HOPE OF ATREYU RETURNING TO ORIGINS WITH LONG LIVE! AS THAT WHOLE ALBUM IS A BANGER, EXCEPT FOR 'DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE?!!!! I DISAGREE WITH THIS REVIEW AS ALEX V! KEPT ATREYU METAL CORE, Brandon, "JUST DOESN'T CARE WHAT THE PEOPLE THINK, WHEN THEY EXPERIMENT, AS HE IS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR BAND GOING SIDEWAYS! ALEX V. HAS A NEW BAND DEAD ICARUS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, SUPPOSED TO BE BRUTAL AF, AND ALEX DID VOCALS WITH BLEEDING THROUGH! AS FOR SONGS OF BLEEDING THROUGH WITH ALEX V! How I know this is in 2000 I started listening to Atreyu to get into HARDCORE... SO, IT'S SAFE TO SAY ALEX DID NOT WANT TO MERGE IN THE ROCK YET ALONE LIGHT ROCK GENRE..
my album tier list has to be
1. In Our Wake
2. The Curse
3. Lead Sails Paper Anchor
4. Suicide Notes & Butterfly Kisses
5. Baptize
6. A Death-Grip On Yesterday
7. Congregation Of The Damned
8. Long Live
you are a completen idiot for having suicide notes and butterflyn kisses on 8. 1,8,3 is their only good work.
Lead Sails is their best work so I would replace 1 and 2. I might even put Congregation at number 2. Their mainstream stuff was so unique. Even though they were near the head of the metalcore/post hardcore scene, and made it bigger, I personally prefer the more melodic style. But I do love Curse and Death Grip to death . Newer stuff is okay too. In Our Wake is good. Baptized is ehh. Long Live was okay but felt Green Day when they tried to do the pure punk stuff and felt flat and uninspired. Much better than those Green Day trilogy albums of course by far. But still it's how I felt. Just a step back after waiting what felt like 10 years
I haven't listen the album nor i have plans to do it. I'm just gonna parrot what someone said in another review and say this somehow defies logic by blowing and sucking at the same time.
That sums it up perfectly
I Tried listening to this album
This just sounds like if Bullet For My Valentine and Falling in Reverse tried to switch Genres, and failed miserably, and if this is Metalcore, then Killswitch Engage is Death Metal
Also, Baptize? well i certainly need holy water so i can forget the last 15-20 minutes not hearing any of their songs
So you don’t know/like Atreyu… so you do a review? …makes sense. This album is good.
Last I checked there's no rule saying somebody has to be an expert or mega-fanboy in order to review an album, so yeah it does make sense.
It's definitely not good and your logic is incredibly flawed. Double fail.
Geez and I'm trying to quit drinking lol. I saw this came out, but haven't listened to it yet. I'm not a huge fan. I like a couple songs, but this style of metal isn't really my thing.
How can you say an album is the worst one a band has put out if you haven’t listened to all their albums?
My exact words: "But even so, despite my extremely limited knowledge of and experience with Atreyu, I feel remarkably comfortable telling you that Baptize is Atreyu's worst album yet". Pretty sure this makes it clear that while I may not have heard EVERY single album, I think this is the worst of the ones I have listened to.
Catastrophe’s chorus sounds like let it go from frozen. I truly believe unless this gets some serious radio play, atreyu will be shelved again. It’s time to move on. I used to love atreyu but the heart and soul left when Alex did. This is so overproduced and the levels are crazy!! This is like every metalcore cliche mashed into one album
It was as if fall out boy tried to go 2005 metalcore...its got a couple of ok dad rock songs, but its mostly bad. I agree with the shit mixing as well..some of the choruses made my eye twitch when they kicked in lol
Dad rock is not a genre and is a very stupid cliche. Im saying this to everybody not just you. No offense.
easily their top 3 albums. This guy has a diff opinion but wow as a life long atreyu fan cant believe this wasn't for you.
Top 3 albums?? You've known atreyu since suice notes and think this is top 3? U must not like heavier atreyu. Because this albums isn't even top 5. This doesn't even beat lead sails, that's hard to lose to lol.

Great album!!
Check out Coffin Lurker! That’ll cheer you up, mate
I liked it. It’s not 2008 atreyu but not horrible. It’s obvious they been going more poppy
You're right but I'm gonna have to _heeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaavily_ disagree with you on the notion that In Our Wake is their strongest album lol. That goes to The Curse and/or Deathgrip for me. I liked Visions too but that doesn't count unfortunately because no one knows it exists anymore.
Congregation of the Damned and Long Live are more solid
Have a good day at work
So is the new guy trying to sound like Alex? I mean that's pretty obvious right lol
Honestly I do like “Save Us” and “Warrior” off this record, but the rest is so just meh.
I will say this though. I’m not gonna hold it against them for doing a verse/chorus/verse/chorus/breakdown/chorus song structure on pretty much every song because well…”you play the song, not the instrument” ya know? You gotta do what’s best for the song, and Atreyu has always stuck pretty close to that formula in their songwriting, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
The problem comes in with the execution of that formula, and for the most part it’s pretty much just…again, meh. Shit, both Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel are both phenomenal guitarists and this record doesn’t utilize them like it should. It feels bare bones.
This band was never great not sure why i kinda liked them back in 2004 /2006 lets say i not a fan anymore.
The curse was badass
I feel really unclean and dirty somehow are listening to a album that is ironically called Baptized. Much like I said about the New Devil Wears Prada this is NyquilCore. Music so boring and bland it puts you to sleep, hoping you forget about the whole experience. 0.5/5
Wait what's wrong with Zombie 2 from The Devil Wears Prada !?
I have a completely different view of the album yes some parts of it arent so good but honestly its about how difficult it is to make music now days with how many people dont like some stuff and other dont like other bits no one is ever gonna be happy with bands music choices but honestly ive heard worse songs then whats on this album
Underrated is the only song I liked from the album. Great for working out
This albums full of good Atreyu. It's completely in line with their brand, which you yourself confess to not knowing much about. If you wanted more Atreyu from this album, that's exactly what you get. When I wanna listen to Atreyu music, I listen to Atreyu, and this album more than scratches that itch.

You have a really bad opinion of this album. It's like you wanted to hate it before listening to it.
Fasten your seats
The singles were terrible and that's coming from someone that doesn't like this band all that much. Their old material was ok but nothing to write home about but this new album had 4 terrible singles so I don't think I'll like the full album.
A wise decision
What their first two albums were vs the rest of their discography... man.. I graduated high school in 2004. Those first two albums were everything to me at that moment. I understand that all creatives have their own ideas of art and crap but.. man.. what a let down.
Should of listened to lead sail paper anchor. Definitely their best album
Oof I don't know about that m8. There's maybe 3 decent songs on that album and 1 good song. This was the start of their decline.
Idk man. I felt like a good portion of the album was great. Some songs could've been better but for the most part, it wasn't a bad album. The energy of the songs had power to them. I will agree that the structure of the songs was very bland but that doesn't make the songs bad. Just less innovative than other bands. And you thought In Our Wake was their best album? Are you joking? They had good albums up to Congregation of the Damned. Long Live wasn't bad but the screams were terrible in that album. In Our Wake felt more radio than all of their previous albums combined.
You're doing a review of modern music while wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt. You fit the "music stopped being good after the 80s" stereotype while you blast Megadeth or listen to Steve Vai guitar solos. But nothing in this current era of music. God no!
Yes, because hating a single Atreyu record obviously means I hate all modern music, solid logic there lol
Behemoth necklace!
Album is great.
oblivion is the best song off the album the rest are not very good
I guess I'll bite the "minority" bullet. Bands change and evolve. Atreyu has been heading towards more and more Saller vocals as they came along. This was the next logical stage for them. If you like what Atreyu was... Go back. I for one came in late to the game and I'm glad I did. If I'd had listened to the first album or two... I'd not have come back. I really like this album. Catastrophe kinda threw me as it went from "heavy" to "Katy perry", but it still gets in my head. I read another comment mentioning "dad metal" and I probably fall into that pairing. I like heavy guitars, driving drums, and some good bass runs... But I prefer to understand the vocalist and hear some melody. Avenged Sevenfold is another I listen to a lot lately.
This is a catastrophe of an album thank god i listened to Flotsam and Jetsam over those Disney metalcore garbage
0/5
Good decision
0/5! FUCK THIS ALBUM! This album is equally as bad as A Day to Remember's new album, You're Welcome, which came out in March!
I love Atreyu I know Brandon Porter Julia/Porter’s wife and Travis

2. Long live
3 Suicide Notes
4. Congration of the damned

I absolutely loved this album, but gotta agree that warrior must be one of the worst songs ive ever heard lol
I liked it but I feel like the song was a mixed opportunity I love the zero version of the song though
Hated it. Not sure what they were thinking axing Alex.
Brandon's fault probably. Stupid long choruses gave Alex less time on each song. Brandon aired him out.
this album was fantastic, not sure what the issue is. It might not be old atreyu, but it is certainly good atreyu. idk maybe I'm weird I guess
A lot of bands change after being around for so long sometime they just start losing there old vocals can’t be as hard
This is a great album. Period
Still better than “In our Wake” imo

back in the early 00s was into a lot of melodic metalcore which I think is still really good (early Killswitch, AILD, A7F, God forbid). Went to a show where Norma Jean opened and left as soon as these tools came on. We got through 1.5 songs and just thought it was shit.
