  • Sandbanks on the Dorset coast has become one of the most EXPENSIVE places to live in the world! with Harry Redknapp's previous home which is for sale for £10 million! Why has this sand dune turned into a magnet for the uber wealthy and is now awash with multi-million pound properties, fast cars and fancy yachts?

    I lived in Poole for 30 years, Shore Road, and the beaches were my playground. I had a 30-foot yacht moored in the harbor off Evening Hill until one day a storm dragged it off its mooring and damaged it. I was a resident DJ at both the Sandbanks Hotel and Haven Hotel I was buddies with the owner Paul Butterworth. My friend owned the Scandinavian-designed house Pieces Of Eight complete with an indoor swimming pool, those were the days in the mid-60s Sandbanks was not so developed. We had a beach hut next to the Pavillion there was no problem with parking. John Lennon was a visitor to Sandbanks as his aunt Mimi owned a bungalow not far from the Ferry. I used to sail my yacht to Old Harry Rocks bay drop anchor go ashore with the tender and go horse riding on top of the cliffs at Old Harry. Just watching your videos brought back all the memories, especially Shore Road beach where we would hang out. Times they are a Changin. Thanks for the memories.

    Lived in Poole all my life. Before my friends moved back to the USA they lived on Panorama Road next door to Harry Redknapp. They used to let us stay there when they were away which was often. Spent many fun times in the summer in their back garden watching the boats come and go. 😊

      @@WalkWithMeTim yeah £10million and does the owner have IQ score as highs my 165 which is five points higher than Ernestine and five points shy of dr. Carl Sagan .
      did you know sandbanks is famous for ... .... - -- - .... -.. -... i live only about 7.2 miles distance away from new haven hotel where Guglielmo Marconi of world first many radio transmissions . and takes me clam cycle ride about 40 mins to reach yet my CB radio signal would reach that distance instantly at the speed of light and any radio transmission travels up to the ionosphere 40 to 400 miles above then around the planet at speed of light in just 1 second around the planet x7 times , just 1 second my signal can travel around the planet x7 times . don't get any tech than that . if conditions are balanced can speak to other counties and sound and signal strength as they are down the road . radio or CB and ham radio is the first social media and still is to this day . every kiddie today only wants a mobile phone . even send data on CB radio with certain device but on HF band would take while where's higher the frequency band data sends faster .
      yeah i'm sure most who maybe richer than myself didn't even know this .

    n the 1960s 70s it was a wonderful place, John Lennon bought his aunt a home in Panorama Rd. My dad wanted to buy the little garage repairs for 25000 pound but my mum objected. Pleased to see your video as I left Bournemoth 28 years ago to live in a less crowded paradise New Zealand. The chains of the ferry guide it not pull it

    I struggle to understand why these houses are so expensive, most of them look quite tacky IMO. So they’re on the coast, so are many other areas of the UK. Personally I feel it’s hype over quality.

    • @krob2327
      @krob2327 Před rokem +2

      I agree somewhat but I don’t think it will ever not be popular. I think it’s the idea of a gated community. They probably feel safer there but it’s obviously very detached from reality... some of the driveways need more greenery imo. All that space on them and just blocked paving

    • @stephenguppy7882
      @stephenguppy7882 Před 8 měsíci

      I agree totally. Let's face it, would you fork out 10 or 12 million quid to live next door to Harry Redknapp? Nice bloke but.......
      I remember before the area was developed. There was very little there and it was dirt cheap.

    • @TM-mk2zb
      @TM-mk2zb Před 6 dny

      It’s a combination of finite supply of land, incredible views of the Dorset coast, and some of the best beach in the uk. The value of the properties is the land, the houses change style every 10-20 years and get redeveloped regularly. There’s plenty of seaside locations in the UK but nothing quite like sandbanks.

    Been lucky enough to live in the poole area for 30 years and now in christchurch. Sitting on a public bench next to the ferry on the sandbanks side is a joy that I find myself doing most weekends when the weathers lovely, the views looking towards the purbeck side are truely amazing and as good a view as anywhere in the UK. My advice to tourist travelling in a car would be to take time to park up on the sandbanks side and do the same thing with a cuppu from the local cafe as you won't be aloud out of your car while on the ferry for the short ferry crossing in either direction.

    I lived/worked in Bournemouth about 10 years ago. I walked along the beach to the ferry a few times (at a cost of £1!) and went to Shell Bay. It was so quiet over there, on days when people were squashed like sardines on Bournemouth beach.

    Stayed in many places within Poole and Sandbanks over the last 30 years. Infact, I am here in a multi million £ vacation place as I write this. Believe me when I say that the idea that Sandbanks is always full of people and traffic is not true. During the high season, maybe, but for a lot of the year, it is really quiet. It is one of the best places in the world.

    I'm often in Poole to visit relatives. intend to move there in a few years. Here's the thing, there are nicer parts of Poole then Sandbanks or Grand designs Island as I call it. For every millionaire house there's still a bungalow inhabited by a retired couple who have no intention of moving. Then there's the matter of getting on and off the place, one B road so good luck at the height of summer. I'm not saying it's not a nice place but if you want a view go to Upton park looking out over Holes bay. The owner of the hotel apparently wanted to knock it down and rebuild as it wasn't that great looking. Rusting railings on the balcony's. I've always said Sandbanks was the biggest estate agent con job ever as I remember going there 35 years ago before it started to change. Saying that if I ever got invited to one of the millionaires houses I wouldn't say no. Good video though

    I love to get the ferry from Sandbanks, walk up along Studland beach, stop in Studland village for a pint then up past Old Harry's Rocks and follow the coast path into Swanage for fish n chips, another pint or two to wash them down and if I've timed it right and there's room I catch the boat back to Poole Quay, if not its the open top bus and more great views.
    A word of warning for anyone doing this, Harry's aren't the only old rocks you might see as you'll pass through a stretch of nudist beach.

I was thinking can u imagine you been dropped off and had heavy night drinking and got walk up the driveway but it's not any ordenanery drive way as you have walk through forest looks like. At 5:19 you can see that the rental price for the property that you point out in the estate agent's window is actually a jaw-dropping £11,550/week, much higher than the £7K figure that you state (you're looking at the price for the property below). My father was one of the managers of the Haven Ferry shop in the 1960s, so during that era I spent a lot of time on the Sandbanks peninsula as a child, and although the beach was always busy, when I walked around the residential area it was peaceful. For me it's depressing to see how the peninsula has changed, although I realise that most people will prefer the more upmarket look of the area nowadays. The old ferry doesn't look as though it's changed since the 1960s though! Thanks for making the video Tim, it's well produced.

    I was there last week on holiday meeting old friends - went to Swanage so queued up along millionaires row -it is so beautiful and so expensive and so likely to be flooded in 50 years thanks to rising sea levels. Harry Redknapp lives there and the idea that Mike Ashley could have tempted him to the wilds of Northumberland to manage the Toon always makes me giggle

      There's so much money in Sandbanks that there will most likely be protection to prevent flooding in a worse case scenario. Agreed, Sandbanks will be still there in 50+ years.

    I have my eye on a big mansion here in Dundee for the day I win the lottery, but I've always wanted a house in Poole too after seeing a video of Sandbanks years ago. It was some sort of promo video and until it said Dorset, UK I had been thinking it was somewhere in Florida.
    Yeah, that'll do nicely, Mansion 1 up here, Mansion 2 in Poole, and a big yacht nearby.
