Today I am playing a new game focused on the Chernobyl Disaster, in which you assume the role of a worker who found himself caught up in the disaster, marching to his inevitable fate. Hear my opinions as we explore this short game by Radiointeractive Studios.

Why do the signs say ЦЩУ instead of БЩУ? ЦЩУ refers to the central control room.

@@MinSredMash I didn't make those signs, but I am in the process of correcting them. We will also be adding in an explorable Unit 4 control room in a future update.

Part of the Golden Corridor was already 'golden' in 1986. Not exactly sure which parts already had the panels installed, though.

Not really nit picking if the designer is trying to build a game about Chernobyl. The information, plans, layout are easily available now. So it should be changed to better reflect the reality.

5:03 looks like the tunnel between power house 1 and 2 in Fort Peck Montana USA (hydro power)
    .
ive taken about 30 tours over the years..... (easy to do as i live 5 miles away)
its amazing how similar power plants are.... even across countries and build dates (late 30s/1970s or 80s)

I was hoping that at some point you would tackle any number of the games based on Chernobyl. I know that you're primarily a documentarian, but any of the fictional portrayals of Chernobyl in games offers an interesting lense from which to view the monumental impact this event had on the world. Someone with your expertise is exactly who I'd like to see do more of these so we can get your perspective on the topic. Have you seen Painticus's video "The Best Lovecraftian Game" on the first Stalker game? The section on Stalker is impeccably written and made me view the game in a completely new light, drawing comparisons between it and the mythos created by H.P. Lovecraft. It's worth every second of your time and more.

That sign on the roof of the control room says ЦЩУ-3 (central control room 3), a room that doesn't exist. It should say БЩУ-3 (block control room 3).

So I assume reaching the reactor is about the extent of the experience? I like the idea that it's short I just would hope there's some sense of conclusion.
A really cool thing I hope gets explored more in gaming is the idea of either experiencing through participation, or being a fly on the wall to, accurately modeled historical events. The idea that a lot of events can be rendered fairly accurately in both location (for the power plant here we have considerable documents showing the layout and appearance of the plant both before and after the incident) and timeline (we have more-or-less a good timeline for who did what, when, and how for incidents such as this.) A lot of games seem to turn real events into 'fun' gameplay in the sort of Call of Duty or Assassins' Creed approach. But few are set to run a more-or-less pre defined re-enactment that we can follow along at our own pace.
Such a concept may be beyond the scope of this game project, but it certainly opens up my thinking to contemplate it.

Do I understand this correctly: The RBMK does not have a containment structure by default, but other reactors have? So, if they were to blow up, the sarcophagus would basically already be there? No need to build it afterwards under such dire circumstances?

I keep hearing about how the two trainees were sent to manually lower the rods but nobody ever explains how that was supposed to be done. Was it a manual crank or something like that in the central hall?

    • @stratiosastero6880
      @stratiosastero6880 Před 4 měsíci +2

yes you just dislodge the rods from the connector and they fall like stone. you need manually so you go to each channel and lift the control rod cap then you access the mechanism

@@user-nc3uk4pm3z when control rod is fully extracted its not outside reactor plates but top of the rod ends under these caps,if you lift the cap with rod fully extracted you can dislodge the mechanism and rod will fall back to core,if you want pull the rod out of core you just attach hook and use crane to lift it up i think because refuelling machine was probably not supposed to lift control rods but might be wrong and refueling machine could insert control rods aswell.
if control rods would stick out of reactor plate in full extracted the workers would impale themselves on them if they slipped up.

Impressive! It's nice to see a non-zombie Chernobyl game. I purchased Chernobylite just to get a "tour" of the area (as they did photogrammetry or scanned of the area). I also like that you based your game on one of the Chernobyl heroes...so many brave souls. There are so many great mini non-zombie "games" that you could do.
