- This bedroom hadn't been cleaned in over 4 years! Why? Well, it involved mice and a ton of garbage and toys. We wanted to give an 11-year-old girl her bedroom back. We cleaned it for FREE. We're happy to help. With this little girl, giving her a bedroom, her own space back was so worth the work (it took about 6 hours total). Cleaning this room is the most SATISFYING cleaning transformation ever!!

That is where I was with my house.... I would take one look and loose all modivation because I did not know where to begin. I started watching videos like this and would tackle a spot at a time, before I knew it I had two rooms down... A few more to go, but these do help motivate people... Just start in on corner at a time... Start small and before you know it, you will be done...

I do extreme couponing and now we've started clearance shopping and doing pallet sales....what was just one room in my house for all our couponing adventures has spilled out into our den, dining room, and living room, not to mention you can't even get in the couponing room anymore. We started to tackle this nonsense last weekend and gave up because, as you said, it's overwhelming and you don't know where to start. Now we've decided to start in the living room and work towards the back of the house. Listing things on the Facebook market and throwing away things that are broken. Eventually, everything will be where it needs to be and things that don't belong will be gone. It's just a matter of starting, getting the motivation to start, and not being overwhelmed before you can even begin!
Soooooooo much money down the toilet....there was lovely things thrown away...as a person who isnt rich it broke my heart how careless these parents were! I just hope they learn from tgis and appreciate the hard work from these ladies...

The mouse problem is not limited to the bedroom. This did not happen overnight. All kids should be taught how to clean and return items to the proper home. Will she keep the room clean? She has some serious hoarding issues.
It's probably the parent starting the issue and the hoarding comes from stress and overwhelm. The whole family needs therapy and help.

Wow. Amazing transformation. I hope the family gets help and your gift is amazing. I do disagree on the mice issue. They need traps and an exterminator while its being cleaned 2 mice = 200 quickly.
You are both so kind in the way you interact with the family. It’s sad to see peoples homes get to this condition for whatever reason. Hopefully they can keep on top of things in the future 🙏💕
My mom had me cleaning tasks (dusting, vacuuming, emptying the waste baskets) at 10 yrs. old. I helped with doing the dishes, too. I got an allowance weekly, if I did my chores. Taught me how to appreciate cleanliness, tidiness and a job well done. Kids today are not learning life skills.
*THAT CARPET SHOULD HAVE BEEN STEAM CLEANED FOR RODENT MICROBES *
It's the parents' responsibility to teach those skills though.
My mom and dad had me and my other 4 siblings cleaning too. No allowance or anything. It taught me a lot on how to be independent ig on the tidy side.
I do the same with my son, since he was little. He cleans better than I do now.
That carpet - of all things - is what needed to go. Personally I’d replace with anything other than carpet, and get a washable throw rug - indoor / outdoor rug. Hoarding is an obsessive compulsive disorder that needs medical care. I’m glad they’re getting the support they need.
O.k. one last comment: you ladies treated the immediate 'symptoms' of disorganization. The REAL issue is that child needs structure to stay organized. I can't imagine the emotional stress that impacts her.
I was thinking the same thing. This is more than just a messy bedroom. This seems like hoarding habits that weren't being confronted. I'm hoping this family will get the help they need.

You ladies provided a great blessing for them - another blessing would be honest, non-judgmental professional therapy to help Mom and Daughter understand how and why things got this way.
Way outside of what we do but I do wish we could bring in a psychologist. Just because it’s so common and people can learn a lot about the mental health aspect of cleaning.
Please, I'm not being mean. I just want to suggest, have you ever recommended therapy for hording and/or messiness. I know some people have a problem with it. You guys coming in and doing this amazing job may only last a short while before it's right back to how it was. Especially after seeing how she lives in the guest bedroom. Poor girl needs cleaning lessons - literally. And again, please don't take me wrong. I'm Not trying to be mean. I just wanted to make a few helpful suggestions.

You did a great job! You mentioned that you did a lot of disinfecting. How do you disinfect the carpet? Do you use the steam vac or shampoo vacuum?
I don't understand for the life of me why the home owner hasn't bought mouse traps or done something in 2 years to get rid of the mice. That's just laziness to me. You guy's did an awesome job on the room.
mom had a medical condition that caused her to overheat and faint from overexertion, that’s what kept her from tidying, however mouse traps are easy to set up, it’s also easy to catch the mice themselves with proper traps and seal off points of entry. honestly should’ve just called an exterminator smh

The mouse zappers are the best pest control when overwhelmed with them. They are humane and easy to remove deceased pests and reset.

When I stack books that are not bone dry (air dry, not just wiped), afterwards I can't separate them without tearing the paper covers or dust jackets.

Went to the tractor supply, and sold me some stuff to get rid of mice, they were gone, in proudly a week. Well, you Ladies did a wonderful job, the room is beautiful.👍👍👍♥️♥️💕💕

What we didn't say is how many times people commit to having us come clean and how many cancel right before. When I said that, the mom admitted she wanted to. She experienced a lot of anxiety but she's ready. It's a big deal to get help when you're embarrassed and overwhelmed.

Now since I've been through so much I too struggle with being able to get and keep my room clean and I have a cousin who's entire home is in desperate need of help. She struggles so much since her Dad died and she's been taking care of her mom and all the while her house has gotten worse

When I was about the same age I had a roof rat in my bedroom, so I borrowed a cat from a friend and within a couple of weeks she caught the rat!
I think this is why we have so many cats lol

I would get rid of carpet too. And no more eating in the bedroom - just asking for trouble.
Throw everything away …they need to invest in some quality pest pest control somebody to go around patch up holes and put traps in place and put on Isolation gear when dealing with mice droppings
The mice haven't come back. We did throw away so much. Even the mattress. I'm proud of them for getting rid of so much. We prefer to keep what's still useful, donate what's in good shape and throw out the rest.
We're a buy and throw away society. Their house is actually well done and mostly just needs cleaning. Until the rest of the house is cleaned, mice will still have a home there, too.

We were on a limited time mission to clean. We only had so many hours to give. We’re not exterminators…but cleaning up will help eliminate food sources. There was so much more to do than we could do…
My father was a psychologist for the state. He often would go into homes like this and the children would need to be removed - or at least a remediation plan enforced by CPS. It's sad because no one wants to cause further trauma to a family, but allowing the experts to know what is going on so they can assess is important. This is a child's life we are talking about, who may not have any option besides living like this. In my father's case, he once had a 13 yo girl, who was pregnant, who was living in a chicken coop covered in flies as the house had burned down. This was in rural Appalachia. Fortunately, he was able to get her removed from the "home." People don't realize how some people are still living like in some parts of our country.

We could only do so much. Although this video is shorter it represents many hours, I think we were cleaning this room for at least 5 hours with both of us. We discussed with the homeowner what tasks needed to be done. We had arranged for a company to donate duct cleaning but she said she could take it from there.
We were a little sad not to go back but I don’t know if you can appreciate (or anyone) how hard it was and emotional it was for her to let us in. There’s so much shame and so many dynamics that are hard. Even reading the comments (and they do) can be hard. We’re so proud of how much they did after we left and while we were there.

Get an exterminator! Rodent removal is as important as the cleaning. It will just get rodent contaminated again over and over.
You wash things with soap and water then use wipes
When I start cleaning I get really short of breath and light headed and I end up giving up and only clean 30%. I don’t know why this happens maybe it’s feeling anxious and overwhelmed by all the clutter and no where to put things away

We didn't look. But the whole house needed a lot. The homeowner said she's going to continue. Which is a huge triumph if she can. We're proud of her - few people understand the shame and overwhelm that's often part of how things get to this point.

I'm confused about the mice. There didn't appear to be food and the house did not appear to be old. Floor boards even looked shiny after you wiped them off, so where were the mice getting in?
