Happy 70th Birthday Debora Kay Iyall 29 April 1954
Romeo Void "Never say never" Love that song..
Yes, that girl with the baby face is now 70.
Many, many more Debora
The Mama Cass voice of punk rock. And that's a compliment.
RIP Benjamin Bossi; your saxophone sent this band into orbit
Looking it up, I found that indeed Benjamin Bossi, the phenomenal sax player for Romeo Void, passed away. It was on December 13, 2022.
@@richardd.iyallcowlitzelder1255 Rest in a musical paradise Mr Bossi, thanks for the music you provided this world...
I saw them live in our local "alternative" venue back around 1984. I was so excited as I loved the band, and the sax. Sorry to hear of his passing.
Still have Romeo Void cassette from 1984!
Under appreciated at the time Romeo Void would rule like gods today.
So much fun slam dancing in the club to this song! Miss you 80's 😢
You haven't lived until you've danced to this track in a dance club with huge speakers. It's awesome. The energy, really electrifies the dance floor in a palpable way. I heard it played once a few years ago after some lame track nearly cleared the floor and it changed the atmosphere immediately. Their track, "A Girl in Trouble (is a Temporary Thing) is also excellent,.
That tortured sound of the sax was a big part of the band and sound. Love it
Thank you, K-ROQ! They rocked Romeo Void, The Waitresses, Social Distortion...too many to list. Romeo Void!!
When Kroq was awesome! Don't forget Boingo, the b-52s even some Dk. Great times.
There's way too many to list. KROQ ruled the SoCal airwaves from 1977 to 1990. 1983 was heaven. I'd trade all my tomorrows for one month in 1983. Let's not forget Dusty and Jed the Fish. Gary Myrick & The Figures - She Talks In Stereo, Psychedelic Furs, Debbie Harry, The Human League, The Clash, I could go on forever. KROQ could play 24/7 with not one bad song. NEW WAVE !!!!! Not to mention the club scene in Hollywood and Santa Monica. Madame Wong's, Florentine Gardens.
BACK WHEN REAL PEOPLE PLAYED REAL INSTRUMENTS
I like how many likes and how many responses this post got over 3 years. Nothing to be explained here. Lmao. The tribe absolutely wrecked the U.S. for selfish globalist purposes.
They sound great live!!! And that Sax player is off the charts!!!!
I agree! That's Benjamin Bossi on the sax! He was phenomenal!
this group was great they never got the accalades they deserved just wanna say thank you for the entertainment it was great
Loved all their music. I got to see them in concert 3 times in Portland.
Record execs pulled plug when they saw how she didn't fit their mold. How absolutely wrong they were. Indeed she would have been the absolute queen of freaking everything if they just pushed it a bit.
Oh sweet Debora, the most intriguing woman of the 80’s…I love her. That voice!
I never would've made it in life without their music during my youth.
I actually met them at an in store promotion at Tower Records in Concord California and have been a fan since. Great home grown band.
Back when the music and bands were awesome!! Romeo Void held there own against the competition back then with groups like Scandal, Quarterflash, Til Tuesday. and Face to face B just to name a few!! RV was my favorite!!!
This performance was taped in 1982 on the A&E TV show "An Evening At The Improv" in Los Angeles.
Bass and drum combination is beautiful. What a kick ass band
As a former pro studio drummer, I know how good and tight the drum and bass rhythm section must be for the song to cook. And these two here knock it out! On record they're even more impressive.
The best band I have ever seen LIVE
Omg when this song would play at the club everyone hit the dance floor! I was pushed off at on point haha
She's making quite the statement with the lyrics there, not the fluffy 80s pop song that a lot of people thought it was. They should have been huge.
I love her! She's a mega talent.
I always forget just much I loved Romeo Void. Ah my childhood.
That saxophone player has enough energy to power the sun!
How I miss the 80's. Romeo Void, B-52's, R.E.M., etc., etc. , what more can I say.
@@vincentpontius5065 and if ya cant relate to irs then u dont have much of a record collection
I call them the best years. I was alive to experience them all and it was amazing!
What a great song! I miss " real bands and music" ☹️
A total Eighties banger, one of the best from that decade. In a class by itself.
Great Rock Band, they didn't get their due. Saw them every chance I got. Love, Love them.
This is an excellent upload. Thanks, man. Great quality.
That sax player is on fire
Remember watching this original broadcast and never forgot it. So happy to find it again!! Still great.
excellent version!!! Great overlooked band....
Unfortunately drugs and alcohol got the beautiful boy in white. Send him good energy as he was/is a beautiful soul.
What a gem! Thanks for recovering this bit of musical history.
Fascinating 🥰
Jesus Christ! Was that audience sedated? - I would have been bouncing off the walls!
New wave wasn't popular in the 80s. When I would tell them what bands I liked they would say "what". I wore an oingo boingo shirt in Santa Cruz, CA in 1984 and people my age were asking me, what's that (I was a teen).
@@deadmanswife1 All clubs and bars every day on the menu in Athens Greece even disco clubs at least 15 songs of the Rock scene Punk etc etc
@@lastnamefirst4035 80s was dominated by pop and rock (you can look this up but I lived it) meaning that high sales came from Madonna, Michael Jackson, Donna Summers, Kenny Rogers (lol), Prince, Olivia Newton John, Debbie Gibson, etc. There were very few new wave bands that made it into the top (and some of these listed are stretching the meaning of what new wave was) like the police, Joan Jett, Blondie, Men at Work, The Bangles. I started listening to new wave in 1980 (introduced by a friend since there was nothing on the radio, I lived in LA south bay area and kroq wasn't a thing, even after they switch formats their signal sucked until 83) and I can tell you that it wasn't popular and 90 percent of high school students (I started HS in 1980) weren't listening to it (none of the rock stations played it until 83 and it was limited to the big bands as noted above). It got better by 85 (when they started using new wave in movies cause it was cheap) but again, sales were all pop and rock. It was great, actually or I would've had a hard time getting concert tickets with good seats (getting my drivers license was great) for 12 dollars (tshirts were also 12 dollars) while others paid scalpers for madonna.
It's funny that young people of today think the 80s was all about new wave, since it's gotten popular(I hear it at the supermarket, makes me chuckle every time), but most of the fans were in the fringe groups (it was the same in europe).
When this song was popular she was still a school teacher teacher during a day rocker at night she had an awesome voice Don't know if she still around
I thought the teaching came after, but who knows.. I know she was teaching art until a few years ago
Ben playing and visibly and genuinely having such a good time makes me happy. RIP❤
Awesome!! Love Romeo Void!!!
This band got shafted so hard. They were electric and should have been bigger!
Dude knows how to blow that horn
Rest in peace Ben Bossi 🎷 your music will live on
Love, love Romeo Void!!
A hell of a lot better than Madonna.
Yet madonna was on mtv vh1 rolling around in lingerie. It was all about sex not music
Great band - great vocals - D Iyall! Totally "go-to" pick!!!
Loved this band so much. God bless you Benjamin. Opened for them years ago in Balto. Unique band.
HFS, they were so good back in their day. I swear that if I got one chance to go back to my twenties and had one chance to dance to one song from back then, this would be the one.
HFS, indeed! I don't think they got the notoriety they deserved. Debora's voice gives me goosebumps (no voice enhancement or autotune there). The guitar, drums, and that sax are all perfect. The sax is like its own lead singer.
Late niight partying in college in the mid 80's to this band was a unique experience. This song caused a lot of crazy fun dancing, Thanks for rocking it!
Cool!! New wave punk at it's greatest. Loved all the indie punk bands/singers of the 80s. Didn't matter to me if they didn't have big hits or win grammys or have their picture on Rolling Stone. They will always hold on special place in my heart. I miss the 80s. I wanna go back. These days are terrible & deadly.
Every day I wake up and I wish I had a time machine that'd take me back to 1984 or thereabouts!
Back in the 1980's I listened to WNUR 89.3 from Northwestern University and they played this tune without bleeping the F word. Excellent tune. BTW, I'm 75, I was born Feb 1946.
Dead Milkmen (Philly scene) same time !! Check 'em..."Big Lizard" (in my back yard) "Bitchin Camero"
Thank you for sharing this rare gem!!
What a song! What a group! I miss them!
Saw them live in Copenhagen Denmark back in 1985, one of my fav groups ❤
Punk at its purest. Love it.
BEST SONG EVER. Used to sing it loud with my headphones on working graveyard at the post office. never never say never.
That sax is awsome 😍
I saw Romeo Void at The Barn on the campus of UCR and when this song started the whole place was up and dancing.
blast from the past! take me back! this tune never gets old!😎
I saw them live many times. Great experience
Thank you❤️👍
The whole group is extremely talented
Much has been said about the singer's thicker appearance/ but I'm sure her Dance Card was more than full of suitors back in the day !!!###
thanks! Loved this band, saw them when they were smoking! sharing...
if this song came out 20 years ago it would kill. They were way to ahead of their times with this one.
Iconic…
They Rock!
the elites shouned you but you were fantastic your voice was great enjoyed you all fuch the main stream you should have gone way futher thankk you for what you recorded
I adore Deborah!
Great band. I love Debora- the voice! the lyrics! the presence!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
Love it!!! Great band!
Anyone remember WHSF that used to play this kind of music in the DC area?? Went to several
HFestivals. Weasel!
Perfect rock performance
I don't know what it is about this song but it really grabs me.
Where's the audience? They should be gettin it!😍🔥😍🔥
Awesome
There are a lot like the Motels ,with Martha .they considered her OLD but that's what we are saying here .And Lovely Dale Bozzio ,who was very far ahead of her time.
WWoow this is very, very Gothic
The sax player clearly does not need to be sober to shine! 😁
love
great post punk band, cool song, cool lyrics
they auditioned for Clive Davis. He and his entourage walked out on the band when he saw her come out onstage. He never even listened to them.
I have always LOVED this song. It’s soooo freaken bad azzzz.
Louie Beeson! Your live mixes were always incredible! I will always love you and miss you!
In Movie "Last American Virgin" Lyrics of Song and one of the Scenes goes so well Together Cracks me up .Movie is 80s Classic
So love this band still !!!!🎉❤🎉
That singer’s great.
Please come back romeo..
Such a kick-Ass song
My youth
This is a great song, but they have so many others...White Sweater, Talk Dirty, Just Too Easy, Wrap it up...Not sure I can choose a favorite. White Sweater, maybe?
I just discovered the track "One Thousand Shadows".... That one is up to par with the rest of the tracks you mentioned... an achingly beautiful song..
They did have a lot of great songs! I really loved: "I Mean It".
I wish they would perform again.
Just fantastic......
💥❤️LOVE ROMEO VOID BAND 1984
Goddamn that was awesome
Temon!!
Love this so much!
My cousin Benjamin Bossi was an awesome sax player. Wish we had more connected before he passed. RIP Ben - Karl Bossi
Not only did your cousin play great, He looked like He was having a really good time.
He was a lovely guy, too. What we called "a fun hang" back in the day.
I saw them live in Rochester NY in early 80s - he was FABULOUS. A great nightclub memory.
Saw him with the Furs last summer he was excellent. RIP
@@wwbuirkle you're thinking of Mars Williams who recently passed.
